European Conference on Nanoelectronics and Embedded Systems for Electric Mobility ecocity emotion th September 2014, Erlangen, Germany EV recharging ecosystem and services for a sustainable e_mobility Luciano Bononi and Alfredo D Elia, University of Bologna, Italy joint work with: UNIBO team : L. Bedogni, M. Di Felice, A. D Elia, S. Rondelli, M. DeNicola, T. Salmon Cinotti AICIA team: A. Rodriguez Serrano, Enrique Rodriguz ENEL team: S. Basili, P. Ducolin, G. Borgone CRF team: S. Cerchio, E. Mottola, L. Andreone
Presentation Outline Context IoE service providers platform results exploitation (Charging Station Post Ecosystem Demonstrator in Demo II - Cohort 2) in an EIT ICT Labs activity (14053) Summary: Motivation and aim of this research Reservation and route planning services as a counter-measure to fight EV driver s anxiety and overcome EV range limits Mobile APP (Android) integrated with EV, Google Maps (nav. & altim.) Semantic platform for the integration of services and devices based on SMART-M3 v0.9 (results exploitation of SOFIA ARTEMIS project) Achieved results and future work
Motivation and aim of this research What: communication and information integration platform for recharging reservation anywhere and any time via mobile services. interoperability and integration concept: devices (vehicle, charging stations), mobile devices, service provider operator, other platforms and services Where: exploitation of IoE results (service provider of Charging Station Post Ecosystem Demonstrator - Cohort 2 of Demo II) within EIT ICT Labs activity Task A1402 Impact assessment of EV charging solutions) Why: emobility is a driver of sustainable development and it requires appropriate infrastructures, services and also countermeasures to fight drivers range anxiety and range limitations (favouring awareness and acceptance) Who:
Motivations for recharging-related services Infrastructure viewpoint: maximum recharging efficiency minimum impact on the grid User viewpoint: guaranteed and effective recharging support both in urban and extra-urban paths everywhere Policy-Makers viewpoint: need for reduced traffic density, and easy parking reduction of pollution energy efficiency attractiveness and valorisation of regional resources
Infrastructure Communication and information integration platform for recharging reservation anywhere and any time via mobile services integration based on ARTEMIS-developed semantic interoperability platform SMART-M3 Platform characteristics: Interoperability and integration (open platform) field devices (vehicle, charging stations), mobile devices, service provider operator and services Simulation framework (* see presentation 1 in this session) physically located (running) in Bologna integrated with sister in Seville for trans-national services demo
Recharging ecosystem territory An Integrated Spain-Italy-Germany recharging ecosystem demonstrator
USE CASES Deciphering the recharging ecosystem From his/her mobile phone or from the EV dash-board integrated tablet, the user can browse the location of any Charging Point in the system, can be driven to the CP through a third party navigation service and, if altimetry data are available can get the energy and altimetry profile from his location to the selected CP Make a reservation From his/her mobile phone, charging options can be filtered and ordered depending on time, distance and price, then user can reserve any EVSE belonging to the recharging ecosystem. Monitor the recharging progress From a web interface, reservations history, status and statistics of any CP can be consulted by the service provider: available, reserved, EV is charging (before, during and after the reservation period). Share vehicle date with other stakeholders Periodically, EV data are automatically collected and stored in the IoE Interoperability Platform. User can monitor collected data from a web interface.
Actors cooperating in the ecosystem SP Back-end The service platform enables services and apps to interact with field devices: EVs and EVSEs Integration with field devices enables: Vehicle Data Collection User and reservation verification at the EVSE via mobile/on board devices EVSE-related services integration External services integration
Experimental platform Set-Up On Board On the street/home (EVSE) Blue & Me EV Dash- Board HSDPA+ SP Back-end In Bologna Internet 3G 3G Modem BT Smart Card IPv4/6 EVSE On Person (user) Smart Phone 3/4G NFC Control unit with NFC reader Service Provider Workstation On Service Provider
Experimental platform integration (other platforms) IoE Interoperability Platform Energy Management & Service Platform Same node
Platform flexibility concept
Which recharging-related Services? which services do we mean here? EVSE reservation services (a few exist) Optimized scheduling of EVSE use (very few exist) Route planning (many exist) Recharging management and monitoring State of the art: reservation and scheduling are based on user s opportunistic approach for exploiting available charging spots in the proximity or within time constraints in a selected area Improvement: route planner solves both reservation and scheduling under optimization constraints and alleviate anxiety problems for longer trips (where multiple recharge opportunities must be identified).
Mobile APP Android App integrated with Google services (maps, navigation, altimetry) ensures user authentication and reservation validation at EVSE Running on standalone smartphones, or integrated in the Fiat Daily dash-board (IoE Demo II) vehicle-parameters aware, gets vehicle info from the vehicle activated from EV dash-board
Mobile APP potential and impact Results appear in [3] NGMAST'14-8th International Conference on Next Generation Mobile Applications, Services, and Technologies 2014, September 2014, Oxford (UK)
Route planner potential and impact Preview of UNIBO advanced Multi-trip/Journey scheduler and manager of recharging options under multiple optimization requirements (web version, app under development): Results to appear in [2]
Success Percentage with Route Planner Results to appear in [2] 3rd International Conference on Connected Vehicles & Expo (IEEE ICCVE 2014), 3-7 November 2014, Wien, Austria Scenario: Emilia-Romagna region (approximatively 400km x 200km) All EnelDrive charging spots are considered Success percentage is a function of distance and energy consumed
EVSE Monitoring (for provider, proof of concept)) A snapshot of the Erlangen IoE final Demo reservations made on the project EVSEs all around Europe
Conclusions and Future Work Conclusions: Development of charging reservation services based on interaction between EV, EVSEs and Internet, enabled by a semantic platform Development of a mobile application(s) to assist EV driver's with charging services Proof of concept and Demo of an Integrated Spain-Italy-Germany recharging ecosystem Future work: Usability analysis and HMI design + further service integration Approach application to additional domains (e.g. bikes) Power adaptation and load forecast policies based on reservation patterns
