If building the stock kit with the pusher prop, fit the motor to the ring shaped motor mount as shown. Install the motor mount in the fuselage at the rear of the duct.

The picture shows the rear of the prop which should face the rear of the airplane (away from the motor). When the motor is powered up, the airflow should blow towards the rear of the airplane.

The actual kit does not have these tabs. Instead, cut pockets for the carbon fiber spars to protrude into the fuselage for extra strength.

Use plenty of glue on the wing-tofuselage joints and on the carbon fiber spar where it protrudes into the fuselage.

The kit actually contains a brushless motor, and you should not solder capacitors to the brushless motor leads Step 2 the instructions show a ducted fan installation. If building the stock kit with the pusher prop, fit the motor to the ring shaped motor mount as shown. Install the motor mount in the fuselage at the rear of the duct. Orient the mount so that the motor is offset toward the top of the fuselage. In this picture, the airplane is upside down. Make sure the prop is mounted with the correct orientation. The picture shows the rear of the prop which should face the rear of the airplane (away from the motor). When the motor is powered up, the airflow should blow towards the rear of the airplane. If it doesn t (and the prop is on correctly), reverse your motor connections. Align Here Step 5 - The instructions show the wings with two tabs that fit into slots in the fuselage. The actual kit does not have these tabs. Instead, cut pockets for the carbon fiber spars to protrude into the fuselage for extra strength. Align the wing to the fuselage using the servo wire slots cut into the wing and the fuselage. Use plenty of glue on the wing-tofuselage joints and on the carbon fiber spar where it protrudes into the fuselage. Step 8 The instructions show tabs on the horizontal stabilizers that fit into slots in the fuselage. The actual kit does not have these tabs. Instead, use the shorter pieces of carbon fiber rod included in the kit as spars. Cut a slot in the bottom of the stabilizers and fuselage strakes for the carbon rod and make sure they protrude into the fuselage. Align the rear of the horizontal stabilizers to the back edge of the fuselage strakes. Center the stabilizers vertically on the strakes. Use plenty of glue on this joint. We recommend balancing the F-16 at 6 inches back from the leading edge at the wing root. After your first few flights, you may wish to move the CG back slightly for better maneuverability. Suggested Modifications for Walkera SU-27M/SU-35 and F-16 Jet Kits Here are all the kit parts for the SU-27M/SU-35. The kit includes a foam safe contact cement.

The pictures will show the SU-27M/SU-35, but the F-16 has a similar set of parts. The first modification is to reinforce the wing roots.

Locate the spot on the fuselage where the carbon wing stiffener slot meets the fuselage and mark the fuselage at this spot.

Drill a hole for the carbon spar through the fuselage to the intake duct. Test fit the carbon rod. Make sure the rod is flush with the inside of the duct.

14 Suggested Modifications for Walkera SU-27M/SU-35 and F-16 Jet Kits Here are all the kit parts for the SU-27M/SU-35. The kit includes a foam safe contact cement. You may also use low temperature hot glue, epoxy, or foam safe cyanoacrylate glues. We recommend using epoxy for high-strength joints. The pictures will show the SU-27M/SU-35, but the F-16 has a similar set of parts. The first modification is to reinforce the wing roots. Dry fit the main wings to the fuselage. Locate the spot on the fuselage where the carbon wing stiffener slot meets the fuselage and mark the fuselage at this spot. Note the SU-27M/SU- 35 has the stiffener slots on the trailing edge of the wing, and the F-16 has them on the leading edge. Drill a hole for the carbon spar through the fuselage to the intake duct. Test fit the carbon rod. Make sure the rod is flush with the inside of the duct. Do this for both wing halves. Mark the end of the carbon rod out at the wing tip. This will be a reference mark when gluing the carbon rod in place. Again, do this for both wing halves. Separate the wing halves from the fuselage, make sure the carbon rods are aligned with the outer reference mark, and glue the carbon rods in place on both wing halves. Make sure to apply some glue to the end of the carbon rod where it protrudes into the fuselage. The next modification is to add elevator control. Cut 2 inches back from the trailing edge to create elevators for the jet. Bevel the bottom of the leading edge of the elevators so they can flex down to a 45 degree angle when hinged. We recommend upgrading to the MTM 400F brushless motor for better performance.

If using the MTM 400F brushless motor in the fan unit, trim away the plastic in the motor mount to match the picture.

Mount the fan unit(s) in the ducts. If using brushless motors, you will need two ESCs.

Note that it is better to keep the brushless ESCs close to the motor and have longer battery leads.

16 These are the ducted fan parts (included with the SU-27M/SU-35, optional with the F-16). The SU- 27M/SU-35 includes two brushed 380 motors. We recommend upgrading to the MTM 400F brushless motor for better performance. The F- 16 includes a 380 brushless motor which can be used with the stock pusher prop, or with the optional fan unit. If using the MTM 400F brushless motor in the fan unit, trim away the plastic in the motor mount to match the picture. For the F-16, you can use the stock 380 brushless motor without modifying the duct. Assemble the fan unit(s). Mount the fan unit(s) in the ducts. If using brushless motors, you will need two ESCs. Mount each ESC in the duct ahead of the fan unit and run your wires up to the cockpit location. Note that it is better to keep the brushless ESCs close to the motor and have longer battery leads. If using a separate switching BEC (strongly recommended) make sure to clip the red wires on the ESC servo connectors to disable the built-in BECs. Install the elevator servos as shown. Use servo extensions and route the wires to the cockpit area. Install the aileron servos as shown. Use servo extensions and route the wires to the cockpit area. Copyright 2005, Balsa Product LLC. Install the duct cover(s). Use 2-inch wide clear packing table hinges for the elevator.

Install aileron control horns and linkage using the control horns and pushrods included with the kit.

Please note that the elevator servos will require the use of a Y connector with a built-in servo reverser for proper movement of the elevators.

If you have a computer radio and a 5/6 channel receiver, you can configure flaperons and aileron differential.

17 Install the duct cover(s). Use 2-inch wide clear packing table hinges for the elevator. Install elevator control horns and linkage (not included with the stock kits). Install aileron control horns and linkage using the control horns and pushrods included with the kit. Install the rest of the your radio gear as required. Please note that the elevator servos will require the use of a Y connector with a built-in servo reverser for proper movement of the elevators. The aileron servos can be attached with a regular Y cable, or use a 5/6 channel receiver with two aileron channels. If you have a computer radio and a 5/6 channel receiver, you can configure flaperons and aileron differential. We strongly recommend using a separate switching BEC (such as the ParkBEC). Running 4 servos on a 3-cell Li-Poly pack is pushing the limits of most speed control BECs (regardless of what the manufacturers say). We recommend balancing the SU-27M/SU-35 at 4 inches back and the F-16 at 6 inches back from the leading edge at the wing root.
