1 Project: Mannapitlu Mini Hydel Scheme - 15 MW Overview: Mannapitlu Mini Hydel Scheme is the first of the 4 cascading Mini Hydro Electric Projects planned on Gurupur river in Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka. The scheme site is located about 11 kms from Mudabidre and 46 kms from Mangalore, which has an Airport. Gurpur River drains a Catchment area of Sq.kms upto the diversion site and has an annual water yield of 2120 Million m3. The Scheme contemplates Construction of: 1) A diversion weir across Gurupur river, near village Arambadi, with FRL at EL 53.50m and consisting of 212.8m length of gated overflow section and 59.15m of Non-over flow section; alongwith 24 Nos. radial crest gates of size 7m x 3.9m and a gated scouring sluice of size 1m x 1.5m. 2) Intake structure on the left bank of the diversion weir and consisting of 3 power sluices of size 4.5m x 4m, for passing the design discharge of 165m3/sec. 3) The water conductor system consisting of RCC, partly cut and cover, conduit of size 10.5m x 7m and m long to lead the water to the forebay. 4) A fully concrete lined forebay of size 22m x 20m x 10m and with FRL at EL 53.50, with the penstock intake with 3 vents of 3.5m x 3.5m size, with vertical lift control gates and stop log gates. 5) 3 Nos. steel penstocks 3.5m diameter and 30m long each. 6) Surface power house 31.8m x 28.15m with 3 unit bays and a service bay. 7) Tail race channel m long with a bed width 15m, with CC lining and maximum tail race level of EL 39m. 8) Installation of 3 horizontal Kaplan turbine units with synchronous generator of 5 MW capacity each, at a generation voltage of 11kV. 9) Outdoor yard 50.5m x 45m with 3 Nos. step up transformers 11kV/110kV and 7500 kva capacity. 10) 19 kms of 110kV transmission lines upto Mudabidri Substation. The total power generating installation is 15MW and generates an annual energy of 45 Gwhrs. The generated power is transmitted through 19km of 110kV transmission lines to Mudabidri substation of MESCOM. The scheme is being developed by M/s Bobba Power Projects, Bangalore and is in advanced stage of construction and will be commissioned shortly.
