Please read and follow all instructions in this owner s manual before attempting to operate your power chair for the first time. If there is anything in this manual you do not understand, or if you require additional assistance for setup, contact your Magic Mobility Representative before operating the wheelchair. Using your Magic Mobility product safely also depends upon your own good judgement and/or common sense, as well as that of your provider, caregiver, and/or health professional. Magic Mobility is not responsible for injuries and/or damage resulting from any person s failure to follow the warnings, cautions and instructions in this owner s manual. The contents of this manual are based on the expectation that a qualified healthcare professional has properly fitted the power chair to the user and the prescribing healthcare professional has trained the user in the operation of the wheelchair, the dangers that can be encountered and assured themselves that the user is capable of this. There are certain situations, including some medical conditions, where the power chair user will need to practice operating the power chair in the presence of a trained attendant. A trained attendant can be defined as a family member or care professional specially trained in assisting a power chair user in various daily living activities. WARNINGS & CAUTIONS! Modifications: Do not modify, or have your power chair modified in any way not authorised by Magic Mobility. Unauthorised modifications may result in personal injury and/or damage to your power chair. Any modifications will also void any and all warranty. Weight Limitations: Your power chair is rated for a maximum weight capacity. Please refer to the specifications for this limit. Exceeding the weight capacity voids your warranty and may result in personal injury and/or damage to your power chair. Magic Mobility will not be held responsible for injuries and/or property damage resulting from failure to observe weight limitations. Tyre Inflation: It is important that 3.5psi tyre pressure be maintained in pneumatic tyres at all times. Do not under inflate or over inflate your tyres. Low pressure may result in loss of control, and over inflated tyres may burst. Failure to maintain 3.5 psi tyre pressure in pneumatic tyres at all times may result in tyre and/or wheel failure, causing serious personal injury and/or damage to your power chair. Inflate your power chair drive tyres from a regulated air source with an available pressure gauge. Inflating your tyres from an unregulated air source could over inflate them, resulting in a burst tyre and/or personal injury. Climbing an Incline: When climbing an incline, try to keep your power chair moving, however do not use excessive speed. If you must stop, start up again slowly and then accelerate cautiously. When driving down an incline, set your power chair to the slowest speed setting and drive in the forward direction only. If your power chair starts to move down the incline faster than you anticipated or desired, allow it to come to a complete stop by releasing the joystick, then push the joystick forward slightly to ensure a safely controlled descent.

When climbing an incline, do not zigzag or drive at an angle up the face of the incline. Drive your power chair straight up the incline. This greatly reduces the possibility of a tip or fall. Always exercise extreme caution when negotiating an incline. You should not travel up or down a potentially hazardous incline (i.e.; areas covered with snow, ice, mud, cut grass, or wet leaves). When on any sort of an incline or decline, never place the power chair in freewheel mode while seated on it or standing next to it. Doing so may result in personal injury and/or damage to your power chair. Never travel down an incline rearwards. This may result in personal injury. Even though your power chair is capable of climbing great slopes, under no circumstances, exceed the incline guidelines or any other specifications presented in this manual. Doing so could cause instability in your power chair, resulting in personal injury and/or damage to your power chair. Most handicap public access ramps are required to have a maximum gradient 1 in 14. Therefore, Magic Mobility recommends that the maximum slope of an incline you attempt to safely ascend or descend on your power chair does not exceed 1 in 14 gradient. Any attempt to climb or descend a slope steeper than 1 in 14 gradient may put your power chair in an unstable position and cause it to tip, resulting in personal injury. Cornering Information: (For users of the Extreme Power Wheelchair) While you power chair is equipped with castor wheels in front and back, excessively high cornering speeds can still create the possibility of tipping. Factors which affect the possibility of tipping include, but are not limited to: cornering speed, steering angle (how sharply you are turning), uneven road surfaces, inclined road surfaces, riding from an area of high traction (such as passing from a grassy area to a paved area especially at high speed while turning), and abrupt directional changes. High cornering speeds are not recommended. If you feel that you may tip over in a corner, reduce your speed and steering angle (i.e., lessen the sharpness of the turn) to prevent your power chair from tipping. When cornering sharply, reduce your speed. This greatly reduces the possibility of a tip or fall. To avoid personal injury and/or property damage, always exercise commonsense when cornering. Freewheel Mode: Do not use your chair in freewheel mode without an attendant present. Personal injury may result. Do not attempt to personally place your power chair in freewheel mode while seated on it. Personal injury may result. Ask an attendant for assistance if necessary. Do not place your power chair in freewheel mode while on an incline. The chair could roll uncontrollably on it s own, causing personal injury. Stationary Obstacles: (Steps, Kerbs, Etc.) Proceed with extreme caution when driving near raised surfaces, unprotected ledges, and/or drop-offs (kerbs, porches, stairs, escalators, lifts etc). Do not attempt to have your power chair climb or descend an obstacle that is higher than 5cm unless you have the assistance of an attendant.

Do not attempt to have your power chair proceed rearward down any step, kerb, or other obstacle. This may cause the power chair to tip and cause personal injury. Public Streets and Roadways: You should not operate your power chair on public streets and roadways. Be aware that it may be difficult for traffic to see you when you are seated on your power chair. Obey all local pedestrian traffic rules. Wait until your path is clear of traffic, and then proceed with extreme caution. Stairs and Escalators: Never use your power chair to negotiate steps or escalators. You may cause injury to yourself and to others and/or damage your power chair. Electromagnetic Fields: Your power chair s performance may be influenced by electromagnetic fields caused by cellular telephones or other radiating devices, such as hand-held radios, radio and television stations, wireless computer links, microwave sources, and pagers. You should turn off your power chair when using products, which emit electromagnetic fields. This will eliminate the possibility of unintended movement caused by electromagnetic sources. Failure to take this precaution may result in personal injury. Your power chair may also be a source of electromagnetic and radio frequency interference. Be aware that your power chair may affect the performance of alarm systems and other radiating devices. Motor Vehicle Transport: Magic Mobility is aware that there are a large number of wheelchair vehicle restraint systems available and in use around the world. Magic Mobility cannot, and does not, at this time, recommend any particular wheelchair transportation systems. Magic Mobility recommends that wheelchair users NOT be transported in vehicles of any kind while in wheelchairs. As of this date, the Department of Transportation has not approved any tie-down systems with specific wheelchairs for transportation of a user while in a wheelchair, in a moving vehicle of any type. It is Magic Mobility s position that users of wheelchairs should be transferred into appropriate seating in vehicles for transportation and use be made of the restraints made available by the auto industry. AS REGARDS TO RESTRAINTS SEAT POSITIONING STRAPS IT IS THE OBLIGATION OF THE PURCHASERS, THERAPISTS AND OTHER HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS TO DETERMINE IF A SEAT POSITIONING STRAP IS REQUIRED TO ENSURE THE SAFE OPERATION OF THIS EQUIPMENT BY THE USER. SERIOUS INJURY CAN OCCUR IN THE EVENT OF A FALL FROM A WHEELCHAIR. Transfers: Before transferring, position yourself as far back as possible in the power chair seat to prevent the power chair from tipping forward during transfer and causing injury. Avoid using your armrests for weight bearing purposes. Such use may cause the power chair to tip and cause personal injury.

Avoid putting all of your weight on the foot rigging. Such use may cause the power chair to tip and cause injury and may damage the leg supports. Positioning Belts: If you require a positioning belt to safely operate your power chair, make sure it is fastened securely. Serious personal injury may result if you fall from the power chair. The positioning belt is not designed for use as a seatbelt in a motor vehicle. Nor is your power chair suitable for use as a seat in any vehicle. Anyone travelling in a vehicle should be properly belted into seats approved by the vehicle manufacturer. Do not sit on your power chair while it is in a moving vehicle. Personal injury and/or property damage may result. Always be sure your power chair and its components are properly secured when it is being transported. Failure to do so may result in personal injury and/or damage to your power chair. Weather Precautions: Magic Mobility recommends that you do not operate your power chair in icy or slippery conditions or on salted surfaces (i.e.; footpaths and roads). Such use may adversely affect the performance and safety of your power chair, resulting in an accident and personal injury. Do not expose your power chair to any type of moisture at any time (rain, snow, mist, salt water, or wash). Such exposure can damage your power chair. Never operate your power chair if it has been exposed to moisture until it has dried out thoroughly and been fully serviced and assessed by a trained wheelchair repairer for correct operation. Reaching and Bending: Do not bend, lean, or reach for objects, if you have to pick them up from the floor we suggest you use a specially designed Pick Up Stick. Movements such as these may change your centre of gravity and the weight distribution of the power chair. This may cause your power chair to tip, possibly resulting in personal injury. Keep your hands away from the tyres, wheels and castors when driving. Batteries: Your Power Chair batteries are not user serviceable. Contact an experienced wheelchair service company for service or replacement. Battery posts, terminals, and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds. Always protect the batteries from freezing and never charge a frozen battery. Charging a frozen battery may result in personal injury and/or damage to the battery. Battery Disposal and Recycling: If you encounter a damaged or cracked battery, immediately enclose it in a plastic bag and contact your Magic Mobility Specialist for instructions on disposal. Your Magic Mobility Specialist will also have all the necessary information on battery recycling, which is our recommended course of action. Preventing Unintended Movement: If you anticipate being seated in a stationary position for an extended period of time, turn off the power. This will prevent unexpected motion from inadvertent joystick contact. This will also eliminate the possibility of unintended chair movement from electromagnetic (EM) sources. Failure to do so may result in personal injury.

Prescription Drugs/Physical Limitations: Consult your physician if you are taking prescribed or over-the-counter medication or if you have certain physical limitations. Some medications and limitations may impair your ability to operate your power chair in a safe manner. Alcohol: Do not operate your power chair while you are under the influence of alcohol, as this may impair your ability to operate your power chair in a safe manner. Removable Parts: Do not attempt to lift or move a power chair by any of its removable parts. Personal injury and/or damage to the power chair may result. CAUTION notices as used in this manual apply to hazards or unsafe practices, which could result in personal injury or property damage. Operating Instructions Performance adjustments should only be made by professionals of the healthcare field, or persons fully conversant with this process and the driver s capabilities. Incorrect settings could cause injury to the driver, bystanders, damage to the chair and to surrounding property. After the wheelchair has been set up, check to make sure that the wheelchair performs to the specifications entered during the set-up procedure. If the wheelchair does NOT perform to specifications, turn the wheelchair OFF immediately and reenter set-up specifications. Repeat this procedure until the wheelchair performs to specifications. DO NOT operate on roads, streets or highways. DO NOT climb, go up or down ramps or traverse slopes greater than 1 in 14 gradient. DO NOT attempt to move up or down an incline with a water, mud, ice or oil film. DO NOT attempt to drive over kerbs or obstacles greater than 50mm in height. Doing so may cause your wheelchair to turn over and cause bodily harm or damage to the chair. ALWAYS stop before climbing an obstacle. Approach slowly until castors contact the obstacle. Apply power and the action of the chair will lift the castors over the obstacle. Weight is transferred to the drive wheels providing traction and motor strength to power the chair over the obstacle. DO NOT use parts, accessories, or adapters other than those authorized by Magic Mobility. DO NOT leave the power button ON when entering or exiting your wheelchair. DO NOT stand on the frame of the wheelchair. DO NOT use the footplates as a platform. When getting in or out of the wheelchair, make sure that the footplates are in the upward position or swing footrests towards the outside of the chair. ALWAYS wear your seat positioning strap (if fitted) DO NOT use your wheelchair unless it has the proper tire pressure (P.S.I.). DO NOT over inflate the tires. Failure to follow these recommendations may cause the tire to explode and cause bodily harm. The recommended tire pressure is listed on the sidewall of the tire. DO NOT leave power wheelchair in rain or a storm of any kind. DO NOT use power wheelchair in a shower or leave it in a damp bathroom whilst taking a shower. DO NOT leave power wheelchair in a damp area or outdoors for any length of time. Direct exposure to rain or dampness will cause the chair to malfunction electrically and mechanically; may cause the chair to prematurely rust.

Check to ensure that the battery covers are secured in place. ENSURE joystick boot is NOT torn or cracked where water can enter and that all electrical connections are secure at all times. DO NOT use the joystick if the boot is torn or cracked. If the joystick boot becomes torn or cracked, ensure it is replaced IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT carry passengers or heavy weights on any part of the wheelchair. MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER: The main circuit breaker is a safety feature built into your power chair. When the batteries and the motors are heavily strained (e.g., from excessive loads), the main circuit breaker trips to prevent damage to the motors and the electronics. If the circuit trips, allow your power chair to rest for approximately one minute. Turn on the controller, and continue normal operation. If the main circuit breaker continues to trip repeatedly, contact your Magic Mobility Specialist. MANUAL FREEWHEEL LEVERS: Do not use your power chair while the drive motors are disengaged unless you are in the presence of an attendant. Do not disengage the drive motors when your power chair is on an incline. The chair could roll down on its own, causing injury. COMFORT ADJUSTMENTS: If your power chair was configured at your Magic Mobility Specialist, please consult your health care professional before changing the seat position or making any other adjustment. Some adjustments may degrade your power chair s performance and safety by changing its centre of gravity. CONTROLLER POSITION: Do not place the controller cable so that it can be pinched in the seat frame or the power base frame. ANTI-TIP WHEELS: The anti-tip wheels, if fitted, may cause trouble when ascending or descending a kerb if they are not adjusted correctly. Contact your Magic Mobility Specialist for more information. NEVER! Remove the anti-tip wheels. TILT IN SPACE SEAT OPTION: - If fitted, the Tilt In Space seat option is intended for use on a flat, level surface only. Never raise the seat from its lowest position on an inclined surface. Failure to heed this warning can result in the power chair tipping over and causing injury. - Never raise the seat from its lowest position when operating your power chair on bumpy or uneven surfaces. Failure to heed this warning can result in the power chair tipping over and causing injury. - Never raise the Tilt In Space seat while your power chair is in freewheel mode. Always fasten the positioning belt when operating the Tilt In Space seat. To operate the Tilt In Space Seat: 1. Bring your power chair to a complete stop. 2. Once the seat reaches its highest extension, the lift action stops; you should continue to hear and/or feel the lift motor running. This is because there is a clutch mechanism that allows the motor to continue running after the lift has reached its limit. The clutch works at both the top and bottom extensions of the lift. Do not allow the motor to run more than a few seconds after the mechanism reaches the top or bottom limit. 3. Return the seat to its lowest position. When returning to the lowest position, always be sure that the mechanism has reached its lowest limit.

Operating Joystick Controls JOYSTICK CONTROLS The joystick controls, as with other items on the chair may be customised and may be one of a number of different models depending upon users requirements. Detailed information on the standard joystick control is contained within this manual on a separate page. The joystick hand control unit IS NOT WATERPROOF so care must be exercised so as not to get caught outdoors in the rain. We recommend the carrying of a small plastic bag large enough to cover the joystick module and the user s hand, in case of rain. The joystick module is splash proof but may be permanently damaged if water transgresses the rubber seals (this damage is not covered under warranty). If for any reason, the joystick lead is disconnected take care when reconnecting, do not force the plug into the socket. The lead is polarised and should only be fitted one way. Forcing the plug into the socket the wrong way can permanently damage the electronics system. WARNINGS: The controller program can affect speed, acceleration, deceleration, and braking, but if programmed incorrectly or outside of the safe limits as determined by your healthcare professional, it can create a dangerous situation. Only the power chair manufacturer, an authorised representative of the manufacturer, or a trained service technician should program the controller. If the power chair begins to move in an unexpected manner, immediately release the joystick and turn the wheelchair off. Unless the joystick is damaged, this should stop your power chair. Always turn the power off when you are stationary to prevent unexpected movement. If the joystick is not in the neutral (centre) position when you turn on the power, you may cause a fault in the system. Releasing the joystick and turning the power off and on again will reset the system. The drive mode settings are preset at the factory. If your Magic Mobility Specialist changes these settings, please make note of these changes.

To Unlock the system: Press the On/Off button to power up the system. The flashing red key symbol shows the system is locked. Swipe the magnetic key across the key symbol the LED will stop flashing the chair may be driven as normal. If the wheelchair is not unlocked, G90 will automatically turn itself off. The Joystick

Moving the joystick will cause the power chair to drive in that direction. The amount of joystick movement will determine the speed that the power chair will move in that direction. Joystick Out of Neutral at Power up (OONAPU) occurs if the joystick is out of neutral when switched on. If this happens the System Status LED will flash constantly. Releasing the joystick within a few seconds will cancel the indication otherwise a latching fault will occur. Charging Plug the battery charger into the charging socket located at the front of the G90 Remote. Driving is inhibited while the system is being charged as denoted by - displayed on the 7 segment display. However, it is possible to use accessory functions e.g. actuators. Once the Battery Charger displays a full battery charge, the battery charger plug may be removed. Batteries and Battery Charger Batteries & Charging

We recommend using only a high quality dual rate intelligent battery charger with your Power Chair. All Magic Mobility Power chairs are supplied with high quality sealed, no maintenance, gell cell batteries as standard. The following are the minimum sizes and brands of batteries and charger that we recommend. Batteries: 73 A/Hr MK Batteries (Gell Tech) Charger: 24Volt 8Amp (These products may not be available in all countries-contact your dealer for an equivalent) Warnings Automotive batteries are not designed to handle a long, deep discharge, and are also unsafe for use in power chairs. Do not allow automotive batteries to be fitted. Battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds. Wash hands after handling. You must recharge the batteries with the supplied off-board charger. Do not use any other charger unless approved by Magic Mobility. Do not use an automotive-type battery charger. The charger will not operate after the batteries have been discharged to extremely low voltage. If this happens, call your Magic Mobility Specialist for assistance. Keep your batteries fully charged and avoid deeply discharging your batteries. Do not charge the batteries for more than 24 hours at a charging cycle if possible. Corrosive chemicals contained in the batteries. Use only AGM or gel-cell batteries to reduce the risk of leakage or explosive conditions. Charger Operation Battery Charging is via a socket within the joystick module. When a charger is plugged in, the joystick unit recognises the unit is plugged in and chair driving is inhibited. * The following procedure is valid for the recommended charger brand - consult your separate charger instructions if supplied with an alternative charger. 1) Ensure the wheelchair is turned off. 2) Always make sure that the charger is turned OFF before plugging it into the wheelchair. 3) Plug the charger into the wheelchair charging socket. 4) The empty battery connected light on the charger will come on. If this light does not illuminate check all connections. (240V - 110V - 115V) 5) Turn the charger on at the mains power point. The bottom POWER indicator on the charger will come on. 6) The 100% Battery Full light on the charger will come on when the chair is fully charged. It is OK to leave the charger connected to the chair, it will not overcharge. 7) The wheelchair will require charging for 8 to 12 hours for a full charge. 8) Batteries MUST BE charged overnight EVERY NIGHT. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

Do not put the charger on the seat of the wheelchair when charging as the charger can become quite warm. Always put the charger on the floor near the chair or on the wheelchair footplates when in use. DO NOT PLACE THE BATTERY CHARGER ON THE WHEELCHAIR SEAT. Copyright Magic Mobility 2002 Maintenance Care & Maintenance

It is important to regularly (every month) have such items as tyres, castors, wheels and control systems inspected for wear or damage. These inspections can be carried out by anybody familiar with the wheelchair but we recommend that every 6 months the chair should be inspected by a factory authorised service facility. Repairs or replacements should only be carried out with manufacturer approved components to assure proper performance. Batteries The batteries used in your Power Chair are all sealed, no maintenance gell cells and require only correct charging procedures - see Battery Charger section. Typically these batteries would last 1 to 2 years depending upon type of usage. If an inspection determines excessive wear on the brushes in the batteries, they must be replaced or motor damage will result. Failure to maintain the brushes could void your power chair s warranty. Tyres We recommend that the tyre pressures be checked weekly as running under inflated tyres may be dangerous and can leave the tyres prone to punctures. Failure to use the correct inflation pressure can result in reduced performance or cause an unsafe situation to occur. MAIN MID DRIVE TYRES Black Low Pressure Knobby tyres - these should be inflated to 3.5 to 4 psi (24 to 28 kilopascals) for general use. (Do not exceed 10psi / 68 kilopascals). Castor Tyres should be inflated to no more than 35psi. TYRE INFLATION - All pneumatic tyres are fitted with automotive type valves and can be inflated using most typical automotive hand and foot type pumps as well as service station air outlets. All tyres should be checked weekly for correct inflation to the specifications given above. TYRE WEAR - Tyre wear varies greatly depending on usage (from months to years), but no matter what sort of time your tyres last this is mostly governed by your typical daily requirements. To achieve the most from your tyres it is important to have them correctly inflated. Always use manufacturer recommended parts. Replace tyres when the tread pattern wears to less than 2mm in depth as tyres will start to lose safe traction and can be more prone to puncture. Castors There are two sizes of castors used on our range of wheelchairs. 200mm MCP solid castors. 250mm Pneumatic Castors (AT Model) Inflation 35 psi Both of these castor types can require regular maintenance to ensure correct performance otherwise damage can occur and place the user in a potentially dangerous situation. The castors should be checked (weekly is recommended) for correct swivel tension. Failure to have the castors adjusted to the correct tension can cause excessive castor flutter.

Upholstery The upholstery and frame of the wheelchair may be cleaned using mild soap and water. Avoid getting water into any electric components. Upholstery life may be affected by skin oils and human sweat particularly that caused by particular medications. It is recommended that should cracking or significant wearing of the upholstery occur, it should be replaced at more regular intervals. Cleaning Never hose off your power chair or place it in direct contact with water. Your power chair has a powder coated metal frame that allows it to be easily wiped clean with a damp cloth. Never use any chemicals to clean a vinyl seat, as they may cause the seat to become slippery, or dry out and crack. Use soapy water and dry seat thoroughly. Storage Store your Magic Mobility Wheelchair, preferably indoors only, out of the elements. Copyright Magic Mobility 2002 FAULT FINDING Fault Finding

THE CHAIR WILL NOT DRIVE Should the chair fail to drive check the following items: * Is the Battery Fuel Gauge in the RED section (batteries flat) or FLASHING? * Has the control lead to the joystick control module been damaged or dislodged from either end? * All Power wheelchairs are fitted with a DX Series control system that disables driving should the built-in self test discover a fault in any of the driving components (motors, electronics, brakes). Each of the DX electronics modules is fitted with a STATUS indicator in the form of a small green LED, on the Joystick Hand Control this STATUS indicator is located in the centre of the On/Off Button. Should any of the modules be faulty the LED on the faulty module will flash. If this happens call your local Magic Mobility agent. JOYSTICK OUT OF NEUTRAL AT POWER UP The Joystick Module features an Out Of Neutral At Power Up " detection. If the system is turned on with the joystick not in the neutral position (deflected) the Power Indicator will flash and the chair will be prevented from driving until the joystick is returned to neutral. THE BATTERIES WILL NOT CHARGE Should the batteries not charge check the following items: * Is the Battery Connected Indicator on the battery charger illuminated? If not check all plugs, sockets, leads and battery connections. * Is the Mains Power Indicator illuminated? Check mains power point. * Should the Charge Complete Indicator not be illuminated after a normal charging period, or no more than 12 hours the most likely cause is worn out or faulty batteries. * On a full charge the batteries will generally provide a good 6 to 8 hours of typical daily use. As the batteries wear out this time will be reduced. When the chair is being used in high load applications such as hill climbing or with a heavy occupant then the battery range will also be reduced. MANUAL FREEWHEELING - PUSHING THE CHAIR The built-in brakes and electric drive may be easily disengaged for manually pushing the chair as follows: Located on each of the motors is a free-wheeling paddle. To disengage the built-in brakes simply flip each of the levers to the other side. The rear motor free-wheeling paddles are located on the motor gearboxes just under the bumper bar at the rear of the chair. The front motor paddles can be accessed by manually turning the front wheels each to 1 side and flipping the paddles on the front of the motors just inside the fibreglass cowl on the front wheels. Don t forget to flip the levers back again when finished pushing the chair. Copyright Magic Mobility 2002 Servicing REPAIR OR SERVICE INFORMATION:
