7 We can achieve a lot together! Euro 1 vs Euro 6, real life test result 500 hp timber trucks from 1991 vs 2016; NOx down from 76,3 gram/10km to 3,2 gram/10km Tested under real driving, back to back by AVL In addition fuel consumption was also down with 25%, with corresponding reduction in CO2 7

8 Legislation development & future expectations Future: Limitation of CO 2 per km per freighted ton Need for reduced fuel consumption per freighted ton Still a lot can be done to improve the diesel motor based transport But gradually we should also switch to zero-emission where possible 8 8

11 Zero-emission part time Do we have to wait until there are viable solutions for zero-emission? No, for certain applications technology is here now that makes a vehicle zero emission part-time, with reasonable pay-back time (i.e. cheap CO2 reduction) Urban refuse trucks are immobile at 30-60% of their time, a system that shuts down the motor, but still can operate the compactor and be ready for a quick start at the press of the trottle exists: 30% fuel reduction proven in New York city real life test Can be retro-fit, brand in-dependent Source:Effenco 11

13 KA Electric vehicle product; On-board charger First use is Volvo electric and plugin hybrid buses Fed by 400V/3 phase charging the battery at 750V, 11 kw power Around 300 different requirements to fulfill (grid connected, vehicle installed, emission influencer) Around hours spent to develop and qualify the product The KA charger is for filling up the battery over night Planned to be used on further vehicle platforms 13

14 The KA initiated E-BIT project (Effektiv Bærekraftig Innovativ Transport) Background Example from US: 6% of CO2 emmision comes from trucks, of which 75% is from heavy duty long-haul (Wilfried Achenbach, Green Truck Summit, 14th of March 2017) Yet most of EV is for local distribution, why is this? Because of; Cost (~900 $/kwh today for LFP Li-Ion*, falling to 400 $/kwh in 2030?) Weight (~150 Wh/kg today for LFP Li-Ion, rising to 250 Wh/kg in 2030?) *HD trucks should use LFP, not NCA like cars due to number of charges; car 2000 times, truck at least 5000 times Still in 2030 a HD long haul battery at 1000kWh will be 4000kg and cost >2 MNOK, with present development Which solution can solve the problem? EBIT project mission Research into CO2-reduction on HD long-haul Focus on products to be installed in the trucks, and related services Develop a product that can be sold globally 14
