6 Need for more interactions Grid results in FP5 Datagrig Unicore But still limited impact world wide EU is increasing its support (125 M ) under FP6 NextGrid, SIMDAT, Akogrimo, EGEE... Barriers US will unfortunately not adopt EU technologies Other countries may use US techno even if not fully mature yet So we need More efforts to promote, share and build on European technologies Advanced Grid Research Workshops through European and Asian Co-operation 6/19

16 My understanding/comments Strong demand from China to collaborate in the IST domain with Europe Chinese budget for Grid activities has increased for the 5 years to come Chinese authorities encourage the emergence of start-ups from IT research institutes - Legend? Open source is an important issue High number of Chinese students in Europe Identify strategic priorities of interest for both sides Be ready for a long term investment - Must set up lasting relations Careful establishment of a local office in China, including local staff Chinese collaborators trained in Europe can efficiently support activities in China Identify the real decision maker - Strong hierarchy Advanced Grid Research Workshops through European and Asian Co-operation 16/19
