4 Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (C-ITS) The mentioned interaction is the domain of Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS), which will allow road users and traffic managers to share information and use it to coordinate their actions This cooperative element enabled by digital connectivity is expected to significantly improve road safety and traffic efficiency by helping the driver to take the right decisions and adapt to the traffic situation 4

Riders will be able to check their own data and share them on social media. These will be examples of the Internet of Things in the cycling context 6

21 Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (C-ITS) The role of the European Commission: the C-ITS platform C-ITS platform: The European Commission decided in 2014 to take a prominent role in the deployment of connected driving, by setting up a C-ITS Deployment Platform. The Platform is conceived as a cooperative framework including national authorities, C-ITS stakeholders and the Commission, in view of developing a shared vision on the interoperable deployment of C-ITS in the EU. The work is not finished, and the platform is expected to provide policy recommendations for the development of a roadmap and a deployment strategy for C-ITS in the EU. 21

Connectivity is not only an European matter, as the concept of mobility is changing in other regions as well: global harmonization and involvement of global stakeholders is the way forward. 24
