Falcon Owner s Manual
Your ebike can provide years of use as long as you take care of it. The most common issues you will face will be battery care and small hardware adjustments. The most important thing is to ensure you ride safely. You bike will have parts that wear, you may ride in traffic, and encounter other dangerous situations that could kill you while riding. Ride safely, wear a helmet and plan the safest travel routes possible. Obey traffic rules. Many cyclist will consider you a motorcycle, many vehicles will treat you like a cyclist. You need to watch where you ride and wear bright colors. You may be stopped by law enforcement. Ebikes are a new concept and many people are not familiar with the laws, including law enforcement officers. Laws are continually changing and it s your responsibility as a rider to stay current. It s our responsibility to show society that ebikes add benefits and have a place in our changing world. This manual is for reference only. Some repairs and maintenance may need to be performed by a professional. Some bicycle shops and many motorcycle shops will be willing to work on your bike. Some components such as tires, brakes handles and mirrors are not propriety and may be replaced with universal parts. Please contact via uebikes.com for further questions Table of Contents Daily Use... 3 Battery... 4 Key Fob... 5 Operation... 6 Tires... 7 Brakes... 8 Falcon Owner s Manual Urban Electric 2
Daily Use Every ride look over the bike and ensure nuts, bolts, and hardware are properly tightened and adjusted. Monitor tire pressure. Check lights. It s your responsibility to ensure that you and those you ride around are both safe. Wear safety glasses while riding or working on your bike. Test brakes each ride before riding. Charging the bike frequently will maximize battery lifespan. You do not need to let the battery charge to 100% before riding. As much as possible, keep the battery above 50% and do not let the battery sit discharged. When you first power on the machine it will show a voltage reading, usually between 60 and 88 volts. It will display voltage for a few seconds followed by your total kilometer count. Once the machine is below 65 volts you will need to soon charge the bike. See image 3.1. There is no set charging time to each bike. It will charge according to the battery level. It may charge in as little as a few minutes (if you re maintaining charge while stored), or around 7 hours if the battery is near full depletion. The bike frame serial number is located on the vertical pillar that leads to the handle bars. See image 3.2. If you want to lock the steering bars to the left, park and turn key to the off position. Turn handle bars all the way to the left, then push key in and turn key to the left. Remove key. This will lock the handle bars in the left position. Image 3.2 Image 3.3 Image 3.1 The seat has a locking mechanism located on the left hand side, under the passenger seat area. Insert key, turn right, the seat should release. You may need to periodically check seat alignment to ensure a snug fit that keeps the seat firmly in place. See image 3.3 Falcon Owner s Manual Urban Electric 3
Battery Image 4.1 The battery system is a 72 volt, 20aH. The battery cells are a 6-dmz-20. Many online retailers provide quality replacement cells. There are 6 cells total, each providing 12 volts at 20 ah. They are wired in series providing the total of 72 volts. See image 4.1. The batteries are located under the foot panel. See image 4.2. You need to remove the top 10 screws that hold the metal decorative plates in place. Then remove the main 4 screws to exposed the cells. Any time you work on the battery or bike you need to turn off the main power switch located under the seat. Replacement should be done by professionals as you could be exposed to high levels of electricity, and could potentially damage your bike. The battery system is a very stable, safe system when maintained and installed correctly. Charging: It is better to keep your bike charged all the time. The cells are a SLA (sealed lead acid). They can be turned on their sides and will not leak, provided they are not damaged. To maximize life of SLA batteries you should keep the batteries above 50% and keep them from freezing. If maintained they can provide THOUSANDS of miles a year and last several years (this is from personal riding experience here at Urban Electric, not some battery advertisement). If SLA batteries are stored with low voltage the lead plates begin to experience sulfation, and will cause the batteries to become resistant to charging and discharging. If you are storing your battery, charge it fully. Recharge when possible. Each time you charge the battery, unplug the wall end and battery end until the light on the charger goes out (usually 2 seconds). Then plug into the wall and battery. When the light is green it is fully charged. You should see around Kilometers per charge (provided you rode to a near full depletion of battery). This is roughly 25 to 40 miles. 1 Kilometer=0.62 miles. Riding Image 4.2 Falcon Owner s Manual Urban Electric 4
no after purchase support in regards to lithium battery conversions. It is possible and would provide lighter bike weight and possibly further ride distances (if equipped with higher ah). Image 5.1 in soft terrain like sand, snow or soft dirt will reduce the mileage. Also, riding in cold conditions will reduce ride time per charge. We have seen 20-40% loss in ride distance in cold/freezing weather per charge. This is normal and is similar to loss in MPG when using gasoline engines in similar weather. Once you resume riding in non-freezing conditions, your ride time per charge will increase. Charging port is located directly down from front of seat. It is protected by a flip cover. See image 5.1. Main power switch: Located under the seat. Turn off anytime working on electrical system. See image 5.2. Switching to Lithium: This should only be done by professionals. Urban Electric offers Image 5.2 Key Fob To lock and alarm the bike, press the top left button once. The bike will sound an alarm and lock rear wheel if rolled while in lock mode. To unlock the bike, press the top right button once. The center button with an alarm bell icon will sound the alarm when pressed. Pressing the button with an electric bolt icon twice will turn the bike on in keyless mode. It will run and operate without the key in the ignition. Pressing the unlock/lock button will turn the bike off. Falcon Owner s Manual Urban Electric 5
Operation Image 6.1 Image 6.2 Turn the key to the on position. The bike display should be lit blue. Once turned to the on position it is ON. Be careful as it will go with the twist of the throttle. Right brake handle is the front brake, left handle is rear brake. See image 6.1. Brakes lights are operational with the key on, regardless the light switch position. The horn will sound with either side orange button located on the handlebars. See image 6.3. Turn signal is not automatic switch off, you need to manually turn off after each turn. Light switch is located on the right grip, and turning to position 1 will turn on tail light, position 2 will turn on head light and tail light. There is a high-low beam switch on the left handlebar, pushing the switch forward will turn the beam to high. See image 6.2. Image 6.3 Falcon Owner s Manual Urban Electric 6
Tires Front and rear tire are identical, both a tire. 10 inch diameter inside, by 3 inch wide. There are many options of tread pattern and style that you need consider if replacing your tire. Contact Urban Electric for suggestions and possible replacement. You can decide to run tube or tubeless. Tire removal is done by removing the wheel main bolt and nut(s). Take care to stabilize the bike when working on tires. Carefully removing axle bolt and pull wheel free from bike. The rear has two nuts to ensure the bolt does not come free by accident. Along with removing the bolt, you will set the power cable aside to pull wheel free. Falcon Owner s Manual Urban Electric 7
Brakes Image 8.1 The front brake will self adjust as it is a hydraulic disc. Ensure brake fluid level is sufficient in reservoir. See image 8.1. Please contact Urban Electric for replacement parts. The rear brake is easy to adjust. See image 8.2. Clear area, put bike on double kickstand that allows the entire rear tire to be off the ground. Turn bike on, twist the throttle for 1 second and release. While wheel is spinning twist adjustment nut below brake unit in until you hear a slight scraping sound. This usually requires 1 or 2 turns each time. It should not need very much adjustment. The braking system on the Falcon is regenerative. As you use the front brake handle it will initially engage the rear motor to put a slight charge back to the battery. It will double as a slight brake function, slowing the bike down. As you increase your pull on the front brake handle it will fully engage the front disc and should bring you to a stop. Utilizing the regenerative brake system will increase the life of your brake hardware. Image 8.2 Falcon Owner s Manual Urban Electric 8
