6 Transit Providers Southeast Michigan is served by multiple transit providers, including DDOT, SMART, AAATA (TheRide), and the Detroit People Mover (DTC). Once operational in late 2016, M-1 RAIL will be the fifth transit provider in the region. 6

9 What Does This All Mean? All of this means an increasing number of people in southeast Michigan have a difficult time getting to where they need to go. When people can t get to where jobs are, everyone in southeast Michigan suffers. This lack of job access harms our regional economy through lost productivity, lost wages, and lower tax revenues. 9

The plan will: Explain what will happen if nothing changes. Assess the transit needs of southeast Michigan. Recommend future transit services to meet these needs. Identify a realistic funding and implementation strategy to make these regional transit investments a reality. 26
27 Outcomes Of The Plan The BEST: Regional Master Transit Plan will lay the groundwork for a regional transit system in southeast Michigan that works for everyone. Just imagine: Reliable transit service so you ll always be able to make it to work, school, the doctor, shopping, and back home again. Increased coordination between the existing transit providers.
