2 FCH2 JU, a strong Public-Private Partnership with a focused objec?ve Fuel Cells & Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH2 JU) Industry Grouping Close to 100 members ~ 50% SME Research Grouping Over 60 members To bring FCH technologies to the point of market readiness by 2020 The Joint Undertaking is managed by a Governing Board composed of representa:ves of all three partners and lead by Industry. 2
3 FCH JU objectives COUNCIL REGULATION (EU) No 559/2014 of 6 May 2014 establishing the FCH 2 JU Reduce the produc:on cost of fuel cell systems to be used in transport applica:ons, while increasing their life:me to levels which can compete with conven:onal technologies Increase the electrical efficiency and the durability of the different fuel cells used for power produc:on to levels which can compete with conven:onal technologies while reducing costs Increase the H2 produc:on energy efficiency mainly from water electrolysis & renewable sources while reducing costs, so that the combined system of the H2 produc:on and the conversion using the fuel cell system can compete with the alterna:ves for electricity produc:on available on the market Demonstrate on a large scale the feasibility of using H2 to support renewable energy sources integra:on into the energy systems, incl. through its use as a compe::ve energy storage medium for electricity produced from renewables Reduce the use of the EU-defined cri:cal raw materials, for instance through low-pla:num or pla:num-free resources and through recycling or reducing or avoiding the use of rare earth metals
