2 The Bergen region is at the forefront of developing smart transport solutions Imagine a region where: public agencies collaborate closely to solve common challenges and create the mobility solutions of the future private agencies play an active role together with the authorities and are part of the bigger picture to ensure innovation and good solutions for one and all data and knowledge are shared and disseminated between the parties good ideas are developed based on knowledge and insight new technology is used and tested in a real city with real people

4 We want to create a MUST - a mobility laboratory for the development of smart transport solutions MUST will be: a catalyst for technology development, commercial development and social development in relation to mobility and transport a laboratory for development and introduction of the transport and mobility solutions of the future a collaboration between Hordaland County Authority/Skyss, the City of Bergen and the other municipalities in the region, and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration

5 A new business model for public transport in Norway New ways of collaborating, the involvement of new parties, new technology and new requirements of user friendly services challenge old business models MUST can become a platform for the development of a brand new business model for public transport in Norway As a joint venture in which all relevant government agencies in the transport and communication sectors in the Bergen region are represented, MUST will be able to simplify and improve development and decision-making processes across today s boundaries and organisational obstacles

7 The advantages of the Bergen region The Bergen region is a perfect laboratory for the whole of Norway: strong research environments and clusters clear and ambitious goals for sustainable mobility Norway s second biggest public transport provider We have shown that we can do it together! In 2017, the Bergen region hosted one of the world s largest sports events the UCI Road World Championships For ten days, large parts of the region served as a big, live mobility laboratory

8 MUST: Testing of self-driving vehicles We are going to pilot self-driving electric minibuses in the Bergen area Skyss and the City of Bergen have entered into a collaboration with ITS Norway and Bergen Chamber of Commerce and Industry Various concepts for needs-based services to Bergen Light Rail stops from places of work or residential areas will be relevant test projects for MUST in the future

9 MUST: Active signal priority for public transport Improved accessibility, shorter travel times and increased predictability for public transport are achieved through active signal priority Hordaland County Authority, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and Skyss are collaborating on a successful pilot project, which will now be further developed New opportunities for testing technology linked to sensor-based solutions that prioritise pedestrians and cyclists, for instance at light-controlled level crossings

10 MUST: New opportunities for transport by sea A large percentage of people in Norway live along the coast; yet, the sea is used less as a means of transporting people and goods than previously Electrification of ports and vessels in combination with automation technology and cooperation can create brand new opportunities for better logistics in freight transport Autonomy and electrification will also provide better environmental and financial results for passenger transport by sea, which could pave the way for more boat services and, for instance, autonomous water taxis
