2 JPS Makes Record Investment of Approximately US$116 Million in Electricity Infrastructure in 2018 JPS is on target to invest approximately US$116.05M (or approximately J$15.5 Billion) in upgrading Jamaica s energy infrastructure in This is the largest single year investment in the Company s history. The increased investment is aimed at improving key areas of the company s operations, which will ultimately result in improved efficiency and better service to you, our customers. The Company is also making significant investments to fight System Losses; install Jamaica s first energy storage facility, to significantly reduce the effects of renewables intermittency; and deploy Smart Grid Technologies for improved supply reliability. The investment also includes Distributed Generation projects in partnership with our large customers, as well as the overhaul of several generating units, and ongoing structural integrity works on the power delivery system.

3 Customers to Benefit from Annual Tariff Determination The annual tariff adjustment recently approved by the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) is consistent with JPS strategic objective of balancing the needs of the electrical system with the needs of our customers. The OUR s Determination on the company s application will allow customers to benefit from cost savings, while the Company will be able to continue investing in critical projects to modernize the energy sector and reduce bills over the long term. The Determination will result in slight adjustments in customers bills. Residential and small commercial customers will see a less than 0.5% increase in their bills. This translates to about $67 on the average residential customer s bill, if everything else remains constant. Large commercial and industrial customers will see a decrease of 0.5% or less in their bills. These adjustments will apply to electricity used after October 1, JPS President & CEO, Emanuel DaRosa, explains that, One of JPS objectives in submitting the application to the OUR, was to manage rate impacts to customers and reduce the possibility of rate shocks from future rate reviews. This was achieved through the acceptance of our proposal

4 to incorporate some plant depreciation costs in this rate review, rather than delay these costs for future reviews. This approach provides gradualism and helps prevent a balloon effect on rates, he notes. Making the Grid Smarter For You! As JPS continues to take steps to make the electricity grid smarter with the ability to self-heal, the company recently implemented an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), which facilitated the installation of what is known as a Fault Location, Isolation and Services Restoration (FLISR) application. This comes on the heels of JPS installing a number of Distribution Automated (DA) switches, which allow the company to more efficiently isolate difficulties on the grid, and more importantly, gives the company the ability to transfer customer load when there is a challenge on a feeder.

5 With the FLISR application, JPS is now able to: efficiently use the DA switches to: - Minimize the duration of outages - Identify challenges automatically, without human intervention. This can be followed up by automatic execution of Element Isolation and Service Restoration in sequence, thus moving JPS closer to a true self-healing network. The software is now being tested in the New Kingston area and will be evaluated over the next few months for roll-out at a later date. Grounding and Wiring Before you can receive electricity supply it is important that you get a Licensed Electrician to attend to the electrical wiring and grounding of the premises. This is important as faulty wiring and grounding can cause damage to your electrical equipment and appliances. To ensure continuous protection of your electrical equipment, you should have your grounding and internal wiring checked by a licensed electrician once per year.

6 There is definitely a connection between the state of a building's wiring & grounding and the possibility of equipment damage. For example under certain conditions, a poor state of wiring and grounding can lead to damage to equipment and buildings and possible injury to individuals. 8 Being Prepared for Your Holiday Electricity Needs Will You Need Temporary Power Supply for Your Christmas Event? As December approaches and you put your checklist together for your events, you may need to apply for legal, safe, reliable temporary supply. When Do You Need Temporary Power Supply? When you are using a location that has not had power supply for more than a year When you are using an open field or a location that has no power supply at all When your electricity needs cannot be met by the power supply that is currently available to you When the power supply at your location is 110 volts and you will be using equipment that require 220 volts Guidelines for GEI When applying for temporary supply, you should submit an application to JPS. A field visit will then be done, and you will be advised if you will need Government Electrical Inspectorate (GEI) certification.

9 If you do, the property/location must be checked by a Licensed Electrician to ensure that all electrical connections are ready to receive electricity. Your Licensed Electrician will submit the application to the Government Electrical Inspectorate s (GEI s) office. The process of inspection, approval and certification can take up to 4 weeks. Once the certificate is issued to JPS, you should visit a JPS office, to apply for temporary supply. JPS will need details of your load requirements, e.g. the types of equipment you will use, to determine your deposit.
