In this context, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Bengaluru has installed a 400kWp Roof Top Grid 125

2 Photo Article Shobha connected Solar Power Generation Plant at M Chinnaswamy Stadium to Ensure uninterrupted, clean regulated power and also reducing equivalent green House gas emissions at the conventional grid power generating stations, thereby Helping to contribute to protecting the environment for future generations. Such generated power synchronize with the existing BESCOM grid inside KSCA Premises and as per the existing net metering policy of BESCOM, export such Power to the BESCOM grid at recommended voltage levels with all protections. PROJECT BRIEF Rooftop Structure & Modules Mounting The project is installed at the eastern side of the stadium. Special mounting structure with mild steel are taken radially along the roof with small gap between the roof and solar panel frame to reduce uplifting, parallel to roof slope (which is at 3.5 deg). The modules are mounted using Rectangular Hallow Section (RHS) where this can be maintained and serviced easily. Vertical support (stool) and horizontal purlin (radial member) are used where the solar panel will be mounted using aluminum rafter. The radial members are connected to stools by welding process. Two parallel aluminum rafters in each section take up 3 solar panels of weight totally 90 kgs of that section. This is distributed between the adjacent aluminum rafters. DC POWER: SOLAR MODULES, DC WIRING &ARRAY JUNCTION BOX : EMMVEE Solar Photovoltaic crystalline modules of 300Wp with Voc, 8.93 Isc with 15.38% efficiency were used. These modules are certified with various IEC standard 126

The modules are PID ( Potential Induced Degradation ) resistant with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag encapsuled. The DC interconnection are done with 1100V DC cable with MC4 connectors for long life and safety. These cable are routed with hard PVC conduits and cable trays and terminated to the (AJB) Array Junction Box. The AJB s are equipped with surge protection device, DC fuses and isolators enclosed in IP65 box. SOLAR INVERTER & LT PANELS : 20 numbers Delta RPI 20 series inverters with 20kVA capacity were used. The inverters are equipped with MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking V) that adjusts the voltage of SPV array to optimize solar energy fed into the grid, highest level of Ingress protection (IP65) and RS485 compatible communication. LT panels are outdoor type with IP65 consisting ACB (Air Circuit Breaker) to protect from Overload and short circuit. The LTDB is connected between the inverter and main LT panel with RS485 compatible communication. ABB/Schneider switchgear components are used for high quality performance. 127

4 Photo Article Shobha SWITCH YARD : Switch yard comprises of LT panel, LT/HT transformer, HT panel & metering panel built with type tested design as per relevant standards. The cables are routed in trenches will all necessary identifications. The main LT panel is between LT panel & 650VA transformer. The transformer is of step up type 3 phase 50 Hz 650VA oil immersion. The integral construction of the transformer consists of double float type Buchholz relay, oil temperature & winding temperature indicator installed on foundations constructed as per BESCOM & CEIG standards. SCADA & WEATHER MONITORING : SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system & control room has been provided to collect data & alarms from all inverters, weather stations such as Pyronometer for solar irradiance capture, like wise ambient temperature and wind speed monitoring. Data s are also captured from LT & HT panels, fire safety system, etc. This helps Operation & Maintenance and plant owners by displaying informations like power generation at plant, energy exported to grid, weather information, detailed report & graphs, plant performance, up time, efficiency, etc. Remote monitoring of power plant is also enabled by connecting to SCADA. 128

5 Rooftop Photovoltaic system at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium SAFETY : Extreme care has been taken to ensure safety of personnel and equipment. The solar plant has been equipped with suitable fire fighting system. The central monitoring panel can detect any fire/smoke & annunciate and audio alarm. Suitable & distinct earthing has been provided to all non current carrying metal bodies like each array structure of PV array yard, frames, metal roof sheet, connecting truss and bodies of inverters, distribution boards, switch yard components, etc. to prevent electrical shock in case of leakage currents. Lightning arrestor has been provided to PV array yard. Safety sign board have been displayed wherever essential. The installation was done adhering to safety practices. 129
