2 ME 300 Fundamental of Internal Combustion Engine COURSE INSTRUCTORS Name: Xingcai Lu Office: ME A51 Name: Xinqi Qiao Office: ME A508 COURSE DESCRIPTION Fundamentals of internal combustion engine is the core course of the Automobile Engineering and the Internal Combustion Engine Engineering. Through the learning of this course, enable students to master the basic concept and performance parameters, and familiar with the operating principles of the internal combustion engine, deeply understanding the engine thermal efficiency and mechanical efficiency, and recognized the important strategies for power and economy improvement. In addition, this course will do help to understand the combustion process of modern internal combustion engine, learn the emission standard and measuring process, grasp the electronic control strategy. 4 7 Introduce the mixture exchange processes, analyze the characteristics of exchange loss including the exhaust loss, intake charge loss, and bump loss of four-stroke engine. 8 Introduce the intake charge efficiency and its improvement methods. The effects of turbocharg on the combustion and emissions are also introduced. 9 Flow characteristics of in-cylinder fuel/air mixture, and their influence on the mixture formation and combustion process of spark-ignited or compressed ignition engines, charge motion 10 The control methods of cycle-to-cycle variation and abnormal combustion, knock combustion, heat release model 11 The configuration of combustion chamber and its effects on the combustion characteristics. 1 Recognize the supplying and consuming conditions of the engine fuels, understanding the alternative fuels combustion process and emissions characteristics.
