4 Typical Architects/Engineers Specifications Series: 4000 General The contractor shall furnish and install as show on the plans qty Deming horizontal frame mounted Series 4000 size centrifugal pump(s) as herein specifi ed. The pump(s) shall be rated for continuous service and of (all iron)(bronze fi tted)(all bronze) construction for the following operating conditions. Each pump shall be capable of delivering a primary condition of GPM of liquid against feet total head. A secondary point of GPM at feet of head and a shut off of feet within a minimum effi ciency of % at the primary conditions. Liquid Handled Temperature Specifi c gravity Viscosity of liquid at pumping temperature NPSH A NOTE: Add any additional facts concerning the nature of the liquid or installation which might affect pump construction, application or operation. Model 4001, 4011, 4021 Horizontal Frame Mounted The design requires a 416 stainless steel shaft sized for a maximum defl ection of.002 at the seal faces with the pump running at RPM maximum load conditions. The bearings shall be (grease)(oil) lubricated having a 2-year minimum life (AFBMA B 10 ) under the maximum load conditions and protected form outside contamination. The shaft and bearings are to be encased in a cast iron ASTM-A48 Class 30 frame and to be of a micrometer adjustment design. The pump and motor will be mounted on a common (fabricated steel with drip rim)(fabricated steel) baseplate. Pumps are to be coupled to the driver by means of an approved non-spacer type coupling with an OSHA approved coupling guard. Construction Details Casing shall be of (cast iron)(bronze) and suitable for the medium being pumped. The casing shall be vertically split with tangential discharge and capable of standing hydrostatic test pressures of 1-1/2 times maximum working pressure. All assembly points shall be of machine register fi t to assure proper pump alignment. The casing shall also have a tapped and plugged drain connection available for any of the eight (8) rotatable casing discharge positions. Casing Connection The threaded and fl anged casing nozzles shall conform to ANSI B16.1 and NPT specifi cations with a minimum 125 PSI ratings, all fl anged nozzle connections shall be standard fl at face. Flange units start with 3 discharge connections; below 3 are NPT threaded. Impeller The impeller shall be of the taper bore semi-enclosed single suction type of (cast iron)(bronze) both statically and hydraulically balanced for maximum effi ciency and smooth operation. Holes shall be provided through the impeller hub to keep positive pressure on the packing or mechanical seal and balance axial thrust loads. Impeller shall be positioned and securely locked to the shaft by the use of a Woodruff key, hex head castilated nut, pin, and washer. Motor The motor shall be not less than hp RPM. NEMA design B squirrel cage type, (drip proof)(tefc) EISA effi ciency motor with (1.15)(1.0) service factor and suitable for operation on (115)(230) volt, 1 phase, (50) (60) Hertz power supply OR (200)(230)(460)(575) volt, 3 phase, 60 Hertz power supply. Motor size shall be suffi cient to prevent overloading at operating conditions or at the lowest listed head conditions whichever point requires greater horsepower. Following installation, grouting and connection of all piping, pump and motor must be checked for alignment in accordance with standards of the Hydraulic Institute. 2 12/10
5 Seal Application Use of Heat Exchanger on Centrifugal Pumps Equipped With Single Mechanical Seal and Choker Ring The single mechanical seal available on Deming 4000, 4100 and 4200 Series pumps is recommended for handling clear liquids at temperatures not exceeding 180 F. A small portion of the liquid being pumped is recirculated from the discharge thru the seal chamber to act as a lubricated and coolant. For Hot Water Service at higher temperatures Choker Ring Construction is recommended. The choker ring is installed in the annular space at the end of the seal chamber as shown in Figure 2 to restrict the fl ow back to the impeller. This increases the pressure in the seal chamber which in turn increases the boiling point of the water and the safe operating temperature. Satisfactory seal life is obtained at the moderate pressures generally encountered on hot water circulating applications with water temperatures up to 225 F. Water treatment, chromate content, operating pressure and temperature are interrelated factors effecting seal life. For more severe service conditions at higher pressures longer seal life can be obtained if the liquid in the seal chamber is cooled to approximately 170 F. This may be accomplished without dilution of the liquid being pumped by passing the recirculating liquid through a heat exchanger as shown in Figure 1. Where the temperature may exceed 225 F. Even when the pump is not running, special seal materials may be required. Refer conditions to factory for recommendation. FIGURE 2 FIGURE 1 3
6 Seal Application A valve must be used on the cooling line for control. This will enable one to cool the seal water suffi ciently at a minimum fl ow rating of cooling water. Heat exchanges can be selected as follows: 1. Determine the recirculation capacity from the graph shown in Figure Use Chart 1 below to select the proper heat exchanger. 3.
