4 PARIS AGREEMENT Invites Parties to communicate their first nationally determined contribution (2018) Parties to the Paris Agreement shall undertake first global stocktake in 2023 and every five years thereafter. The outcome of the global stocktake shall inform Parties in updating and enhancing, in a nationally determined manner, their actions and support in accordance with the relevant provisions of this Agreement, as well as in enhancing international cooperation for climate action.

6 ICAO GHG STRATEGY 1. Carbon Neutral Growth, i.e. total net emissions remains at 2020 measured level or lower 2. Aspirational Goal of 50% absolute reduction by the entire sector by 2050 (includes a clause of reviewing this aspirational goal by 2032 which means it can be changed) These goals will be achieved by emission reductions and through the Global MBM of ICAO named Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA)

7 ICAO GHG STRATEGY CORSIA is an Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) It will start on voluntary basis form 2021 It will become mandatory from 2027 The scope: keep the level of the emissions not higher than the levels to be recorded in 2020: - at sector level - at each airline level

10 INITIAL SUGGESTION BY ROUND TABLE TO IMO IMO may consider the following ASPIRATIONAL (provisional) OBJECTIVES Aspirational Objective 1 to maintain the sector's annual total CO 2 emissions below 2008 levels Aspirational Objective 2 to reduce CO 2 emissions per tonne-km, as an average across the sector, by at least 50% by 2050, compared to 2008 (a possible) Aspirational Objective 3 - to reduce international shipping s total annual CO 2 emissions by [an agreed] percentage by 2050, compared to 2008 All above should be subject to a progress review in 2033
