The first high pressure diesel injection system with piezo injectors was the forerunner of the current VDO Common Rail Diesel System. Worldwide! Common Rail Diesel Injection Systems consist of the following main components: a high pressure pump, piezo injectors, rail, lines and engine control unit. The high pressure pump continually delivers diesel fuel into the rail under pressure; the rail supplies fuel to the piezo injectors through the lines. The engine unit controls the piezo injectors to ensure that the right amount of diesel fuel is injected into the cylinder at the right point in time. The advantages of the VDO Common Rail Diesel Systems in detail: Vehicle specific systems with both direct and indirect drive of fuel feed pump and high pressure pump by the engine. The high pressure pump delivers fuel at up to 1800 bar Shortest cycle times through piezo injectors; free selection of injection start and injection volume in accordance with engine control unit (ECU) specifications 4
