1 Butterfly Recording County Plans If you have a particular walk you enjoy, it s easy to access and you want to monitor butterflies along this route for a number of years, then please establish a transect wherever you want! However, there are areas and species that are not being sufficiently recorded at present and the following county plans are guides to help identify how we can remedy this across schemes: Butterfly Atlas Project , Irish Butterfly Monitoring Scheme, Five Visit Monitoring Scheme and Single Species Monitoring. Counties within Northern Ireland have also been included to aid all-island co-ordination of recording for the Butterfly Atlas Project and all-island analyses of monitoring scheme records. How to interpret the maps: No. of current monitoring scheme transects No. of additional transects needed and where they re needed e.g. in yellow areas either 6 more Irish Butterfly Monitoring Scheme transects are needed or 12 more Five Visit Monitoring Scheme Transects (or a combination of both) If possible, new transects would be in areas that would detect these priority species High priority 10 km2 atlas square Low priority 10 km2 atlas square Squares with ongoing monitoring i.e. already contributing to the atlas For upcoming Single- Species Monitoring Schemes, these are the priority species for this county
