1 Injector change DIY Warning: The injector fuel lines, the rail, and the HPFP are pressurized long after you turn off the car, I recommend disconnecting the battery and letting the car sit over night before performing this procedure. In performing this procedure, you do so at your own risk. This procedure is based on an i with an N54 motor that already has the cowling removed. If you are putting in the new style injectors (last three are 079) and currently have 138 or 261 injectors, I am told that you will have to change all the injectors in that bank (3). When installing a new injector you also need a new coupler. Part # If you are installing a used injector that has been out of the motor for any length of time, you will need to replace the gasket ring and that part # is However if you are simply swapping injectors for troubleshooting or are installing new injector, you will not need this part. 1. Remove the cabin air filter and cowling. (No cowling on mine)

2 2. Remove the four 5mm screws engine cover

3 3. Remove the engine cover

4 4. For this demonstration we ll be swapping out cylinder 2 s injector. 5. Disconnect the coil

5 6. Remove coil pack (To make it easier to replace the injector retention plate, you may want to remove the adjacent cylinder s coil pack as well. In this case cylinder 1. The retention plates function in pairs for cylinders 1&2, 3&4, and 5&6. 7. It should now look like this

6 8. Disconnect the electrical connection from the injector by pushing slightly to the right and pulling up. 9. Disconnect the fuel line from the injector by turning the 14mm wrench counter clockwise.

7 10. Disconnect the fuel line from the rail by turning the 14mm wrench counter clockwise. 11. Remove the fuel line.

8 12. Use a 12 point 8mm socket to remove the injector retention plate. 13. Turn counter clockwise to remove the 12 point bolt securing the retention plate.

9 14. The retention plate and the 8mm bolt. 15. Remove the injector by pulling straight out. You may need to wiggle or twist it (slightly), and if you need to use pliers, only clamp on to the hex coupler at the top of the injector.

10 If using pliers to remove the injector only clamp on to hex bolt do not clamp on to the threads! 16. Picture of injector and clamping point after it has been removed.

11 17. If swapping injectors, do not leave the injectors out of the cylinders for very long as the o-rings may swell. 18. When installing new injectors or swapping injectors, record the calibration values off of the injectors for coding later in this procedure prior to installation them. 19. If installing a new injector, install the coupler prior to installation.

12 20. Insert the new/relocated injector in to the appropriate cylinder with the tab facing the passenger side fender. 21. Install the injector retention plate with the concave side down.

13 22. Tighten the retention plate bolt until it is flush with the head and snug. No need to over tighten this. 23. Perform the previous steps in reverse order to re-assemble everything. Leave the Engine cover off to inspect for leaks. 24. After installation is complete, re-connect your battery and turn on the ignition (don t start the car) a few times to prime the lines and inspect for leaks. 25. If all is good, install the engine covers and cowlings. You are now ready to code your new injectors, or new injector locations in to the cars DME. 26. For the rest of this procedure, I m assuming you already have a properly configured laptop to code the injectors. If not, and you need further assistance with this, you can contact Wedgeperformance@gmail.com for their services. 27. Connect your laptop via the OBDII port and INPA cable and verify communications via the two black circles. 28. Select F3 for the 3 series..even if you have a 1 series (mine looks a bit different because my.ini file has been edited.)

14 29. Double click on Engine and then MSD 80.0 for.n Press F9 for system diagnosis

15 31. Hold the Shift key down and press F4 to select EOL injector rate comparison 32. Press the corresponding F key for the injector you are replacing. In this case, I will be selecting F2.

16 33. Enter the new injector values in to the appropriate fields. In my case, I was putting a different injector in this cylinder and these are the new values I put in. Your values will obviously vary. (picture of injector is the one I removed)

17 34. Select OK after you ve entered the new values, verify your changes have been made, and press F10 until you ve backed out of the software. Note: It is not uncommon for the flow value to be.02 less than the value you have entered. This should not be the case with the energy value, it should be verbatim. 35. You have now completed this procedure.
