Reply: No. The 28 total weld count is per Examination Category and not per an individual system. Reply (1): No. Question (2): Is it a requirement to inspect at least one bolt in accordance with IWA-2550(a)(2) if there is leakage identified around the enclosure, during repetitive outages during boric acid walkdowns, but no leakage is identified during the Table IWB , Examination Category B-P system leakage test performed each refueling outage? Interpretation: XI Subject: IWA-1400(a) (1995 Edition With the 1996 Addenda Through the 2010 Edition With the 2011 Addenda) Date Issued: May 17, 2012 File No.: Question: During the installation activities for a replacement vessel with a Class 1 nozzle, the Owner performs a repair/replacement activity that replaces a portion of the replacement vessel Class 1 nozzle with a section of the previous vessel nozzle using a full penetration circumferential weld. The installation weld between the nozzle pieces is within the boundary defined in the replacement vessel Design Specification. Does IWA-1400(a) allow the Owner to consider that weld to be a Class 1 full penetration nozzle-to-nozzle weld in the vessel? Reply: Yes, provided the requirements of IWA-4311 are met. Reply (1): No. Question (2): Is it the intent of Case N-552, 3.3(a)(2) and 3.3(b)(3), and Mandatory Appendix VIII, Supplement 5, 3.5(a)(2), that nozzle inner radius and nozzle-to-shell weld procedure and personnel demonstrations be performed on all possible inspection surfaces? Reply (2): No; the essential parameters for flaw detection and sizing that are documented during the procedure qualification (maximum misorientation angle, range of impingement angles at the flaw, and maximum metal path to flaw) are independent of the inspection surface. Question (3): Is it the intent of Case N-552, section 5, and Mandatory Appendix VIII, Supplement 5, para. 4.0, that computer modeling can be used to expand a procedure that is demonstrated on one inspection surface to another inspection surface for field examinations provided that the misorientation angle, impingement angles at the flaw, and metal path are bounded by those that were originally demonstrated?
