A response to economic crisis by investing in future jobs and growth: Coupling research to innovation 'from research to retail' Addressing people's concerns about their livelihoods, safety and environment i.e. Focus on societal challenges : e.g. aging, clean energy and transport Open to participation by companies, universities and institutes in EU & beyond 2-Year Work Programmes, identifying research areas to be funded. 18 Ongoing EU JP project FP7 JEDI-ACE Japanese-European De-Icing Aircraft Collaborative Exploration. Integrated ice protection combining: passive anti-icing coating, active de-icing devices, ice sensors. Especially for composite wings. 3.5 years 1.8 M costs ( 1.33 M EU )

19 Ongoing EU JP project FP7 SHEFAE SURFACE HEAT EXCHANGERS FOR AERO ENGINES Surface cooler & composite mount structure to withstand extreme environmental conditions around core engine. Conventional parasitic surface coolers on outer wall bypass duct Rear Fan Case Oil to Air Surface Coolers Proposed surface cooler on inner wall of bypass duct, within a new composite structure Starboard Core Fairing replaced with Surface Cooler Mount Composite Structure 3 years 2.1 M costs ( 1.14 M EU )
