2 NATIONAL STATISTICS OFFICE OF GEORGIA (GEOSTAT) External Trade of Georgia in 2017 (Preliminary) In 2017 external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to USD million, 13.8 percent higher year-on-year. The exports equaled USD million (29.1 percent higher), while the imports stood at USD million (9.4 percent higher). The negative trade balance was USD million in 2017 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 49.0 percent. Export excluding re-export amounted to USD million, 24.5 percent higher year-on-year. 4 The table below shows monthly data for exports and imports in absolute indicators and their change (in percentage) compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. 5 In 2017 the external trade turnover of Georgia with the EU countries amounted to USD million, grew by 2.0 percent compared to the previous year. Exports amounted to USD million (13.0 percent higher), while imports amounted to USD million (0.8 percent lower). The share of these countries in the external trade turnover of Georgia amounted to 26.6 percent, 23.7 percent in exports and 27.5 percent in imports (in , 27.1 and 30.4 percent correspondingly) percent of the trade deficit came to the EU countries (31.7 percent in 2016). In 2017 the external trade turnover of Georgia with the CIS countries totaled USD million (higher by 30.2 percent compared to 2016). Exports stood at USD million (60.0 percent higher), while imports equaled USD million (19.2 percent higher). The share of the CIS countries in the external trade turnover of Georgia constituted 33.1 percent, 43.3 percent in exports and 29.6 percent in imports (In , 34.9 and 27.2 percent, respectively). In 2017 compared to previous year, CIS countries accounted for 22.5 percent of the overall trade deficit (24.0 percent in 2016). 10 Major commodity groups by exports and imports In 2017 Copper ores and concentrates reclaimed the first place in the list of top export items, equaling USD million, or 15.4 percent of total exports. Exports Ferro-alloys of totaled USD million and its share in the total exports amounted to 11.3 percent. Motor cars occupied the third place. Exports of this commodity group stood at USD million and 8.6 percent of the total exports.
