It is crucial that the train can continue to be driven for a certain time, even after the outbreak of a fire, and ensure the safe evacuation of passengers and personnel before fire-fighting commences. In general: only components that do not further the spread of fire may be used. K-FLEX RAIL APPLICATION The introduction of the new industry standard aims to a harmonization of fire safety requirements on rolling stock market across Europe. The regulatory change has been driven by a desire for a safe and interoperable system across Europe. The introduction of a European rolling stock test standard is important to reduce trade barriers faced by manufacturers. The move towards harmonization has additionally been driven by the issue of rolling stock travelling across country borders. > Brochure < 3

4 EN EN defines a classification system that specifies requirements for fire behavior of materials and products used in railways applications. EN Scope states: The measures and requirements specified in EN are intended to protect passengers and staff in railway vehicles in the event of a fire on board. The protection of passengers and staff is essentially based on measures to prevent fires occurring due to technical faults, due to equipment design or vehicle layout minimizing the possibility of ignition of materials installed on railway vehicles, due to accidents or vandalism The ultimate objective in the event of a fire on board is to allow passengers and staff to evacuate the railway vehicle and reach a place of safety.
