5 Construction Features Design Approach The modular design concept of MARIM turbines offers the benefits of integrating standardized modules to provide an optimum solution for any customer requirement. This optimized flow-path approach allows producing a varied range of turbines with fewer modules. Turbine casing The turbine casings are horizontally split at the center line which facilitates easy assembly, maintenance and replacement of parts. Proper tightness of the mating surfaces is ensured through high- accuracy finish and using metal-to-metal contact with a sealing compound. Time-tested benefits n Minimalist design changes lead to lower production and delivery time. n Commonality of parts between standard modules offer easier and faster availability of spares. n Lower development cost and time. Solid rotor MARIM turbines use rotors which have rotor discs and shaft machined from a solid forging with no possibility of rotor disc loosening. The rotor incorporates integral thrust-collar on the non-drive end, which maintains squareness with respect to the shaft axis. The emergency over-speed governor is also mounted on the non-drive end of the rotor shaft. The fully-assembled rotor is dynamically balanced. Governor valve The smaller units have options of single or multi (usually 3) governing valves. However, larger units are provided with multi-governing valves, as standard feature, which offer better part-load performance. Stop and emergency valve The stop-and-emergency valve is of fail-safe design, and is hydraulically operated with high-pressure oil supplied from the control oil-system of the unit. 6 Blades The blades are made of alloy steel of X22CrMoV121 for steam temperature exceeding 3 C (suitable up to 55 C) or X2Cr13 for steam temperature lower than 3 C. Generally, T type of blades are used with integral shroud plate to provide sealing and imparting additional strength. For larger blades, like in low pressure condensing-stages, damping wire is provided. Special care is provided to stress analysis. Nozzles Nozzles are manufactured from stainless steel. The first-stage nozzles are fixed into the groove in the casing /nozzle chest and welded (for high-pressure applications). The nozzles, for subsequent stages are welded into diaphragms, which are then fixed into grooves located between the stages. These diaphragms split at the horizontal center line, for easy removal and maintenance. Gland seals The gland seals used are generally metallic labyrinth packing for shaft-end gland-seals as well as for interstage gland-seals. The length of shaft-end labyrinth packing depends on the level of turbine exhaust pressure. Radial bearings The radial bearings are generally white-metal-lined sleeve bearings with horizontal split, for low-speed operations. For high-speed operations and for larger units tilting-pad type bearings are used. Thrust bearings The standard design uses a thrust bearing of tilting-pad type fitted on the non-drive end of the rotor shaft. The thrust bearing has equal thrust capacity in both axial directions. Speed reduction gear Speed-reducing gear is generally mounted on the turbine base-plate. The high-speed gears are precision- machined, hardened and ground to achieve long operating-life. Lubricating oil from the lubricatingoil system is used for cooling of gears. 6 MARIM Steam Turbines

The equipment commissioning and performance test are done in accordance with an established procedure. Credited with one of the most responsive and friendly customer-care services by customers, the field service team responds 24/7 to any equipment forced outages. In addition, an adequate spares stock is maintained to cater to any emergency requirement. The qualified and trained team of field technicians and engineers is well equipped to carry out complete package-commissioning, performance-monitoring, maintenance and repair of turbines manufactured internally as well as those of other manufacturers.
