This is a 2 day course designed for auditors and all companies in the supply chain; from palm oil mills to retailers: who purchase, process, manufacture and sell products containing palm oil and palm kernel oil and their derivatives. It is applicable for all sizes of business, managers at all levels, internal auditors, third party auditors and certification body personnel. Competencies of audit teams. One of the specific competencies for RSPO SCC Lead auditors employed by an RSPO approved Certification Body is that they demonstrate successful completion of an RSPO-endorsed RSPO Supply Chain Certification training course. This course is RSPO-endorsed and so provides the route to that specific competency. Training for organizations. The RSPO SCC Standard requires that any organization implementing the RSPO SCC Standard must identify the role of a person who has overall responsibility for the implementation of the RSPO SCC requirements and training must be carried out. This course offers practical training on the implementation of the RSPO SCC requirements. Who needs to be certified? Any organization throughout the supply chain that take legal ownership and physically handles RSPO Certified Sustainable oil palm products at a location under control of the organization including outsourced contractors. After the end product manufacturer there is no further requirement for certification. Traders and distributors who do NOT physically handle RSPO Certified Sustainable oil palm products require a license obtained from the RSPO to sell RSPO certified product but do NOT themselves require certification. The RSPO Supply Chain Certification (RSPO SCC) requirements are presented in 2 documents: o o RSPO Supply Chain Certification Standard. For organizations seeking or holding certification. 2 2. Pre-course reading. All delegates are required to allocate a minimum of 4 hours to read pre-course training material, which includes the following: Understanding accreditation, certification and auditor qualifications. Client application, offer of contract and client preparation in advance of an RSPO SCC audit. Choosing a Certification Body and the application for an offer. Who requires RSPO Supply Chain Certification? Traders and distributors licences. Certification body staff and auditors will also dedicate 30 minutes to answering a multiple choice exam in advance of the course. There is no minimum pass rate but the purpose of this pre-course reading is to ensure a basic level of knowledge. 3. Course content for the Auditors and the Industry. Day 1 covers the origins of crude palm oil and palm kernel, the RSPO SCC Supply Chain Models (IP, SG, MB and BC) and the Modules, which explain how to implement the Models. The RSPO General COC requirements are also fully explained. Practical advice on compliance is given and templates are provided to help with preparation for an RSPO SCC audit. Day 1: This day includes group discussions and practical examples of compliance. Understanding the origins of palm and kernel oil and the complete supply chain. Understanding accreditation, certification and auditor qualifications. Understanding the supply chain models and associated modules. Understanding the audit requirements for each model. Understanding the RSPO General COC requirements. Internal audit requirements. RSPO claims and the use of the RSPO Trademark and Logo. Document templates and audit reports. Day 1 may also be used as refresher course and delegates attending day 1 only will receive a certificate of attendance and will leave the course with a sound understanding of the RSPO Supply Chain Certification requirements. 4. Course content specific for the Certification Bodies and Auditors. The emphasis throughout the course is on professional and competent auditing. Client preparation, auditor competencies and how to run a successful audit are complemented by the practical experience of the course leader and templates. Day 2: o Conducting an audit. Client preparation and audit preparation. o Reporting requirements. o Written examination for RSPO SCC Lead auditors. The written exam will be sent by or circulated to delegates by flash drive immediately prior to the examination. Delegates will answer the questions in word format on their computers and will then either back to the course leader of transfer by flash drive. Exam results will be sent the same day with exemplary answers so that delegates can compare their answers with course leader s answers. Delegates attending days 1 and 2 who sit and pass the final examination, will receive a certificate to certify successful completion of the RSPO endorsed RSPO Supply Chain Certification course. 5. Course outcomes: Delegates should leave with an understanding of: o Context in which the palm oil sector operates, including key sustainability issuers affecting the palm oil sector. o The palm oil supply chain from plantation through to end user. o RSPO Certification Schemes, particularly those related to the: Principles and Criteria. Supply chain of custody and RSPO-RED requirements. o RSPO units of certification. o Certification requirements for differing supply chain models. Page 2

All delegates who demonstrate successful completion of the course by achieving the necessary pass rate for the written examination will receive an individual certificate. 7. Pre-requisites for the course for lead auditors only. Delegates are required to possess the following prerequisites prior to attending this course: Field working experience in similar supply chains, or equivalent related to and as necessary for the certification process. Technical skills and qualifications related to and as necessary for the certification process, like demonstrable relevant experience in other relevant certification schemes. Successful completion of a recognised lead auditor course e.g. a ISO 9000/19011 lead auditor course. 8. 5 12. Quality controls and continuous improvement. This course includes: The most up to date information available from the RSPO. Examples from the extensive experience of the course leader. The RSPO SCC Systems and Standard November 2014 documents are the main reference documents. The course leader ensures that updates are included but also has to rely on the RSPO to inform him of updates. If any person considers the content is lacking then they are requested to inform the course leader immediately. Delegates are requested to complete feed-back forms after each course and their comments will be shared with the RSPO and taken into account in further delivering the course. Examination questions will be changed periodically and the RSPO are invited to give input into exam questions in order to give some consistency between trainers. 13. Examination and delegate assessment. The knowledge and understanding of participants will be assessed through an examination based on fifteen multi choice questions taken from the whole syllabus and four written short answer questions and two long answer questions. To obtain the Certificate of successful completion of auditor training course, candidates will need a mark of at least 60% in the examination. Each question will be allocated a potential maximum number of points and this will be evaluated by the course leader against a standard answer. The course leader will also take into account all delegates participation and role playing in the overall evaluation of compliance. Any delegate achieving a score of between 60% and 50% will be interviewed by the course leader at the end of the course and he will take into account the participation and role playing to determine if the overall mark can be increased to 60%. For any delegates that fail the course, the course leader will determine their weaknesses and will suggest additional reading, individual tuition or attendance at part or all of a new course. That person may sit another exami- nation under controlled conditions as agreed with the course leader. The maximum number of times a delegate may sit examinations by any RSPO endorsed trainers in twice. The course leader will inform the RSPO as to any delegates who have attended but failed the examination so that this information can be shared with other course leaders. Page 5
