3 A Quick Start Guide 1. Recrd the infrmatin abut the unit. (Sectin 2.1) 2. Set the Device COM setting that will be cnnected t PrtNde. (Sectin 2.3.2) 3. Cnnect PrtNde FPC-N34 s 3 pin RS-485 prt t the Field Prtcl cabling (Sectin 3.2), r cnnect PrtNde FPC-N35 s 2 pin LnWrks prt t the Field Prtcl cabling. (Sectin 3.3) 4. Cnnect Pwer t PrtNde s 6 pin cnnectr. (Sectin 3.4) 5. Cnnect a PC t the PrtNde via Ethernet cable and change the IP Address f the PC t the same subnet as the PrtNde. (Sectin 4.1) 6. Set the IP Address f the PrtNde t the subnet f the intended Netwrk and reset IP details f the PC. (Sectin 4.3) 7. Set the BACnet settings via the Web Cnfiguratr GUI. (Sectin 4.3.1) 8. Use the Web Cnfiguratr Discvery functin t cnfigure the PrtNde and t find any light panels cnnected t the Device. (Sectin ) 9. LnWrks (FPC-N35): The PrtNde must be cmmissined n the LnWrks Netwrk. 7 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 PrtNde Gateway PrtNde is an external, high perfrmance Building Autmatin multi-prtcl gateway that is precnfigured t Aut-Discver any f the Eatn-Cper s prducts (hereafter called device ) cnnected t the PrtNde and autmatically cnfigures them fr BACnet 1 MS/TP, BACnet/IP, Mdbus TCP/IP r LnWrks 2. It is nt necessary t dwnlad any cnfiguratin files t supprt the required applicatins. 8 2 BACNET/LONWORKS SETUP FOR PROTOCESSOR PROTONODE FPC- N34/FPC-N Recrd Identificatin Data Each PrtNde has a unique part number lcated n the side r the back f the unit. This number shuld be recrded, as it may be required fr technical supprt. 11 + Eatn-Cper PrtNde Startup Guide 3.2 BACnet MS/TP (FPC-N34): Wiring Field Prt t RS-485 BMS Netwrk Cnnect the BACnet MS/TP RS-485 netwrk wires t the 3-pin RS-485 cnnectr n PrtNde FPC-N34 as shwn belw in Figure 6. The RS-485 GND (Pin 3) is nt typically cnnected. See Sectin 5 fr infrmatin n cnnecting t BACnet/IP netwrk. If the PrtNde is the last device n the BACnet MS/TP, then the End-Of-Line Terminatin Switch needs t be enabled. (Figure 7) The default setting frm the factry is OFF (switch psitin = right side). T enable the EOL Terminatin, turn the EOL switch ON (switch psitin = left side). 12 3.4 Pwer-Up PrtNde Apply pwer t PrtNde as shw belw in Figure 10. Ensure that the pwer supply used cmplies with the specificatins prvided in Appendix C.1. PrtNde accepts either 9-30VDC r VAC n pins 4 and 5. Frame GND shuld be cnnected. 13 4 CONFIGURE THE PROTONODE VIA WEB CONFIGURATOR GUI 4.1 Cnnect the PC t PrtNde via the Ethernet Prt Cnnect a Cat 5 Ethernet cable (Straight thrugh r Crss-Over) between the PC and PrtNde. The Default IP Address f PrtNde is , Subnet Mask is If the PC and PrtNde are n different IP Netwrks, assign a static IP Address t the PC n the xxx netwrk. 14 4.2 Cnnecting t the PrtNde Web Cnfiguratr GUI After setting the PC n the same subnet as the PrtNde (Sectin 4.1), pen a web brwser n the PC and enter the IP Address f the PrtNde; the default address is The Cnfiguratr Web GUI will nw appear when entering the device s IP Address n the brwser. 15 4.3 Set BACnet/IP and Mdbus TCP/IP Address f PrtNde t Same Switch/Ruter f the Device Frm the Web GUI s landing page, click n Netwrk Settings Tab t access the IP Settings menu. (Figure 13) Figure 13: IP Address Settings via Web GUI Enter new IP Address (N1 IP Address field) f the PrtNde Ethernet prt t the same switch r ruter s subnet that the device is cnnected. If necessary, change the Netmask (N1 Netmask field). Type in a new subnet mask. If necessary, change the IP Gateway (Default Gateway field). Type in a new IP Gateway. Reset PrtNde. Cnnect the PrtNde t same switch r ruter that the Device is cnnected. Cnnect the PC t the same switch r ruter and change the IP Address f the PC t be n the same subnet f the Device and the PrtNde. Recrd the IP Address assigned t the PrtNde fr future reference. After setting the PC t be n the same subnet as the PrtNde and the Device, pen a web brwser n the PC and enter the new IP f the PrtNde. 16 4.3.1 Select Netwrk Prtcl Ging back t the Discvery and Cnfiguratin tab, and press BMS Settings buttn t view/ Change the Building Management System (BMS) Settings. Select BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Mdbus TCP/IP, r Mdbus RTU prtcls. Figure 14: BMS settings Windw Page 16 f 60

17 Set Device Instance fr each lighting panel attached t the Device The Device Instance can be set independently f the site administratr. As an example: A Device Instance is a BACnet Nde-ID which is btained by the netwrk administratr. Each lighting panel cnnected t the Device will have its wn BACnet Device Instance. The values allwed fr a BACnet Device Instance can range frm 1 t 4,194,303. With the default BACnet Device Instance value f 50,000 the Device Instances values generated will be within the range f 50,000 plus the incremental number f lighting panels that are cnnected t the PrtNde. The first lighting panel will therefre be 50,000. T assign a specific Device Instance (r range); change the Device instance value t assigned value f the first lighting panel. 18 BACnet MS/TP (FPC-N34): Setting the MAC Address BACnet Netwrk Only 1 MAC address is set fr PrtNde regardless f hw many light panels are cnnected t PrtNde. Set the BACnet MS/TP MAC address f the PrtNde t a value between 1 t 127 (MAC Master Addresses); this is s that the BMS Frnt End can find the PrtNde via BACnet aut discvery. Nte: Never set a BACnet MS/TP MAC Address frm 128 t 255. Addresses frm 128 t 255 are Slave Addresses and can nt be discvered by BMS Frnt Ends that supprt aut discvery f BACnet MS/TP devices. Enter the fllwing details int the web cnfiguratin as per Figure 16 belw: Device Instance Enter a range between 1 and 4,194,303. Name Enter the name f the Device. Lcatin Enter the lcatin f the lighting panel. Device Instance Offset Default f s that Device Instance begins at Netwrk Number Leave as default unless instructed by BMS integratr. 20 4.3.2 Cnfigure the Device n the PrtNde and Autmatically Discver Light Panels Cnnected t the Device Click n the Start Discvery buttn t enter the prt, netwrk address, Panel Address and Number f Panels fr the Device. Figure 19: Start Discvery Fields After entering the Device details, click n the Start Discvery buttn and the discvery prgress bar will display. The discvery f a Device may take a few minutes depending n the number f items it cntains. Figure 20: Discvery Bar Page 20 f 60

21 After the discvery prcess is cmplete, the discvery tree will immediately cme up. The items being marked as green indicate that they have nt been cnfigured fr prtcl cnversin. Figure 21: The Discvery Tree When clicking n gateways r gateways cntaining light panels a tick bx will check r uncheck items fr Prtcl cnversin. 23 Once the items fr cnfiguratin are chsen, click n the Save Cnfiguratin buttn. The save cnfiguratin prgress bar will appear. This prcess may take several minutes. 24 In rder t clear a cnfiguratin, click n the Clear Cnfiguratin buttn. An additinal ptin t clear all ther device cnfiguratins will appear. 25 5 BACNET MS/TP AND BACNET/IP: SETTING NODE_OFFSET TO ASSIGN SPECIFIC DEVICE INSTANCES After setting yur PC t be n the same subnet as the PrtNde (Sectin 4), pen a web brwser n yur PC and enter the IP Address f the PrtNde; the default address is If the IP Address f the PrtNde has been changed by previus cnfiguratin get the assigned IP Address frm the netwrk administratr. The Web Cnfiguratr will be displayed, click BMS Settings. (Figure 29) Nde_Offset field will be presented displaying the current value (default = 50,000). Change the value f the Nde_Offset t establish the desired Device Instance values, then click SUBMIT. Given that: Nde_Offset + Greengate Nde_ID = Device Instance Then: Nde_Offset (required) = Device Instance (desired) Greengate Nde_ID Fr example: Device 1 has a Greengate Nde-ID f 1 Device 2 has a Greengate Nde-ID f 22 Device 3 has a Greengate Nde-ID f 33 Desired Device Instance fr 1 st device = 1,001 Nde_Offset (required) = 1,001 (Greengate Nde_ID) = 1,001 1 = 1,000 The Nde_Offset value will be applied t all devices. 26 6 LONWORKS (FPC-N35): COMMISSIONING PROTONODE ON A LONWORKS NETWORK Cmmissining may nly be perfrmed by the LnWrks administratr. 6.1 Cmmissining PrtNde FPC-N35 n a LnWrks Netwrk The User will be prmpted by the LnWrks Administratr t hit the Service Pin n the PrtNde FPC-N35 at the crrect step f the Cmmissining prcess which is different fr each LnWrks Netwrk Management Tl. If an XIF file is required, see steps in Sectin t generate XIF. If the web brwser prmpts yu t save file, save the file nt the PC. If the web brwser displays the xif file as a web page, save the file n yur PC as fserver.xif. 28 7 CAS BACNET EXPLORER FOR VALIDATING PROTONODE IN THE FIELD PrtCessr has arranged a cmplementary 2 week fully functinal cpy f CAS BACnet Explrer (thrugh Chipkin Autmatin) that can be used t validate BACnet MS/TP and/r BACnet/IP cmmunicatins f PrtNde in the field withut having t have the BMS Integratr n site. A Serial r USB t RS-485 cnverter is needed t test BACnet MS/TP. 7.1 Dwnlading the CAS Explrer and Requesting an Activatin Key T request the cmplementary BACnet CAS key, g t and fill in all the infrmatin. Enter Vendr Cde Eatn2BACnet. Once cmpleted, the address that was submitted will be registered. Figure 32: Dwnlading the CAS Explrer G t the fllwing web site, dwnlad and install the CAS BACnet Explrer t yur PC: Open CAS BACnet Explrer; in the CAS Activatin frm, enter the address that was registered and click n Request a key. 29 7.2 CAS BACnet Setup These are the instructins t set CAS Explrer up fr the first time n BACnet MS/TP and BACnet/IP CAS BACnet MS/TP Setup Using the Serial r USB t RS-485 cnverter, cnnect it t yur PC and the 3 Pin BACnet MS/TP cnnectr n PrtNde FPC-N34.
