6 Lines Optimization for a TEU Container Vessel Operational life 25 years, price per ton fuel 600 US-Dollar RT / RT Baseline 24 kn, 14 m/14 m Each single red cross represents a full hull design and analysis approx in total 127,000,000 US-Dollar 72,000,000 US-Dollar 29,500,000 US-Dollar V/V Baseline No. 6 / Baseline 14 m/14 m The numbers in US-Dollars shows three different designs at the same displacement (100%) and the same speed (24 knots), which differ by resistance (lines optimization is done to reduce resistance), thus by the required power, i.e. by the fuel consumption, and the numbers give the additional amount of money the operator has to spend in 25 years at a price of fuel of 600 US$, on top of that to spend for the optimum design, which lies on the bottom border of the red cloud In other words, the US$ show the penalty the operator is charged by choosing the displayed designs instead of searching for the optimum on the above shown pareto-frontier.
