7 Introduction The aim of the test methods described in this document is to keep human influence on the test results to a minimum, thus improving reproducibility. 5

8 1 Scope This document applies to cylinders for locks normally used in buildings, which are designed to be used with cylinders. This document specifies performance and other requirements for the strength, security, durability, performance and corrosion resistance of cylinders and their original keys. It establishes one category of use, three categories of durability, two categories each for fire and corrosion resistance all based on performance tests as well as six grades of key related security based on design requirements and three grades on performance tests that simulate attack. This document includes tests of satisfactory operation at temperatures between - 20 C and + 80 C. It specifies test methods to be used on cylinders and their protective measures linked with these cylinders and recommended by the manufacturer. Corrosion resistance is specified by reference to the requirements of the European Standard EN 1670 on the protection of corrosion for locks and building hardware, see annex B. The suitability of cylinders for use on fire or smoke-door assemblies is determined by fire performance tests conducted in addition to the performance testing required by this standard. Since suitability for use on fire doors is not essential in every situation, the manufacturer has the option to state if the cylinder conforms to these additional requirements or not. Unless otherwise specified cylinders shall conform to the requirements specified in the relevant European Standard EN or pren , see annex A. Assessment of fire resistance of grade 1 doors is beyond the scope of this document. On occasions there may be a need for additional functions within the design of the cylinder. Purchasers should satisfy themselves that the products are suitable for their intended use. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. 30 Annex E (informative) Standard test cycle Referring to the clause 5.3, to grant the reproducibility and the objectiveness of the durability test results, the test apparatus (see figure C.1) shall be able to assure the following controls: 1) The machine for the cycle test should be equipped with an emergency device, which stops it if the force of inserting and withdrawing the key reaches 10 N, or a force recommended by the manufacturer. When the machine stops all the forces and torque applied to the key and to the cam shall be removed. 2) The machine for the cycle test should be equipped with an emergency device, which stops it if the torque for key rotation reaches 1.5 Nm, or as recommended by the manufacturer. When the machine stops all the forces and torque applied to the key and to the cam have to be removed. 3) Removal of the resistive torque applied on the cam. The resistive torque applied to the cam shall not be applied before the key is inserted in the cylinder or before the key is withdrawn from the cylinder. The resistive torque shall not be applied before an angle of 15 from the position of the key extraction. 4) Machine pauses. Between the end of key insertion in the cylinder and the beginning of the key rotation and between the end of key rotation and the beginning of the key withdrawal the test machine shall pause for minimum 0.2 sec. 5) Flexible key guide device A flexible key guide device should be used to minimise friction with the plug. 6) Maximum speed for inserting and withdrawing the key. The maximum speed for inserting and withdrawing the key should not exceed 50mm/s. 7) Maximum speed of key rotation The maximum speed of key rotation should not exceed 60 rpm. 28
