With respect to prime movers (e.g. diesel engine or gas turbine): 1.a. to explain: * characteristics * construction types * ideal process models and actual processes * turbo charging 1.b. to calculate: * power, torque, efficiency, bmep, bsfc, etc. 1.c. to apply: * basic thermodynamics (p-v and T-s diagrams, energy flows, etc.). With respect to transmission systems and propulsors (e.g. propeller).a. to explain: * different lay-outs of transmission systems * reasons to apply fixed pitch or controllable pitch propeller.b. to derive: * propeller load characteristic from ship resistance.c. to match: * prime mover to propulsor 3. With respect to electric power generation systems 3.a. to explain: * layout and main components * main and secondary electric power supply 4.
