7 Hunts Point Peninsula Background HP Food Distribution Center is one of the largest in the world and supplier of meat, fish and produce to the entire tri-state area. Supplies 60% of City s food consumption. 22% of the region s food consumption Provides affordable access to fresh produce, especially to independent grocers and restaurants in the City. Origin or Destination for approx. 15,000 truck trips per day. 7

8 NYC s Transportation Emissions Transportation: ~30% of NYC GHG emissions Private vehicles: 84% of transportation emissions Registered vehicles: 74k commercial vehicles registered (2016) Trucks and buses within NYC account for the largest share of on-road mobile attributable ambient PM2.5 and are associated with 170 PM2.5-attributable deaths each year. (Kheirbek I., et al, 2016 ) 8
