1 RULES FOR CLASSIFICATION OF Ships MAIN CHANGES JANUARY 2013 General A complete list of current rule chapters including revision dates is presented in Pt.0 Ch.1 Sec.2. The listing below contains only chapters that are new, deleted or changed in this revision of the rules. Part 0 Chapter 1 USER INFORMATION, CURRENT RULE CHAPTERS AND INDEX Main changes Sec.2 Current Rule Chapters Table 1 Current rule chapters has been updated with the correct revision dates. Part 1 Chapter 1 GENERAL REGULATIONS Main changes coming into force 1 January 2013 Sec.3 Retention of Class C101 and C102: Text regarding endorsement of class certificate has been amended. C201: New Guidance note added. Sec.4 Certification of Materials, Components and Systems Item B101 has been amended to include the new EU-RO type approval certificates. Sec.1 Classification Principles A200: Definitions Alteration and Conversion added. Sec.3 Retention of Class B504: A new item regarding emergency repair has been added. B601 has been amended and includes now previous B602. Part 1 Chapter 2 CLASS NOTATIONS Sec.1 Class Notations Table B4 has been amended. Table B5 has been amended. The class notation Safelash has been moved from Table C1 to Table C2. In Table C2, the class notation REGAS has been amended. The class notation PC has been moved from Table C1 to Table C3. In Table C6 the class notation IB has been amended and the class notation COAT with qualifiers 1 and 2 has been removed and can be found in Sec.2, Table A1 Class notations currently in use which are not covered by this edition of Sec.1. Part 2 Chapter 2 METALLIC MATERIALS General IACS URs W24 and W25 have been implemented. General updating to be in line with
2 Page 2 other Classification Societies rules has been performed. Added temper condition H111 for rolled aluminium alloys. Sec.1 Rolled Steel for Boilers, Pressure Vessels and Special Applications A406: Fine grain elements requirements introduced. A508: Delivery condition deviations documentation requirements addressed. B201 and tables B2, B3 and Table B4 have been amended. Tables C3 and C4 have been amended. D301 and Table D1 have been amended. Sec.2 Rolled steel for boilers, pressure vessels and special applications A300 to A1200, all text in E100 to E700 and F100 to F300 in previous edition have been relocated. Sec.4 Steel Pipes A101 has been amended. Sec.5 Steel Forgings A906: Guidance note has been amended. B101 and tables B2 and C2 have been amended. E602: Fig.5 Pinion and Fig.7 Gear rim (made by expanding) have been amended. Sec.7 Steel Castings A303 and A304 have been amended. A504: Guidance note has been amended. A905: Fig.1 Shape of indications has been introduced. A1006 and A1008 have been amended. B101 has been amended. Table D2 has been amended. Sec.9 Aluminium Alloys A901 and A902 have been amended. Table A2: Introduction of temper condition H111 for rolled aluminium alloys. Table A3 has been amended. Sec.10 Copper Alloy Castings New item A602 and Fig.1 Test sample casting has been introduced. A801 has been amended. C201 has been amended. Table C1 has been amended. Sec.11 Non-Ferrous Tubes A102 has been amended. Part 2 Chapter 3 FABRICATION AND TESTING OF SHIP STRUCTURES Sec.8 Structural and Tightness Testing Completely revised in order to comply with IACS UR S14 Rev 4, Aug Part 3 Chapter 1 HULL STRUCTURAL DESIGN, SHIPS WITH LENGTH 100 METRES AND ABOVE Items C105 to C108 deleted due to deletion of Class Notation COAT-1 and COAT-2.
3 Page 3 Sec.3 Design Principles Figure references updated. Sec.15 Special Requirements - Additional Class E702: a new Figure 4 has been inserted. E703: accept criteria for ultimate hull girder capacity has been amended. Sub-section D: Deletion of Class Notation COAT-1 and COAT-2, which is made historic. As a consequence, Class Notation CSA is moved from sub-section E to D. Sub-section F Class Notation COAT-PSPC(X) has been deleted and moved to Pt.6 Ch.31. Part 3 Chapter 3 HULL EQUIPMENT AND SAFETY Sec.2 Sternframes, Rudders and Steering An IACS reference was added to G405. Sec.3 Anchoring and Mooring Equipment Table G1 in G301 has been corrected. Sec.6 Openings and closing appliances In A General, the following amendments have been made: Table A1 has been reformatted to comply with the template for documentation requirements. The documentation requirement given by K402 has been included in the table. The additional description related to the freeboard plan has been deleted. Table A2 has been reformatted to comply with the template for certification requirements. Part 4 Chapter 1 MACHINERY SYSTEMS, GENERAL Main changes App.A Tentative function based rules for machinery systems, General Sec.1 Introduction A100: Application Requirements for bilge and ballast have been removed. A200: Safety philosophy, A202: Requirement for vessel in transit removed. B100: Information for assessment, B105: A more detailed description of the engineering analysis to be carried out in order to document compliance with the rules has been introduced. C100: Terms - General, C108: Restoration times after failure have been changed to be in line with the prescriptive Pt.4 Ch.1 level. Sec.2 General System Requirements A200: Availability, The requirements for main functions propulsion, steering and electrical power generation have been revised. D100: External conditions have been removed. Sec.3 Main Functions - Requirements B: Main functions The requirements for main functions propulsion, steering and electrical power generation have been revised. Part 4 Chapter 3 ROTATING MACHINERY, DRIVERS Sec.2 Gas turbines Adapted standardised formulation of certification and documentation requirements. The section is totally rearranged and some topics have been renamed.
4 Page 4 Part 4 Chapter 4 ROTATING MACHINERY, POWER TRANSMISSION General This rule update relates to: Running condition has been included for shafting arrangements with aft stern tube bearing diameter above 500 mm and special designs and with warm static condition for shafting other arrangements. New running condition requirement for lubrication calculation in aft stern tube bearing. Calculation of minimum shaft speed shall be able to ensure an oil film separating shaft and bearing. Viscosity requirements to the lubricant have been introduced. Changed requirements regarding hydrodynamic propeller loads running condition. More focus on sighting process; ovality, straightness and slope with tolerances. Differentiating between local (stern tube sighting) and global (jacking, gap & sag) effects. High temperature alarm during NB trials shall initiate further investigation. Introducing alternative methods for monitoring of water in stern tube bearing lubricating oil. Sec.1 Shafting Previous items A301 has been split in A301 and A302 and previous item A302 has been deleted. Item A305 has been amended. Items A402 and A403 have been amended. B900 Shaft bearings, dimensions has been completely rewritten. Item E302 has been amended to include oil sample tested by laboratory as acceptable alternative to onboard test kit. F400 Shaft alignment has been completely rewritten. Two new items, H301 and H302 have been added. The previous items H301 and H302 have been amended and renumbered and a Guidance Note has been added. Item I101 has been amended and a Guidance Note has been added. Part 4 Chapter 5 ROTATING MACHINERY, DRIVEN UNITS Sec.4 Compressors In E100, Table E1: System/Item 2.0, alternative to pressure alarm has been introduced. System/Item 3.0, requirement for Alarm for high value, has been removed. Part 4 Chapter 6 PIPING SYSTEMS Sec.3 Design Principles A200 and A300: Requirements for operation of valves and fitting of overboard valves on ship side has been clarified A400: Fittings of watertight bulkheads revised to be in accordance with SOLAS requirements. Sec.4 Ship Piping Systems D100 and D200: Drainage of cargo decks revised in accordance with SOLAS requirements H502: Requirements to Bilge pipes through tanks and holds have been updated K100: Air pipe requirements clarified K500 and K600: Sounding pipe requirements have been clarified.
5 Page 5 Sec.5 Ship Piping System D308: Requirement for design pressure of fuel oil systems revised to comply with IACS UR P1.2.7 D400 and D500: Requirements for valves on fuel oil tanks clarified. Sec.7 Pipes, Pumps, Valves, Flexible Hoses and Detachable Pipe Connections etc. D100 and D200: Requirements for Flexible hoses updated in line with IACS UR P2.12. Sec.8 Manufacture, Workmanship, Inspection and Testing In subsection element A100 General : Clarification when WPQT is required and A105 have been deleted. A504: Reference to Classification notes No.7 has been included Items A506 to A508 regarding non-conforming weldments have been revised/ added to be in line with Pt.2 Ch.3 Sec.7 E200 C202 Cold bending, has been revised in accordance with EFN from Norway and China. Part 5 Chapter 1 SHIPS FOR NAVIGATION IN ICE Sec.3 Ice Strengthening for the Northern Baltic D402: Minimum required web thickness 2.5% of the frame spacing for transverse frames has been introduced (Ref. FS ice rules ). Part 5 Chapter 3 OIL CARRIERS Amendment January 2013 A new item A102 has been added. Part 5 Chapter 4 CHEMICAL CARRIERS A new item A102 has been added and subsequent items have been renumbered. Part 5 Chapter 5 LIQUEFIED GAS CARRIERS A new item A102 has been added and subsequent items have been renumbered. Items A104, A202 and A203 have been amended and previous item A204 has been deleted. Subsection C Documentation has been completely rewritten. Subsection F Emergency Towing has been moved from Sec.2 F100. Sec.2 Materials and Hull Structure A new subsection F Certification of Components has been added.
6 Page 6 Part 5 Chapter 7 OFFSHORE SERVICE VESSELS, TUGS AND SPECIAL SHIPS Sec.19 Cable Laying Vessels A300 and Sub-section D: Documentations requirements have been updated. Sec.20 Pipe Laying Vessels A300 and Sub-section D: Documentations requirements have been updated. Sec.24 Seismographic Research Vessels Table C1 - Certification requirements has been clarified. Part 5 Chapter 11 CARRIAGE OF DANGEROUS GOODS Sec.2 Requirements for Carriage of Dangerous Goods in Various Types of Cargo Spaces Table D1: Ventilation requirement for Silicomanganese has been reintroduced. Part 5 Chapter 14 NAVAL AND NAVAL SUPPORT VESSELS Sec.12 Safe Evacuation of Personnel The title of Sub-section A has been changed. A new A500 Documentation requirements, has been added. Part 6 Chapter 1 MISCELLANEOUS NOTATIONS Sec.2 Helicopter Installations New item A402, clarification of requirements regarding extent of press weld testing has been added. Part 6 Chapter 12 ENVIRONMENTAL CLASS Sec.3 Class Notation CLEAN DESIGN Sub-section element C1100 Stern tube bearing lubricants and seal design has been revised to clarify the technologies which can be used. In item E101, the reference to Guidelines Resolution MEPC. 179(59) has been changed to MEPC. 197(62). Part 6 Chapter 13 GAS FUELLED SHIP INSTALLATIONS Main changes coming into force 1 January 2013 Sec.4 Fire Safety The requirement in Sec.4 E to spark arrestors (introduced in January 2010) has been removed due to the following: Combustion of gas produces a very clean exhaust gas virtually free from particles. Spark arrestors for large diameter exhaust outlets are currently not available in the maritime industry. The draft IGF Code does not have a requirement for spark arrestors.
7 Page 7 Part 6 Chapter 30 REGASIFICATION This is a new document. The rules come into force 1 July Part 6 Chapter 31 COATING This is a new document. This document replaces previous Pt.3 Ch.1 Sec.15 F - edition July The rules come into force 1 July Part 7 Chapter 1 SURVEY REQUIREMENTS Sec.1 General requirements A103 Combination carriers, Added: Note: ORE/OIL- and OIL/BULK/ORE carriers that do not comply with MARPOL I/19 may be subject to International and/or National Regulations requiring phase out. (IACS UR Z11). A104 Oil tanker, Added: Note: Oil Tankers that do not comply with MARPOL I/19 may be subject to International and/or National Regulations requiring phase out under MARPOL I/20 and/or MARPOL I/21. (IACS UR Z11) Table A1 Survey schedules for optional class notations: Class notation COAT- PSPC added. B101: Semi-hard coating has been included. Sec.2 Annual survey A203: Manual with instructions for operation and/ or maintenance shall be verified for protected coating for dedicated seawater ballast tanks, double-side skin spaces and void spaces (including ships with class notation COAT-PSPC) added. B104: More detailed survey requirements added. Ref. IACS Z24. Sec.3 Intermediate survey B103: and tanks used as bilge water holding tanks shall be carried out deleted. B106: except bilge water holding tanks, deleted. Sec.4 Renewal survey B108 d: examination of doors to be supported by thickness measurements added. B113: Tanks used as bilge water holding tanks shall be overall examined deleted. B116: except bilge water holding tanks deleted. Table B1, Table B2, D3.1, D4.1, D4.1.1, D7.1 and D7.2: Minor corrections / modification. Sec.5 Bottom Survey A503: the cleanliness of the hull below the waterline is to be clear enough to permit a meaningful examination of the plating, appendages and the welding added. Sec.6 Optional Class Notation Surveys I106 and I107 have been merged in order to avoid misinterpretation. Sec.7 Optional Class Notation Surveys (continued) New subsection L Regasification Plants, REGAS. Sec.8 Alternative Survey Arrangements B101: For ships 5 to 10 years of age: representative ballast tanks selected by the surveyor added.
