2 Table 1.1 Imports classified by country of origin: Top 10 Countries in US$ The import bill in the fourth quarter of 2014 was US$1.72 billion. South Africa accounted for 43% of the import bill in period under review. Singapore in a distant second accounted for 19.4% followed by China with 5.8% while the other countries completing the list of the top five sources of Zimbabwe s imports were Botswana (3%) and India with 2.5%. Table 2.1 Exports classified by country of destination: Top 10 Countries in US$ Total exports in the fourth quarter of 2014 amounted to US$1.02 billion. Zimbabwean exports in the fourth quarter of 2014 continued to land mostly in South Africa. The southernmost country on the continent, which shares a border with Zimbabwe, received more than two thirds (72.7%) of the value of total exports. In second place was Mozambique with15% followed by United Arab Emirates (3%), Zambia and Belgium being tied on the bottom of top five sources of foreign currency from exports with 2.6%. Table 1.2 Imports by HS Code: Top 10 products by value in US$ Diesel and unleaded petrol accounted for about 20.8% of total imports for the fourth quarter of These products were followed by Nickel mattes (1.9%), broken rice in bulk >=25kg (1.8%) and ammonium nitrate (1.6 %) Table 2.2 Total exports by HS Code: Top 10 products by value in US$ The largest percentage share (38.8%) of total exports was of flue-cured tobacco of the Virginia type partly or wholly stemmed/stripped. Semi-manufactured gold (incl. gold plated with platinum), non-monetary(14%) was in second place followed by nickel ores and concentrates (8.5%), Ferro-chromium, containing by weight >4% carbon (6.6%) and other cane sugar not containing added flavouring or colouring matter (4%). i

3 Table 1.3 Imports classified by SITC sections: US$ Most of the fourth quarter import bill went towards mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (24.3%), machinery and transport equipment (23.4%), chemicals (17.1%), manufactured goods classified chiefly by material (11.6%) and food and live animals (10.8%).These commodity groups also held the major shares of the total import bills in the third quarter of Table 2.3 Exports classified by SITC sections: US$ Traditional major shareholder of Zimbabwe s export earnings, beverages and tobacco contributed 42.9% of total export earnings in the period under review. Manufactured goods classified chiefly by material contributed the second largest percentage of 16.9%, followed by crude materials excluding fuels (16.7%) and commodities and transactions not classified elsewhere in the SITC (14%). while food and live animals accounted for 6% to total export earnings in the period under review. ii
