2 New Trax continued from page 1 1.4L 4-Cylinder Turbo The only available engine is a turbocharged 1.4L 4-cylinder engine (RPO LUV) that features a cast-iron block and an aluminum cylinder head. It has double overhead cams, variable valve timing and four valves per cylinder. With a compression ratio of 9.5:1, the engine provides 138 hp at 4900 rpm and 148 lb-ft of torque between 1,850 and 4,900 rpm. The EPA-estimated fuel economy is 26 mpg city, 34 mpg highway (FWD) or 24 mpg city, 31 mpg highway (AWD). Regular unleaded fuel is recommended. All Trax models use an electronically controlled, automatic overdrive 6-speed 6T40 transaxle with an electronically controlled torque converter clutch. RPO MH8 is used on the front-wheel drive (FWD) model and RPO MHB is used on the 1.4L 4-cylinder engine (RPO LUV) all-wheel drive (AWD) model. DEXRON -VI automatic transmission fluid should be used in both transmissions. The AWD system, available on all trim levels, provides extra traction and maneuverability. The automatically engaging system seamlessly splits torque between the front and rear wheels when required, for better traction and handling. When it isn t needed, the AWD system automatically shifts into FWD to maximize efficiency. Steering and Suspension A MacPherson strut front suspension is used with coil-over springs, a direct-acting large stabilizer bar, and side-load-compensated front strut modules with a steel 6-point rigid attachment front cross member. The rear suspension features a compound crank (torsion beam) design, with a double-wall, tubular V-shape beam profile and gascharged twin-tube shocks, that combines all the advantages of a conventional torsion beam axle, including minimal space requirements, with low weight and consistent camber control. Noise-damping urethane spring isolators dampen noise. FWD and AWD models feature a rack-and-pinion gear (straight ratio) with a direct-acting, column-mounted electric power steering system that helps save fuel by drawing energy only when the steering wheel is turned. The FWD Trax has antilock brakes (ABS) with front disc brakes with ventilated rotors and rear drum brakes. The AWD Trax has ABS with four-wheel disc brakes with ventilated front rotors and solid rear rotors. Brake features include electronic brake force distribution as well as cornering brake control and brake assist. Electronic brake force distribution optimizes the distribution of force to each of the four wheels during braking while driving through turns, depending on the radius of the turn. The StabiliTrak electronic stability control system incorporates traction control and rollover mitigation features. The body structure of the Trax forms a protective cage around the passenger compartment, with 66 percent of it composed of highstrength steels, including ultrahigh-strength steel in strategic areas. It also features a class-best 10 standard air bags. Wheel Options The LS FWD model uses 16 x 6.5-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. The LS AWD model and LT model use 16 x 6.5-inch aluminum wheels. Trax has 10 standard air bags. The LTZ model uses 18 x 7-inch aluminum wheels. P205/70R16 ALS and P215/55R18 AL3 tires are used, depending on wheel size. The tire pressure monitor 16-inch and 18-inch wheels are available. system (TPMS) uses radio and sensor technology to check tire pressure levels. The TPMS sensors monitor the air pressure in the tires and transmit tire pressure readings to a receiver located in the vehicle. Infotainment Technology Standard technology includes the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with a 7-inch (178-mm) diagonal color touch screen, with a Rear Vision Camera (RVC) and 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. 4G LTE with the built-in Wi-Fi hotspot enables the connection of up to seven multiple personal devices such as smartphones, laptops and tablets to high-speed wireless Internet. The hotspot is on whenever the vehicle is on Standard equipment includes the MyLink system with a 7-inch diagonal color touch screen and Rear Vision Camera. and comes with a three-month/three-gigabyte data trial (whichever comes first). The system includes Bluetooth streaming audio for music and select phone, as well as Pandora, TuneIn radio and Stitcher. Other infotainment features Siri Eyes Free for iphone ios 6, ios 7 and ios 8 users, which enables voice-controlled connectivity so customers can keep phones stored and their hands on the wheel. continued on page 3 2 February 2015

3 New Trax continued from page 2 The available BringGo app brings smartphone-enabled navigation that can be displayed on the large MyLink screen, and allows using the touch screen to control the navigation. The MyLink system offers several available apps. Electrical Power Management The vehicle has electrical power management that estimates the battery's temperature and state-of-charge. Electrical power management adjusts the voltage for best performance and extended life of the battery. When the battery's state-ofcharge is low, the voltage is raised slightly to quickly bring the state-of-charge back up. When the state-of-charge is high, the voltage is lowered slightly to prevent overcharging. If the vehicle has a voltmeter gauge or a voltage display on the Driver Information Center (DIC), the driver may see the voltage move up or down. This is normal. Electrical power management works to prevent excessive discharge of the battery. It does this by balancing the generator's output and the vehicle's electrical needs. It can increase engine idle speed to generate more power, whenever needed. It can temporarily reduce the power demands of some accessories. Normally, these actions occur in steps or levels, without being noticeable. At the highest levels of corrective action, this action may be noticeable to the driver. Special Tools The following tools were released for the 2015 Trax: DT Transmission Adapter Plate Bushing Replacer DT Input Shaft Seal Installer DT Spline Protector-IDS Shaft Seal at Right Ext Housing DT IDS Excluder Seal Installation into IDS Flange Thanks to Ange Girolamo Identifying Aftermarket Calibrations before Warranty Repairs When alterations to GM engine or transmission control module calibrations are made by owners, it subjects powertrain and driveline components (the engine, transmission, transfer case, driveshaft and rear axle) to stresses that were not tested by GM. These unknown stresses have the potential to alter reliability, durability and emissions performance. GM is identifying an increasing number of engine, transmission and catalytic converter part failures due to non-gm aftermarket calibrations. As a result, GM has adopted a policy that prevents any unauthorized warranty transaction submissions to any remaining warranty coverage to the powertrain and driveline components whenever the presence of a non-gm calibration is confirmed, even if the non-gm control module calibration is subsequently removed. TIP: GM requires retrieving the calibration information and performing the calibration verification procedure whenever a hard part failure may have occurred on internal engine components before disassembly, repair or replacement of an engine assembly under warranty. It is also strongly recommended that the calibration verification procedure be performed whenever diagnostics indicate that transmission, transfer case, rear axle or catalytic converter replacement is needed. If a non-gm calibration is found and verification has taken place through GM, the remaining powertrain and driveline warranty may be blocked and notated in Global Warranty Management (GWM) and the dealership will be notified. This block prevents any unauthorized warranty claim submission. Verification Procedures Refer to the following GM Bulletins for the procedures to identify the presence of non-gm/aftermarket calibrations. Bulletin # Subject Models Identifying Non-GM (Aftermarket) Engine Calibrations for Gasoline Engines Using Tech 2 or GDS Information for Identifying Non-GM ECM Calibration Use and Power-up Hardware Detection in Duramax Diesel Engines Photograph Tech 2 Screens Identifying Non-GM ECM Calibration Use and Powerup Hardware Detection in Duramax Diesel Engines Using GDS 2 Screen Shots Correct GM calibrations must be confirmed with a picture or screen shot of the proper calibration verification screen. The shots are required in order to process an engine/transmission/drivetrain hard part warranty transaction. Refer to the applicable service bulletin for the specific vehicle being repaired for information on how to retrieve and save the required Tech 2 or GDS 2 screen shots before disassembly or removal of engine/transmission/drivetrain components from the vehicle.
