9 PLUG-IN 12V system PLUG-IN is a 12V system consisting of LUMINAIRES with plugs and BASES with jacks. The concept of a reversible plug connection with almost unlimited technical and design combinations gives the planner and user a high degree of flexibility and the ability to adapt to variable or changing lighting requirements. 11 After it is plugged into the jack, the luminaire is protected against loosening by mechanically securing the knurled sleeve; for spotlights this assures precise turning adjustment. The coaxial feed for the pendant luminaires has a standard length of 6.6ft / 2m and can be shortened locally at the plug-in. 25 DIALIGHT is a projector spotlight consisting of polished stainless steel foil. Standard slides can be used. The adjustable lense focuses the motive. A standard-framed, glass-covered slide with kissing lips motive and a lamp with narrow beam angle are supplied with the luminaire. 65 READY FOR TAKE OFF 12V Track system READY FOR TAKE OFF is a mono track system in rectangular format measuring 0.7 x 0.3 / 17 x 8mm. In their upright assembly the two glue-bonded square-type tubes attain a very high level of stability. All system components can be joined simply and without tools. The track connectors are equipped with springcage fins and ensure a secure connection up to a max. load of 300VA. 85 GALLERY ILLUMINATION An especially advantageous use of READY FOR TAKE OFF is wall track mounting for gallery lighting. Special system components for this purpose can be found in the TECHNIC chapter ( 96); they are used to hang artwork and illuminate it. This type of lighting artfully showcases the exhibits and creates a pleasant lighting ambiance with architectural accents. Due to the petite design of the luminaires, the attachment of optional accessories may cause a minor descent of the luminaire head. This does not influence the function of the luminaire. 86 In lighting galleries, it might be desirable to focus the light on the exhibits without back illumination. The silver-coated REFLECTO lamps are available for this purpose. They only emit light in the direction of focus. A similar effect can be achieved by using conventional multi-reflector lamps fitted with an additional glass shade. 95 BEAUTY FREE is a chandelier that can be created with system components of the READY FOR TAKE OFF track system. A symbiosis of modern technology and pure classic design. The standard production chandeliers have diameters of 35.5 / 900mm or 47.3 / 1200mm and consist of the three key technical components: Transformer including suspensions, track circle and desired spotlights. The metal disks of BEL-AIR are finely made by hand and covered in sheet gold or sheet silver. The TUBE-L affixed to the structure focuses the light without glare on the dished and lifelike surfaces of the disks. 277 TECHNIC TRANSFORMER 12V systems are pursued with a transformer. The transformer reduces the input voltage of 120 volts to a secure small voltage of 12 volts. There are two categories of transformers for different installation options, each as electronic or magnetic transformer. Installation must be in accordance with local electrical codes. REMOTE TRANSFORMERS Magnetic transformer, remote / build-in Electronic transformer, remote / build-in Remote transformers should be installed in an accessible location. OLIGO s class 2 magnetic remote transformers are equipped with an unique multitap voltage terminal circuit board. This feature allows you to have the correct voltage at the load and to utilize one, two, three or all of the taps at once. For special installation conditions are smaller electronic transformer available. Please use the voltage drop table below to size wire from remote transformer to power feed canopies. SURFACE MOUNT TRANSFORMERS The surface mount transformer is made to mount on a standard 4 electrical box. OLIGO s surface mount transformers are designed to fit and compliment all of their low voltage systems. The transformers can be mounted directly above or beside the system with several available feed options for your preference. Magnetic transformer, surface mounted Electronic transformer, surface mounted CLASS 2 WIRING Class 2 remote mount transformer max. 60W per secondary circuit max. 60W / 5A per feed cable The National Electrical Code (NEC) limits Class 2 wiring to 30 Volts or less. The code further limits 12V to 5A or 60VA. Most local building codes do allow Class 2 wiring. The benefit to Class 2 wiring is that it does not require conduit. In some cases this allows for a far simpler installation. The NEC requires that Class 1 wiring (all wiring above 30V i.e. the primary wiring) be physically separated from the Class 2 wiring in its own space. Class 2 transformers are built in accordance to that and also have 5A circuit breakers dedicated for each wiring run. For example a 12V, 300W transformer could have five 5A circuit breakers for five separately run 50W loads (50W lamp load at 12V equals 4.2A).
