5 AIR TECHNOLOGIES Air Technologies is not only a byword for eco-friendliness. It means more than just effi ciency, and more than just saving money. Air Technologies are an array of solutions designed and developed by Fiat to improve your driving experience. TwinAir, second-generation MultiJet, MultiAir, Start&Stop, eco:drive, Dualogic gearbox, Blue&Me TomTom LIVE: these technologies, all shaped from simple, light, transparent ideas, are available right now. Two cylinders which deliver like four: this is the magic of the engine that won the prestigious Engine of the Year 2011 award and is the very best example of the downsizing concept that is characterising so many Fiat innovations. This engine, combined with a 6 speed gearbox makes Punto more respectful of the environment (98 g/km of CO 2 ) yet great to drive at the same time (85 HP at 5500 rpm). With a Dual Mass Flywheel, the vibrations and noise of the TwinAir engine are minimised and running is smooth. 6 Patented by Fiat, this innovative electro-hydraulic valve control system guarantees direct, dynamic air and combustion management. In this manner, in addition to a more responsive engine, power is boosted by 10%, low-rpm torque is improved by 15% and consumption and emissions are reduced by 10%. Second evolution of the Common Rail system, this engine ensures better fuel injection management, with injections increased from 5 to 8 in each cycle. Even quieter than the previous version, it allows savings of up to 3% in fuel and a reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions of as much as 20%. The 85 HP MultiJet is packed with new technologies (Intelligent Alternator and Intelligent Flow) and reaches record-breaking low emissions of only 90 g/km of CO 2. START&STOP This innovative, effi cient system stops the engine of your car when you are standing at the lights or in traffi c and starts it again instantly when you set off. But it does so intelligently: the system recognises intermittent queues and automatically turns itself off. It turns itself back on after you reach a speed of 6 mph. The smart alternator automatically recharges the battery of your car when you brake to decrease engine load and fuel consumption.
