THE ESSENCE OF VITRA A HISTORY OF INNOVATION VitrA s rich heritage can be traced back to 1909, when renowned Turkish pharmacist Süleyman Ferit Eczacıbaşı began producing bathing and cologne products

3 THE ESSENCE OF VITRA A HISTORY OF INNOVATION VitrA s rich heritage can be traced back to 1909, when renowned Turkish pharmacist Süleyman Ferit Eczacıbaşı began producing bathing and cologne products at his pharmacy in Izmir. Thirty years on, his son Dr Nejat Eczacıbaşı continued the family s flair for innovation by establishing a pharmaceutical laboratory in Istanbul. This business grew rapidly and in 1952 he opened the first Turkish modern pharmaceutical plant. Within the decade Eczacıbaşı s vision had grown to encompass ceramic sanitaryware and in 1958 he created the first centre for its production in Turkey. VitrA was born.
