2 An Australian Company Established 1890 Ready Reckoner A step-by-step Guide to Sliding Door Track Selection The 2 most important considerations for correct door track selection is the weight of your door and the width of your door. By ensuring the track you choose is suitable for the weight and width of your door you will have a starting point to selecting the best track for your needs. Once you have ascertained your door weight and size there are several other factors and features you should consider in order to decide which door track is most suited to your particular context of use. These include: TRACK FIXING DOOR USE NOISE DOOR LOCATION LIMITED SPACE AESTHETICS - Will your track be wall mounted or top mounted? Be aware of fixing points and any obstructions before coitting to a fixing type. - Is your doorway a high traffic area subject to constant use? Upgrading to a heavier system can greatly increase the life of your door track. - Looking to keep the sliding noise to a minimum - kids bedroom, ensuite? Enclosed aluminium tracks are far less noisy than open steel tracks. - Is humidity or dust a concern? Enclosed tracks offer a much greater resistance to the build up of dirt and dust. - Will you have limited access to install your door? Top mount and enclosed tracks are easier to install in limited space areas. - Do you simply want a track that looks good? Enclosed tracks are much more appealing and may be painted to suit decor, or you may prefer a pelmeted wall fix track. 3 H.M. Cowdroy ABN H.M. Cowdroy Pty Ltd is a history making company that was first formed in 1890 as an advertising agency. Since that time H.M. Cowdroy has created history a number of times by producing many FIRSTS in several fields of endeavour. These include, the first illustrated advertisement in the Sydney Morning Herald and the WORLD'S FIRST sliding glass aluminium track, the latter being an invention that changed the direction of the company and put it on the fast track to leadership in the Australian Hardware Industry. Both of these firsts continue to play an extremely large part in today's life. H.M. Cowdroy's other major inventions include the highly successful ball bearing sliding glass track, a sashless sliding window and a sliding door track system featuring ball bearings on a top race section, which was patented and sold under manufacturing licence around the world. H.M. Cowdroy also produced the Starline Showcase. This innovative, ahead-of-it's-time aluminium and glass design was a major breakthrough and was an instant success in the shopfitting market. As a direct result of the success of the Starline Showcase, Cowdroys decided to create a special division, within the company, to manufacture and supply products specifically to service the shopfitting industry. This division remains a force in the market today. In 1984, after outgrowing the original 2 premises in Sydney City and Balgowlah, H.M. Cowdroy Pty. Ltd. purchased new premises on 1.4 hectares at Smithfield to cater for both business and technological expansion. Throughout the most recent years H.M. Cowdroy have undergone many changes to ensure that market demands and consumer requirements are being adequately serviced. H.M. Cowdroy Pty. This warranty is limited to Cowdroy s option to repair, or the replacement, of any products proven to be faulty in manufacture or materials, with the same or equivalent product, free of charge. Labour charges, transportation and other costs associated with the replacement or reinstallation of the parts or product are excluded from this warranty and will not be paid for by Cowdroy s. H.M. Cowdroy Pty Ltd. assumes no liability under the warranty for the following:- *Misuse, abuse, accidental or intentional damage *Improper adjustment or operation by the installer or end user *Improper maintenance or installation *Inaccurate or incorrect site or operational specifications *Unauthorised repair or modification *Used contrary to Cowdroy recoendations *Use of replacement parts other than Cowdroy authorised parts *Corrosion related damages when used in a corrosive environment or corrosion caused by cleaning related agents *Whilst some of our product finishes are warranted against tarnish, they shall not be covered for deterioration caused by damage to the protective layer To the extent permitted by law, this warranty is the exclusive warranty granted by H.M. Delivery Charges (a)cowdroy operates a minimum order value (refer price lists) and orders equal to or above this value are delivered free into store (FIS) in metropolitan areas of Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide. Orders below this value will carry a surcharge for processing, delivery and invoicing. (b)deliveries outside the metropolitan areas are delivered carrying an additional freight and packaging cost to listed prices. (c) Special packaging cases or crates, if required, will carry an additional freight and packaging cost to listed prices. Return claims must be in writing within seven (7) days of receipt of delivery of goods. All returns must have prior authorisation and must be in good order and working condition. Freight costs must be borne by the customer and Tax Invoice or Delivery Docket numbers must be quoted at all times. Returns of special or cut to size orders will not be accepted. Extruded sections cut to size will be charged at a per half length rate, which includes a cutting charge. All prices shown in price lists are subject to change or alteration without notice. This adjustment may be actuated by either a screw or a nut. Generally, bottom sliding systems are screw adjustable and top sliding systems are nut adjustable. (Some roller assemblies are spring loaded and may be removed easily). The following steps will help in the removal and replacement of rollers. 1. Identify the adjustment mechanism (i.e. screws or nuts). Should there be no visible means of adjustment then it may be possible to lift and remove the window or door without altering it's position. Do it yourself sliding window and door repair. The Cowdroy range of replacement wheels, rollers and parts are ideal for those worn, stubborn or dysfunctional sliding windows and doors. Coon symptoms of malfunctioning sliding components include the following: *Excessive noise or grinding sound *Extensive wear and tear on tracks *Windows or doors do not slide freely *Windows or doors feel bumpy when sliding *Windows or doors are jambed In most cases these worn parts are simple to replace and maintain. The following guidelines may be of some assistance. It is generally recognised as good maintenance practice to replace components in sets (e.g. pairs of rollers or guides) in order to retain lifespan of replacement parts as well as to maximise sliding performance. Whether it be sliding flyscreen, patio, security or wardrobe doors, in the majority of instances the procedure of removing rollers is quite similar. 2. Loosen adjustment to allow door to lower. (In screw adjustment turn screw anti-clockwise to lower door. In nut adjustment loosen the nuts on the rear of the race assembly to lower door then re-tighten slightly once door has "dropped"). 3. With adjustment now loose you should be able to lift and manouvre the window/door off the track and guides. (See figure a.) In some instances, such as glass patio doors, the removal of a fixed panel may be necessary in order to remove the door. 4. Rollers can be removed from panels quite easily as most are either screwed, bolted, clipped or spring loaded. 5. Assess your track for damage and cleanliness. You may want to clean the track and, in some cases, your track may need a light sanding to ensure your rollers run as smooth as possible. 6. Replace rollers and re-install doors by reversal of the abovementioned procedures. 7. It may be necessary to adjust rollers in order to ensure correct operation of latching/locking mechanism if present. Should you not be confident with any aspect of the above procedures we recoend you consult a qualified window or door repairer. 2-09
