SVCC Corvette Gazette Page 3 FROM THE PRESIDENT S GAVEL By Nancy Kuchinsky I want to start this article with a big thank you to Frank and Jane Mahoney for planning and running the Fall Trip up to Trattoria 903 restaurant this past Sunday. And to all of the members who came along to enjoy the ride and the excellent food What a beautiful day to take a pleasant ride through the Pennsylvania countryside. And what an impressive view of all those lovely Corvettes. It truly was a great day to have those convertible tops down. I sincerely believe everyone had a great time. I want to thank each member of the club for coming out to the monthly meetings, working so very hard at the annual September Car Show. The show was a success and it was all because of the wonderful teamwork that all of our members exhibit. No one needed to be asked or told what to do. Everyone knew their jobs and did them well. Your work and help was greatly appreciated. And I would like to extend a special thank you to all of the members who came down to Roman Delight to relax and enjoy some time together after the show. I was truly touched and so appreciative. Everyone there seemed so relaxed, glad the show was a success and just wanted to relax, enjoy a good meal and laugh together. It was much appreciated. I want to thank Skip and Sue Riegel for all of their help. What an excellent Pick-A-Ticket auction we had with all of the items that they collected from the various businesses. They spent a lot of time going back & forth to some of them. Your help was much appreciated. And a special thanks to all of the members who made-up baskets, brought along gift cards, or donated any items to the Pick-A-Ticket. Job well done and what a success it truly was. This is my last From the President s Gavel article that I will be writing for our SVCC Corvette Gazette. I have enjoyed being President of the Corvette Club on 4 separate occasions and I was the club Secretary for several years but who is counting. I love the Corvette Club. Jim & I joined after we purchased our first Corvette, a 1995 Coupe from Scott Chevrolet. We read in the paper that the Schuylkill Valley Corvette Club was holding a Car Show over at Reiley & Sterner s garage that Sunday and Jim & I came over to find out about the club and we paid our dues and the rest is history. We have made so many friends while being members of this club. People we know and love that we probably would never have met if it weren t for our membership in this club. I am proud of this club. We currently have 104 members but we have all of the worker bees who make up this club and keep it running. They are there to give a helping hand where it is related to club functions or to help out a fellow member of our club in their private lives. I think that the friendships that have evolved through being members of this club are so very important and should not be taken lightly. With this said I am hoping that each member continues to belong to our Corvette Club and wish for many more successful years for the club and the annual Corvette Car Show. We have a great place to hold the car show. Everyone loves to come to Bubeck Park. I hope the club will " live long and prosper. Jim & I are going to continue being members of our Corvette Club for next year. Even when we are residents of Florida. We are planning a trip out to the Black Hills of South Dakota for the 47th Annual Corvette Gathering. I believe we have 3 couples so far who are interested in coming along. Yesterday I made group reservations for The Best Western Hotel in Sioux Falls, SD for Wednesday, July 18th, 2018 and their Hot Summer Nights. And at The Lodge Hotel & Casino in Deadwood, SD for Thursday, July 19th through to Saturday, July 21st leaving the hotel on Sunday, July 22nd, I will continue through the rest of the year and next year to give updates on our plans. I know that we are almost a year away from this event but I am hoping we will have several couples to come along on this trip. I am hoping to have points of interest or some neat restaurant to stop at each day along the way to break up the travel time. Jim & I are inviting all of the members of the club to come along. If you are interested in the trip and you have questions please come and talk with me or call me at our home. This will be our 4th time out to South Dakota and I must say that each trip has been memorable. Please continue to drive your beautiful, shiny Corvettes out over the countryside of our lovely state of Pennsylvania. Now is the time of the year to enjoy. Enjoy!

Page 4 Volume 1 Issue 9 The Corvette Zone All the News You Need to Know By Ed Hurst No Plant Tours GM announced that plant tours will be suspended for 18 months Corvette News The Corvette plant will reopen on November 6 th. GM invested almost 500 million dollars on a new paint room and retooling the line. The cars will be built in a new order process. The body panels will now be one of the last parts installed on the car. GM says this will cut down on possible damage Corvette Build Out GM shocked everybody when they announced that 2018 Corvette production will end on the week of January 22 nd This will make the 2018 model one of the shortest production runs in Corvette history. Unallocated sold orders will be cut off on October 27 th. Final orders for 2018 production will be November 16 th The new Sebring Orange will start on December 11 I don t think many 2018 s will be built in this color Corvette Production GM will start building 2019 Corvettes on January 29 th GM will release the 2019 order guide on November 20 th The first order allocations will be on November 30 th. GM hasn t said anything about why the early introduction of the 2019 model. I think it has something to do with the ZR-1. Corvette ZR-1 Well we know now that the ZR-1 will be a 2019 model. My guess is that GM will unveil it at the Detroit Auto Show in January. GM is getting brave with the test cars. Many have been sighted driving around with just the front and rear panel in cameo. The doors and other parts are not covered like in early test cars. Mid Engine Corvette How close is the mid engine Corvette? Look for this car to come out as a 2020 model. I think the mid engine will be called a C8. New spy photos show the much rumored mid engine C8 Corvette out in public for the first time. Not only were multiple C8s spotted in public, but it s almost as if the Corvette team members wanted the cars to be seen by going through a McDonald s drive-thru in Cadillac, MI. This is great news for Corvette enthusiasts. With the appearance of the car on public streets, Chevrolet must be moving to the point where the cars will be driven heavily to generate as much testing data for the development team. Like the ZR1 tests, expect to see the car in various locations around the country in the coming months. The shape of the C8 Corvette is what is expected from a mid-engine: A shorter front end and a very large windshield, the gradually sloping roofline leads to the rear deck which comprises the engine compartment and then a flat long deck to the rear. Quad exhaust ports can be seen as well. The cars do look complete in terms of their physical design and the testing should go on for about year. With this first public appearance, I think the mid-engine s timeline is starting to settle in based on the previous new Corvettes we ve watched come to market. They will test the car in cameo for a year and then the C8 Corvette will be unveiled in 2019 at NAIAS with production starting up later in the year as a 2020 model. Corvette Incentives If you re in the market for a new Corvette now is probably one of the best buying periods since the C7 Corvette was released in Chevrolet produced a whole lot of 2017 Corvettes and dealers took the additional vehicles knowing that their sales of Corvettes during the assembly plant s three-month shutdown for upgrades would come from this existing inventory. But after last month, it showed that dealers had sold just 1,506 Corvettes (and many of them being 2018 models). Chevrolet is now offering a couple of incentive programs to try to get those 2017 Corvettes moving quicker off of dealer lots. These two new incentives will run through the month of October and end on 10/31/2017. The first is a loyalty incentive targeting those that own or lease a 1999 or newer Chevrolet. We have seen previous loyalty incentives target just those that own a Corvette, so this is a big incentive for the automaker. Bring in a copy of your title, vehicle registration or lease contract and you ll be able to take an additional $3,000 off the purchase of a 2017 Corvette! The second incentive program targets regions that were impacted by both Hurricanes Harvey and Irma in Texas, Florida, and Louisiana. General Motors is offering a $500 Select Market Bonus Cash Program off the purchase of a 2017 or 2018 in-stock Corvette. To take advantage of the bonus cash program, you must reside in one of these regions: Texas: Austin, Beaumount, Harlingen, Houston, Lare-

SVCC Corvette Gazette Page 5 The Corvette Zone All the News You Need to Know (cont.) do, San Antonio, Victoria, and Waco. Florida: Ft. Myers, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, Panama City, Tallahassee, Tampa, and West Palm Beach. Louisiana Lake Charles These incentives are additional to the price meaning the pricing you see on a dealer s inventory most likely will not reflect the extra savings. So check with your dealer to see if you qualify for either of these new sales incentives. Message to Membership Since this is the last newsletter of the year I have a personal announcement. Starting January 2018 I will no longer be employed full time at Bruce s Auto Mall. Bruce has decided to retire. Bruce is going to still sell Corvettes on a part-time basis out of the showroom location across the street. I have to thank Bruce for taking a chance on me 43 years ago. In January 1974 I started working part time for Bruce at Jackson Motors. In September 1991 I went full time and in June 1994 we moved to Schuylkill Haven to sell just Corvettes. It s been a great run but all good things must come to an end. As for my future let s just say I will still be involved with Corvettes and will make an announcement in the first newsletter of Saturday, November 4th 10am to 1pm is the kickoff of our annual Pottsville Lions Club Food Drive at Jerry s car lot. Live radio, & refreshments Please bring a nonperishable item or two. Remember it s the Pedal on the Right. Floor It! Corvette Ed NOMINATIONS AND ELEC- TION OF OFFICERS WILL BE HELD AT THE NOVEMBER MEETING!

Page 6 Volume 1 Issue 9 OCEAN CITY FREE STATE CORVETTE SHOW WEEKEND Our trip to Ocean City, Maryland this year was great even considering the rain, wind and blustery conditions. Standing on our porches down at the Days Inn and watching the angry ocean waves rolling in was something else. I know that Linda Maskerines was up and out on her porch each morning watching and hoping to see the sunrise over the ocean. Unfortunately this year it was not to be. I joined Linda Friday through Sunday mornings and we waited, and we waited but there was nothing but cloud-cover. That was OK though because we were at the beach and that was good enough for us. We had 9 couples that came along and I believe everyone had a great time. As we have found out from years before it is not the weather that makes the trip, it is the group of people who come along that makes the trip fun and that s what really matters. We had delicious meals together. We met in the Maskerines suite and had a lot of fun each evening - the guys watching football or baseball games and chatting and the women and some of the men playing Left - Right - Center. Those quarters were going fast when you rolled a center. We had a lot of fun. Its hard to believe that the Fall trip to Ocean City, MD is now over and just a memory. There were more Corvettes in the Saturday Corvette Parade on the boardwalk this year than in previous years. The parade went on for 1 hour. Our question - where do they park all of these cars waiting for the parade to begin? I have asked Nancy Kraft to take over the planning and making the reservations for this trip for next year. Nancy has graciously accepted. So for 2018 please talk with Nancy if you are interested in coming along to the Free State Corvette Car Show. Next years dates will be Thursday, October 11th through Sunday, October 14th. I heard some of our members talking about the possibility of going into the boardwalk parade. Just a rumor - not a fact. So please consider coming along for the ride, the beautiful ocean view from our porches at the Days Inn and having some fun with your fellow Schuylkill Valley Corvette Club members. Its a great way to spend a Fall weekend at the beach! And the room rates are remaining the same for Nancy Kuchinsky Please be present at the November meeting as we present our bicycle donations to Ed Quirin from Toys for Tots. Thank you to all members for your donations toward making several children very happy on Christmas day.

Club Sponsors Newsletter Sponsor Did you know??? The original front emblem and horn button was designed to show a checkered flag crossed with an American flag. The design was changed when it was discovered that using an American flag on a commercial product is illegal. The American flag was changed to a flag showing the Chevrolet bow-tie emblem and a French fleur-de-lis symbol, reflective of the French etymology of the Chevrolet name.
