1 Service Bulletin Issued: 5 Oct 00 Models SR0 and SR ATA 5-10: Passenger and Crew Doors Door Latching Assembly Upgrade COMPLIANCE Optional: Accomplishment of this Service Bulletin is at the owner s option. This Service Bulletin was revised to correct manpower requirements. Operators who have successfully complied with the Revision 1 release of this Service Bulletin, dated 0 Nov 00, need take no further action. EFFECTIVITY Cirrus Design SR0 serial numbers 13 through 17. Cirrus Design SR serial numbers 0795, 080 through 115. APPROVAL FAA approval has been obtained on all technical data in this Service Bulletin that affects type design. PURPOSE This Service Bulletin provides for the upgrade of cabin door latching assembly parts. DESCRIPTION This Service Bulletin provides instructions to upgrade rotary latch, handle lever, and striker pin assemblies. WARRANTY INFORMATION Cirrus Design will cover parts and labor costs for this Service Bulletin if the work is accomplished within the standard airplane warranty period and the work is accomplished at an authorized Cirrus Design Service Center. The Warranty Claim Form must be properly filled out and submitted to Cirrus Design in order to obtain a warranty credit. MANPOWER REQUIREMENTS Latch and Handle Upgrade: 3.0 manhours. Striker Pin Upgrade: 1.0 manhour. Handle, Latch and Door Adjustment: 1.0 manhour. 4 SR0 Serials 13 thru 155, SR Serials 0795, 080 thru 1066: Order kit to obtain the following parts. 1 Screws Cirrus Design Service Bulletin Cirrus Design 1 ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS CAUTION: When removed, damage to screw threads securing door handle to door is common. Kit provides replacement screws. Although kits are optional, kit is recommended for any airplanes complying with kits that require removal of door handle (kit , , , , and/or ). A. Remove key from ignition. B. Set BAT 1, BAT, and AVIONICS switches to OFF positions. C. For kit , , , , , and/or : On LH door interior, remove screws securing LH door handle to door. Repeat on RH door. D. For kit , , , , and/or : On LH and RH door interior, remove screw securing handle lever to interior handle shaft. Remove handle levers. E. For kit , , and/or : Remove rotary latch assembly. (See Figure 01) 1. Remove door trim panel. Repeat on opposite side. (Refer to AMM 5-10) CAUTION: To facilitate proper fit-up of parts during re-installation of rotary latch assembly, keep upper and lower parts separate for LH and RH doors.. On LH lower door, remove nut, washers, rotary arm, and spacers securing actuator to rotary latch. Repeat on RH lower door. 3. On LH upper door, remove nut, washers, rotary arm, and spacers securing actuator to rotary latch. Repeat on RH upper door.. For kits and/or kit : Remove bolts and washers securing both rotary latches to LH door. Repeat on RH door. 5. For kit : Upgrade rotary latches. a. Replace existing LH rotary latches with rotary latches ( ) included in kit. Repeat on RH door with RH rotary latches (067-00). b. Discard existing rotary latches. 6. For kit : Upgrade cable attach brackets. (See Figure 05) a. SR Serials 0795, 080 thru 0890: Remove rivets. (1) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies. Description P/N or Spec. Supplier Purpose Drill bit inch (3.639 cm) #30 Any Source Remove rivets. of 13
5 Description P/N or Spec. Supplier Purpose Vacuum Cleaner - Any Source Clean rivet removal area. Compressed Air (Contaminate free) - Any Source Clean rivet removal area. Isopropyl Alcohol TT-I-735 Grade A or B Any Source Clean rivet removal area. Cotton Cloth (clean and lint free) - Any Source Clean rivet removal area. 5-Minute Epoxy 10 Devcon Danvers, MA Seal rivet hole. () Use #30 drill bit to drill out rivet securing cable attach bracket to door. Repeat on opposite door. Note: It is permissible to push rivet tail inside door structure. Rivet hole in composite must be open for sealing. (3) Using vacuum cleaner and compressed air, clean rivet removal area. () Solvent clean rivet removal area. (Refer to AMM 0-30) (5) Use epoxy to injection seal rivet holes. Allow epoxy to cure. (Refer to AMM 0-10) b. On LH door, loosen nuts securing upper and lower cables to cable attach brackets. Repeat on RH door. c. Remove and retain bushings from existing cable attach brackets. d. Replace existing LH upper cable attach bracket with cable attach bracket (09-003) included in kit. e. Replace existing RH upper cable attach bracket with cable attach bracket (09-00) included in kit. f. Replace existing LH lower cable attach bracket with cable attach bracket ( ) included in kit. g. Replace existing RH lower cable attach bracket with cable attach bracket (093-00) included in kit. h. Discard existing cable attach brackets. i. Insert bushings into upper and lower cable attach brackets for LH and RH door. j. On LH door, tighten nuts securing upper and lower cables to cable attach brackets. Repeat on RH door. 7. For kits and/or kit : Install bolts and washers securing both rotary latches to LH door. Torque to in-lb ( Nm). Repeat on RH door. 8. For kit : Upgrade lower rotary arms. a. Replace existing lower rotary arms with rotary arms (091-00) included in kit. b. Discard existing lower rotary arms. 5 of 13
6 9. Install actuator. (See Figure 0) a. Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies. Description P/N or Spec. Supplier Purpose Isopropyl Alcohol TT-I-735 Grade A or B Any Source Clean installation area. Cotton Cloth (clean and lint free) - Any Source Clean installation area. Small Brushes - Any Source Apply primer and Loctite. Primer 771 or 769 Henkel Loctite Corp. Rocky Hill, CT Prepare rotary arm mating surfaces. Loctite 6 Henkel Loctite Corp. Rocky Hill, CT Gap fill mating surfaces of rotary arm. b. Solvent clean inner square mating surfaces of rotary arm with isopropyl alcohol. (Refer to AMM 0-30) c. Use clean brush to apply primer on inner square mating surfaces of rotary arm. Allow to dry. (Refer to AMM 0-0) d. For kit , upgrade actuator. (1) For door, replace lower actuator with actuator (089-00) and upper actuator with actuator (090-00) included in kit. Repeat on opposite door. () Discard existing actuators. e. Position actuator to rotary latch with washers, spacer, and rotary arm. f. Use clean brush to apply Loctite on inner square mating surfaces of rotary arm. (Refer to AMM 0-0) g. Rock rotary arm until Loctite fills entire gap between rotary arm and actuator. h. Install upper washer and wipe excess Loctite from actuator threads with cloth. i. Secure rotary arm to actuator with nut, washers, and spacer. CAUTION: Rotary arm gap verification and alignment must be accomplished within a few minutes of applying Loctite while nut is secured and before Loctite sets. j. Verify gap between rotary arm and washer/spacer stackup is 0.01 to 0.03 inch (0.5 to 0.76 mm) and spacer rotates freely. If clearance is not within tolerance or spacer does not rotate, remove nut securing rotary arm to actuator before Loctite sets and contact Cirrus Design Customer Service for disposition. k. For upper rotary arm, perform alignment by locating rotary arm approximately centered between its limits of rotation on actuator. l. For lower rotary arm, perform alignment by placing latch into latched position. Apply light pressure to rotary arm until it is approximately 0.01 to 0.03 inch (0.5 to 0.76 mm) above actuation arm of push button. If clearance is below tolerance, gently press rotary arm in the opposite direction and re-apply light pressure until clearance tolerance is met. 10. On LH and RH doors, repeat actuator installation on upper and lower door. 6 of 13
7 11. Perform Adjustment - Handle and Latch Assembly. (Refer to AMM 5-10) 1. Install door trim panel. Repeat on opposite side. (Refer to AMM 5-10) F. For kit , , , , and/or : Install handle lever. (See Figure 01) 1. If complying with kit , upgrade handle lever. a. On LH door, secure LH handle lever (07-003) to interior lever shaft with screw. Repeat on RH door with RH handle lever (07-00). b. Discard existing handle levers.. If not complying with kit , on LH door, secure LH handle lever to interior handle shaft with screw. Repeat on RH door with RH handle lever. G. For kit , , , , , and/or : Install door handle. (See Figure 0) 1. If complying with kit , upgrade door handle fasteners. a. On LH door interior, secure LH door handle to door with screws ( ). Repeat on RH door with RH door handle. b. Discard existing screws.. If not complying with kit , on LH door interior, secure LH door handle to door with screws. Repeat on RH door with RH door handle. H. For kit , , and/or : Upgrade striker pins. (See Figure 03) 1. Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies. Description P/N or Spec. Supplier Purpose Isopropyl Alcohol TT-I-735 Any Source Grade A or B Clean installation area. Cotton Cloth (clean and lint free) - Any Source Clean installation area. Small Brushes - Any Source Apply primer and Loctite. Primer 771 or 769 Henkel Loctite Corp. Rocky Hill, CT Prepare striker pin threads. Loctite Henkel Loctite Corp. Rocky Hill, CT Thread lock striker pins.. Loosen edges of sidewall air duct and rear cabin side trim. Repeat on opposite side. (Refer to AMM 5-10) Note: To facilitate reinstallation, note orientation of adjustment bushing prior to removal. 3. On LH door opening at upper door jamb, remove bolt, washer, and adjustment bushings securing striker pin to upper door jamb. Repeat on RH door opening.. On LH door opening at lower door jamb, remove bolt, washers, and adjustment bushing securing striker pin to lower door jamb. Repeat on RH door opening. 5. For kit , upgrade striker pins. a. Replace existing striker pins with striker pins ( ) included in kit. 7 of 13
8 b. SR0 Serials 13 thru 17, SR Serials 0839 thru 115: Carefully remove spacers from existing striker pins. On striker pins included in kit for LH lower and upper door jambs, slide spacers over right angled post of striker pins and press grooved section of spacers onto base of striker pins. Repeat on striker pins for RH lower and upper door jambs. c. Discard existing striker pins. 6. For kit , install spacers. a. On striker pins for LH lower and upper door jambs, slide spacers ( ) over right angled post of striker pins and press grooved section of spacers onto base of striker pins. Repeat on striker pins for RH lower and upper door jambs. 7. For kit , upgrade adjustment bushings. Note: Ensure adjustment bushings (05-00) are positioned with the same offset orientation as previously installed adjustment bushings. a. Replace existing adjustment bushings with adjustment bushings (05-00) included in kit. b. Discard existing adjustment bushings. CAUTION: Verify installed striker pin angled ends are positioned facing door seal. 8. Solvent clean striker pin bolt threads with isopropyl alcohol. (Refer to AMM 0-30) 9. Use clean brush to apply primer on striker pin bolt threads. Allow to dry. (Refer to AMM 0-0) 10. Use clean brush to apply Loctite on striker pin bolt threads. (Refer to AMM 0-0) CAUTION: Verify bolt has threaded engagement on striker pin a minimum of five full turns. 11. On LH door opening at upper door jamb, secure striker pin to upper door jamb with bolt, washer, and adjustment bushings. Torque to in-lb ( Nm). Repeat on RH door opening. 1. On LH door opening at lower door jamb, secure striker pin to lower door jamb with bolt, washers, and adjustment bushing. Torque to in-lb ( Nm). Repeat on RH door opening. 13. Perform Adjustment - Cabin Door Striker Pin. (Refer to AMM 53-0) 1. Secure edges of sidewall air duct and rear cabin side trim to door jamb. Repeat on opposite side. I. Complete airplane records by noting compliance with in Aircraft Logbook. 8 of 13

10 to 0.03 inch (0.5 to 0.76 mm) to 0.03 inch (0.5 to 0.76 mm) 3 NOTE Verify gap between rotary arm and washer/spacer stack-up is 0.01 to 0.03 inch (0.5 to 0.76 mm) and spacer rotates freely. For lower rotary arm, perform alignment by placing latch into latched position. Apply light pressure to rotary arm until it is approximately 0.01 to 0.03 inch (0.5 to 0.76 mm) above actuation arm of push button. If clearance is below tolerance, gently press rotary arm in the opposite direction and re-apply light pressure until clearance tolerance is met. For upper rotary arm, perform alignment by locating rotary arm approximately centered between its limits of rotation on actuator.
