Privacy and Light Shading Our cellular shades give consumers two choices for privacy and light shading: light filtering fabrics that soften and filter the light, and room darkening fabric that blocks 99% of the sun s rays for complete privacy. The fabrics available are 3/8" and 9/16" single cell light filtering, 3/8" and 9/16" room darkening and 7/16" Double Cell. Tasteful Colors Elite Cellular Shade Collection comes in a variety of attractive colors, all with a neutral white back for a uniform exterior look. The palette of rich and tasteful colors complements any decor. Versatile Fabric Selection Design Options Today, many windows go beyond rectangles and squares. And not all window covering needs can be met by a standard cord-operated bottom-up shade. Energy Efficient Design Because of the patented cellular technology, our cellular shades are one of the most energy efficient window treatments available today. The cellular construction actually traps air, which acts as an insulator to help keep out summer heat and winter cold. 3/8" & 9 /16" Light Filtering Light Filtering fabric with a soft texture including Sheer, Silk and Crush, Woven and Woven Slub. The colors are timeless, ranging from neutral cream and white to muted gold and warm blue. 3/8" & 9 /16" Room Darkening A room darkening fabric that blocks 99% of the outside light and provides maximum protection from harmful UV rays, offered in a selection of neutrals and soft colors. 9/16" Fire Retardant Light filtering and room darkening is available in our most popular colors. 7/16" Double Cell Light Filtering Light Filtering fabric featuring double cellular construction. 3 Design Options Design Options such as special hardware and specialty shapes add value and versatility to the line. Several different types of applications are available. n Standard Rectangular. A cord-operated cellular shade that raises from the bottom up and stacks at the top. n Top-Down. A rectangular shade that opens from the top down instead of the bottom up. When completely open, the fabric stacks at the bottom of the window. n Top-Down/Bottom-Up. A top-down and standard rectangular shade combined for versatility of operation. Uses two sets of lift cords to open either from the bottom up or from the top down. n Night & Day. Uses two fabric panels, one between the headrail and center rail and one between the center rail and bottom rail. Enhances light control and privacy by allowing light filtering and room darkening fabric to be combined in one shade. Also available as cordless. n Two-On-One Headrail. Two standard rectangular shades sharing the same headrail; each shade operates independently. Also available as Three-On-One headrail, cordless only. n Continuous Cord Lift System. Use a continuous cord system for larger shades. n Standard & TDBU Cordless. No cords for child safety. Easy to operate with a simple push or pull on the bottom rail. n Arches and Circles. Includes stationary arches, quarter circles, and circles. n Angles. Shades where the top rail or bottom rail is sloped, or angled. May be operable or stationary. n Specialty Shapes. Includes hexagons, octagons, and trapezoids. May be operable or stationary. n Skylight. A rectangular shade that operates on any slope in any orientation, including skylights. Fabric Availability All Cellular fabrics are available in standard rectangular and in continuous cord system. With other applications, however, there may be restrictions on a particular fabric s usage. 25 Angles Angles fit sloped window openings up to 72" wide. Either the top or bottom of the opening may be sloped. Angles may be operable or stationary. If operable, the bottom rail cannot be raised fully to the top of the shade; at the bottom rail s maximum height, a triangular area at the top of the window opening will remain covered. 26 Specialty Shapes Specialty Shapes can be hexagons, octagons, or trapezoids. They can operate bottom up, top down, or they can be stationary. Inside-mounted octagons and hexagons can open only through the widest part of the shade, until the window casement begins to narrow. Trapezoids must open toward the longer rail. Top-down trapezoids must be spring-anchored, so mounting brackets are required for the bottom rail. See the illustrations at the lower right. 27 Skylight System Skylight System covers rectangular window openings up to 60" in width and height. The shade is operated manually, using a handle. The fabric can be specified to stack at the top, bottom, or either side. Skylight System will operate on any slope in any orientation. This makes it an excellent choice for skylight applications. An extension pole that extends up to 120" is available to operate shades in difficult to reach locations. Sloped or flat shades over 36" wide require a support cord to prevent the fabric from sagging. On shades over 42" wide, a rail stiffener is attached to the back of the moving rail to prevent bowing. The ends of the headrail, moving rail, and anchor rail are enclosed by side tracks. 28 Measuring Guidelines Accurate Measurements are essential. The measurements are used first to price the shade, and then to custom fabricate it to the specified size. The dimensions supplied on the order form must be correct for the shade to properly fit the window opening. Rectangular Shades Rectangular shades include: Standard Rectangular Top-Down Top-Down/Bottom-Up Two-On-One Headrail Continuous Cord System Measuring procedures are the same for each of these types of rectangular shades. Inside Mount or Outside Mount How you take your measurements will vary depending upon whether the shade fits within the window opening (inside mount or IB) or overlaps the window opening (outside mount or OB). "Rounding" Your Measurements Dimensions on the order form should be accurate to within 1/8". With inside mounts, always round down to the nearest 1/8". Rounding up could result in a shade that is too wide to fit within the window opening. Measuring for Inside Mounts Measure the width inside the window opening at the top, middle, and bottom. Measure the height inside the window opening at the left, right, and center. Order the narrowest width measurement and the shortest height measurement. Remember to always round your measurements down to the nearest 1/8". Be sure the window opening is deep enough to install the mounting bracket. Refer to the Application and Specification reference pages or see the section on Installation Hardware on page CS 34. Measuring for Outside Mounts Measure the desired width and height. To minimize light leakage, it s recommended that the shade overlap the window opening at least 2" on each side and at the bottom. When measuring the height, take into account the requirements for mounting bracket attachment. Again, those requirements are shown on the Application and Specification reference pages CS 21 through CS 33, as well as the section on Installation Hardware on page CS 34. CS 28

29 Measuring Guidelines Continued Arches and Circles Included in this category are arch, circle, and quarter circle. Similar rules for measuring rectangular shades apply to arches and circles, as well. For inside mounts, measure the exact width and height inside the window opening. For outside mounts, measure the desired width and height. Always measure the height at its tallest point. With perfect arches and circles, the height will either equal the width (circle and quarter circle) or equal one half the width (arch). With imperfect arches, these simple height/width relationships do not occur. Specialty Shapes With specialty shapes, one or more sides of the shade are angled. Specialty shapes include hexagons, octagons, and trapezoids. The procedures for measuring hexagons and octagons are similar to those for rectangular shades. Simply measure the window height and width appropriately for an inside or outside mount. Be sure to measure the width at the shade s widest point. When measuring for trapezoids, measure the window height, the top and bottom widths, and the length of the sloped side(s). Then measure what the width reduction of the shorter rail will be on each side. The maximum reduction is 9" per side. In the diagrams below, "H" is the vertical height, "TW" and "BW" are the top and bottom widths, "LS" and "RS" are the lengths of the left and right sloped sides, and "LR" and "RR" are the left and right width reductions of the shorter rail. Record all measurements on your template. Use the widest width measurement when pricing the shade. Angles With angles, either the top or bottom of the shade is sloped, or angled. All four sides must be measured to ensure accurate fabrication. Measure the inside of the window opening for inside mounts. When measuring for outside mounts, remember to add the desired amount of overlap. In the diagram below, the vertical measurements are labeled "LH" for left height and "RH" for right height. The horizontal measurements are labeled "S" for slope and "W" for width. The "slope angle" is the angle between the slope and a horizontal line. The angle is measured in degrees using a protractor. Record all measurements on the template you create for the shade. Use the tallest height measurement when pricing the shade. CS 29

30 Measuring Guidelines Continued Standard Skylight System The procedures for measuring window openings for Skylight Shades are identical to those for standard rectangular. For inside mounts, measure the width and height at three locations inside the window opening, (see illustration at right). Order the narrowest width and the shortest height. For outside mounts, measure the desired height and width, allowing for an appropriate amount of overlap. However, the inside mounting depth requirements for Skylights are different than standard rectangular, because of the side rails which are used with the shade. Those depth requirements are shown in the chart below. Shades Requiring Templates Templates are required for all shades having angles or specialty shapes, such as hexagons, octagons, trapezoids. Arches, whether perfect or imperfect, also require templates. For multiple shade orders, a template must be included for each shade ordered. Guidelines for preparing templates are shown below. Five Steps to an Accurate Template 1. Tape butcher paper or heavy wrapping paper over the window opening, allowing plenty of overlap. Do not use paper that has ever been folded; a template can have no folds or creases. 2. Draw an exact outline of the window opening. Do this by carefully tracing over the inside edge of the window frame. 3. Remove the paper from the window opening. If the shade is an outside mount, add the desired amount of overlap to the window outline and draw a second outline around it to match the shape of the finished shade. 4. Mark the shade dimensions on the template. Check that the template dimensions match your measurements of the actual window opening. 5. Identify the template and its orientation. Write the customer s name on the template, and mark the ROOM SIDE and TOP. Roll up the template and place it in a mailing tube to include with the order. Do not fold the template. CS 30

31 Installation Hardware The Only mounting bracket for standard rectangular shades is the Standard Installation Bracket. The standard installation bracket can be used with either inside or outside mounted shades. Standard Installation Bracket 3/8" (spring loaded) Double Bracket 9/16" (spring loaded) Spacer Blocks or Extension Brackets can be used to allow a shade to clear obstructions, such as a window crank or handle. Each spacer block adds 1/2" of clearance, and a maximum of three per bracket can be used. (Spacer blocks cannot be used with Standard Continuous Cord System shades.) Extension brackets add up to 3" of clearance. If a third bracket is included, center it between the outer brackets. Wide shades may include up to 8 brackets. In these cases, space the additional brackets evenly, not more than 25" apart. Mark the brackets for mounting hole locations, making sure they are square and equally spaced. For outside mount installations, use a level to check for levelness. Step 4: Shade Installation Hang the shade so that the front groove of the headrail is inserted into the front ridge of the bracket. Rotate the shade back toward the glass so that the headrail snaps into place. Make sure that the shade is locked in place. Operating Instructions: To lower the shade: Pull the cord down and towards the center of the shade to unlock the cord. Then, slowly release the cord until the shade reaches the desired location. Move the cord past the outer edge of the shade and let go to lock the cord. To raise the shade: Pull the cord straight down until the shade reaches the desired location. 38 Care And Cleaning Durability is a Hallmark of Cellular Shades. The strong, anti-static fabrics repel dust and dirt, and they require little cleaning and maintenance. Regular dusting with a feather duster is all that s necessary in most circumstances. For a more thorough cleaning, the fabric can be lightly vacuumed with a brush attachment. Sponge or Spot Cleaning When needed, Cellular fabrics can be cleaned by gently blotting with a soft, damp cloth or sponge, using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Be careful not to apply too much pressure to the fabric. Excessive pressure could cause "pilling" the formation of small balls of fabric. Take special care when cleaning opaque or "room darkening" fabrics to avoid creasing and pilling. Ultrasonic Cleaning Professional ultrasonic cleaning is generally a very safe and effective method for comprehensively cleaning a Cellular Shade. However, the shade should be handled carefully and only mild cleansing solutions should be used. In addition, the fabric should be in a stacked or closed position when being removed from the tank so that water cannot become trapped in the honeycombs. Important Cautions: Do not ultrasonically clean Room Darkening fabrics. Do not ultrasonically clean Continuous Cord System. Basin or Bathtub Cleaning To clean the entire shade, immerse the assembly in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and move it around lightly with your fingers. Wash for about five minutes, then rinse with clean water. Close the shade before removing it from the rinse water. Holding the rails, tilt the shade to allow excess water to escape. Re-install the damp shade back into the window opening and lower the shade all the way to allow it to dry completely. Important Cautions: Do not immerse Room Darkening fabrics. Do not immerse Continuous Cord System. Regular dusting with a feather duster will be the only care and cleaning necessary in most circumstances. CS 38
