3 Spectator Information Please remember Trials are not really spectator events. Many hills are unsuitable for public access and only those listed below are available for public viewing. If visiting a spectator hill please remember to park responsibly, respect the landowner s property and follow any instructions given by a Marshal. This event primarily uses OS map 149, plus small sections of maps 162 and 150. Please note Lambing is in progress, therefore no dogs will be allowed on any hill venues. Please be aware that most hill sections are near or on farmland containing sheep. We would rather you make alternative arrangements than risk putting our relationship with landowners in jeopardy. Saturday 17 March Hills open at 1200hrs and close at 1730hrs. Please ensure you stay within the specific areas marked out for Spectators Please DO NOT walk on the competitive sections Please keep all dogs on a lead Please ensure children are ALWAYS accompanied by an adult who is responsible for their behaviour Please ensure you dress appropriately for all weather conditions Please take your litter home with you Marshals are there to help you and ensure the event runs safely please follow their instructions Motorsport can be dangerous. Despite the organisers taking all reasonable precautions unavoidable accidents can happen. In respect of these you are present at your own risk

7 This Time Last Year VSCC the herefordshire trial 2018 Last year s Herefordshire Trial saw 100 Competitors take part in the weekend event, with eight Competitors achieving the highest possible mark of 395! Trophy Winners were as follows: The Herefordshire Trophy David Golightly 1927 Ford Model T The Moffatt Mug David Golightly 1927 Ford Model T The Andrew Blakeney-Edwards Trophy Paul Jeavons 1924 Ford Phaeton 35 A Tourer Photo: Peter McFadyen Photo: Don Stringer Photo: Phil Jones Photo: Don Stringer HOW TO BACK DOWN A TRIALS SECTION SAFELY Following a number of incidents involving competing cars reversing off hills at VSCC Trials the Safety Sub-Committee and Trials Sub-Committee were asked to consider guidance that could be offered to Competitors in the form of the best practice to follow. It is not possible to allow for every scenario, but the following is the recommended process to adopt under normal circumstances: 1. When the car stops put the handbrake on 2. Passengers get out and stand in a safe place (unless instructed otherwise) 3. Pause for a moment to calm down 4. Listen to the marshals instructions. 5. Check the front wheels are facing straight ahead 6. Switch off the engine, engage reverse gear, release the brake 7. Use the compression of the engine to allow a steady descent 8. If you can t turn round use your mirrors 9. Use your passenger to help by giving directions 10. Take your time be safe! The two committees are reviewing other safety related issues for Trials and will report back with findings and further recommendations on car preparation, driver and marshal training,use of paramedics, managing spectators etc - as appropriate in the coming months. 7
