5 PINEWOOD DERBY GENERAL CAR RULES: All cars must be built from the official GPH kit only. Other kits are not allowed. Each car must be newly built for this year s derby. Cars entered in previous years cannot be used. Contestants may build one car to enter both categories-racing and design. Or, a separate car can be built for each category. A separate car may also be entered in the unlimited class. All cars must fit on and roll down the track without interfering with another car. The entire car must stage behind the starting pin. Weights and accessories may be added to the car, but are included for all measurements. They must be securely fastened to the car, and fixed in place. Weights and accessories may not actively contribute to the movement of the car. The car must be powered by gravity alone. RACING CLASSES: Ranger Kids (K, 1 & 2) Discovery (3, 4 & 5) Adventure (6, 7 & 8) Expedition (9-12) Commander/Leaders Unlimited CAR SPECIFICATIONS: Maximum height: 3 inches Maximum weight: 5.5 ounces Minimum under car clearance: 3/8 inches Minimum distance between wheels: 1 ¾ inch Maximum length: 7 ½ inches Maximum width: 2 ¾ inches Washers, sleeves, bearings, and bushings, etc. on wheels or axles are prohibited. Wheelbase may be lengthened or shortened as desired, as long as all car specs are met. WHEELS AND AXLES: 1. Wheels may be lightly sanded and rounded, but must retain the original shape (diameter, width, and profile.) 2. Axle flaws may be removed and the axle shaft may be polished. No other modifications are allowed. 3. GPH kit axles only, no substitutes. 4. All four wheels must be present on the car, but not all wheels need to contact track surface. 5. Wheels are the only allowable moving part on the car. LUBRICATION: Any lubricant may be used, but it must be dry at the time of inspection. All excess lubrication must be removed before inspection.

6 CHECK-IN AND INSPECTION: 1. Cars must pass the official inspection using the official scale and measurement devices. 2. If a car fails the inspection, it may be corrected and re-inspected. 3. After a car passes inspection, it will be impounded; then the car cannot be modified or lubricated. 4. Each entrant must register his own car(s). RACING: 1. If a car leaves its lane, and the race officials determine that a fault in the track or starting mechanism caused the incident, the heat will be re-run after the fault is repaired. 2. If a wheel falls off during a race, the car may be repaired. The repair must be completed timely, so as to not delay racing. The repair will be monitored by a race official. 3. Any appeals or rule questions must be promptly brought to the attention of the race officials. Race officials will use Biblical principles to make all decisions. UNLIMITED CLASS: (OPTIONAL) Use all your ingenuity and imagination. All of the previously mentioned rules apply with the following exceptions: 1. Maximum weight: 32 ounces 2. Maximum length: 12 inches 3. Wheels can be shaved, or drilled to lighten them. All the G.P.H. kit parts must be used for their intended purpose. MOUSE TRAP CAR GENERAL CAR RULES: Mouse trap car can only be run by a victor type woodened mouse trap No other energy source may be added (co2, rubber bands, batteries, strings, etc. ) Standard mouse trap must be mounted to chassis of car (DO NOT PAINT TRAP) No alterations of the spring is allowed All wheels must touch the track surface at all times JUDGING Timed course of set distance Fastest car to travel a set distance will be awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd respectively Three age groups: years old and younger years old and over years old and over (including leaders)
