6 Changes in the Automotive Industry Snapshot across the major markets show varying level both of profitability and channel development Higher volumes of cars remarketed, operators are exploring new channels - OEMs are pushing remarketed cars to dealers, who often believe these to be unprofitable - Rental companies are doing more direct remarketing, exploring new channels - Some OEMs are trying to be more involved in the remarketing directly to private customers Used car remarketing is growing in terms of size and competition - Progressive growth of used car remarketing (now over 35% of all UCs sales up to 4 years) - Dealers and independent retailers both involved in cars from short and long rental - Auctions still not popular in Italy In Germany remarketed cars are a key ingredient of the used market - Strong focus on used cars up to 4 years - Independent players operating internationally have a dominant role and offer ex-leasing cars via their own outlets and platforms - Strong role of (online) auctions and they are expected to evolve further Used car market is very strong due to the large impact of the fleet business - Used car sales strongly affected by new car market demand, and vice versa - High penetration of PCPs and significant fleet sales drive short ownership cycles - Important role of auctions as source for retail Source: ICDP Slide 6
