I had to build my brand and develop systems by trial and error and made a lot of mistakes along the way. A commitment to customer service and excellence saw his business grow at a rapid rate with more customers than one person could manage, leading Jim to commence franchising in By offering secure territories and generous work guarantees, Jim was able to attract and keep quality franchisees. The key factors to this growth are based on looking after clients and strong franchisee support from Franchisors. Jim s core belief is that the people who pay us are customers. Franchisees are the customer of the Franchisor and the franchisor s key goal is to see their franchisees happy and successful. Our new Franchisees have it easier. The brand is established and our systems have been tested and improved by feedback from more than 3,500 Franchisees who have come before you. You will be taught how to market your business effectively. We are confident that this will help make your business a success. The information contained in this brochure will assist you to make the right decision. Please read it carefully and ask your Franchisor to explain anything that is unclear.
3 About Jim s Insulation Services The story so far Jim s Group started as a part-time gardening business while Jim Penman completed his PhD in history. It went full time in 1982 and was franchised in Currently, there are 3,500 plus Franchisees in four countries and growing every year. There are no company owned businesses and all work is done by Franchisees. Franchisor rights are also privately held and all Divisions, except Mowing, are partnerships with individuals experienced in those industries. Jims Insulation Services began as 4 Seasons Home Insulation when it was purchased in December 1993 by the Kestle family and started trading immediately. It grew from a business operating from the home office, two installers, and a salesperson, a truck and a manufacturing plant that is still in operation today. After 23 years in the industry it was franchised in 2016 at a time of seeing the growth double in the previous months. A Jim s Insulation Services Franchisee has the ability to enjoy being self-employed with the benefit of an extended support network providing ongoing business and technical advice. As Regional Franchisor Jade Trembath will oversee every aspect of the business from marketing, training and day-today franchisee support and overall development of their Regions.
4 Franchising and Us Franchising is one of the fastest growing business sectors in Australia and is a unique way of doing business built on mutual trust. A Franchisee can enjoy the benefits for being in a business for themselves whilst reaping the benefits associated with a well-known and successful brand. If you were to start your own business (not franchise), statistics tell us that 77% of new businesses FAIL in the first 5 years, whereas 92% of franchised business SUCCEED. Like anything in life, franchising does not offer guarantee of success. What it does offer is a formula that is not available to those who go into business alone. Buying a franchise means you are not starting out by yourself. The Federal Government, following its commitment to the growth and prosperity of the franchising sector updated the Franchising Code of Conduct in The Franchising Code of Conduct is a mandatory code, which assist both franchisees and franchisor in making an informed decision prior to entering into a franchise agreement. It also provides a standard framework for operation within the franchising industry. So not only can you have the confidence that you re entering into a system protected by the Federal Governments Franchising Code of Conduct, you also have the knowledge that as a Jim s Insulation Services Franchisee you have direct access to support and backup systems, shared industry knowledge and advice from people who have been in the Insulation industry for many years. 6 We Partner with other Jims Divisions Within Jims Divisions we all work together to improve sales. Jim s Insulation Services provide and receive business from these divisions: - Jims Skip Bins, Rubbish removal from building sites or domestic homes when insulating. - Jims Building and Maintenance, for plastering/ Gyprocking when coring is done for wall insulation. Installing Attic ladders/ manholes. - Jims Asbestos Removal, completed prior to the insulation being installed. - Jims Roofing- to work in conjunction with, when installing on large areas of flat roof. - Jims Termite and pest control- after a house inspection/quote and prior to installing insulation (both underfloor and ceiling insulation
7 The protection of the health and safety of all employees is vital to the success of all organisations. Training After the in-house Jims Franchisee training, you will be given 2-5 days Jims Insulation Services specific training at our Somersby premises. This includes both office based and on the job training.

9 Territories Each new Franchisee is nominated a territory. The owner of a territory has the right of first refusal of all new leads arising in their territory. No other Franchisee may market in your territory. Leads Incoming calls on the National phone number are directed to the local Call Centre. The staff enter the client s details into the computer and the Jim s Franchise Management System (FMS) allocates the lead to the appropriate Franchisee or the call can be transferred directly at the time of the enquiry. If the client has called before, first preference is given to the Franchisee that has previously serviced the client. If it is a new client, the computer allocates the lead to the Franchisee that owns that territory. If no territory holder exists, or the territory holder is not taking new leads, the computer allocates leads on a rotational basis to other Franchisees that have nominated themselves as available to accept leads from that area. The client is advised that the Franchisee will contact them within two hours and the lead is sent via SMS to the Franchisee s mobile phone. 10 Pay for Work Guarantee (PFWG) PFWG is available to assist you in the development stage of your business. It provides a guarantee of a minimum income. A guarantee of work availability may sound attractive but it is not unconditional. You may have to help another Franchisee who needs extra labour or you could be manning a Shopping Centre or Exhibition stand or you may be working on your marketing. It is important that a prospective Franchisee judge his or her own capacity to develop and grow their business. The Pay for Work Guarantee will assist you in the development stage of your business. What fees are involved? Jim s Franchisees are not charged a fee as a percentage of income. A set franchise and advertising fee is paid to your Franchisor monthly. Leads generated by the Call Centre are charged to the Franchisee each month as a once off fee per lead. Franchising is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Australian economy.
11 Advantages of the Franchise System There are countless benefits to becoming a Franchisee, which is why Franchising is one of the fastest-growing sectors of the Australian economy. Here is a short list of 18 advantages of Franchising over stand-alone forms of small business: The Franchisor provides detailed training. The Franchisee has the incentive of owning their own business with the additional benefit of continuing assistance from the Franchisor. The Franchisee benefits from operating under the name and reputation (brand image) of the Franchisor, which is already well established in the mind and eye of the public. The Franchisee will usually need less capital than they would if they were setting up a business independently because the Franchisor, through their pilot operations and buying power, will have eliminated unnecessary expense. The Franchisor provides the advice and/or help in identifying suitable trading locations or operating territories for the Franchisee. The Franchisor helps the Franchisee obtain occupation rights to the trading location, comply with planning (zoning) laws, prepare plans for layouts, shop fitting and refurbishment, and provide general assistance in calculating the correct level and mix of stock for the opening launch of the business. The Franchisor trains the Franchisee (and very often, the Franchisee s staff as well) in all areas of the business such as; manufacture, preparation, accounting, business controls, marketing, promotion and merchandising. The Franchisor may negotiate better rates of finance, or more favourable conditions, for Franchisees with financial institutions. The Franchisee receives the benefit on a national scale (if appropriate) of the Franchisors advertising and promotional activities at a lower cost than if they were to attempt such marketing themselves. The Franchisee taps into the bulk purchasing power and negotiating capacity made available by the Franchisor by reason of the size of the franchised network. The Franchisee can call on the specialised and highly-skilled knowledge and experience of the Franchisor s head office organisation, while remaining self-employed in their business. The support and benefits provided by a Franchise system greatly reduce a Franchisee s business risks. The Franchisee has the services of the field operational staff of the Franchisor who are there to assist with any problems which may arise from time to time in the course of business. The Franchisee has access to use of the Franchisor s patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and any secret processes or formulae. The Franchisee has the benefit of the Franchisor s continuous research and development programs, which are designed to improve the business and keep it up-to-date and competitive. The Franchisor provides a knowledge base developed from their own experience, as well as that of all the Franchisees in the system, which would otherwise be impossible for a nonfranchised business to access. Defined territories of operation within the Franchise can help protect the Franchisee from competition. A Franchisee can always speak to their Franchisor or a fellow Franchisee to discuss their business challenges or problems - something a non-franchised business can almost never do.
