OVERVIEW The 5405 dipole electromagnet is a fit, form and function upgrade for the 5403 electromagnet system. This upgrade provides approximately 40% more field for a given pole gap. The 5405 is shipped with a standard set of poles that optimize maximum field but several pole options are available. GMW can also design custom poles that achieve a specific performance. Poles are interchangeable and are available with an axial access bore. FEATURES Intermediate weight at 155kg Peak continuous fields up to 3 T for 15mm pole face diameter at 8mm gap Any mounting orientation Fast cycle times APPLICATIONS EPR FMR MOKE Specification: 6 October
MODEL 5405 GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS Dimensions Weight (excluding hoses and water) Standard Pole Face Diameters 600mm W x 322mm D x 355mm H (23.62 inch w x inch D x inch H) 155 kg (342 pounds) 10mm, 38mm and 76mm Coils (series connected) Resistance (20 C) 0.98 Max. Resistance (70 C) 1.20 Max. continuous current 70 A Peak Current (sinusoid) 100 A Peak Current (triangle wave) 120 A Max. continuous Power 6.0 kw Max Instantaneous Power 18.0 kw Inductance 250 mh Water Cooling (supply psi) 4 Litre/min 3 db frequency point 10 Hz Primary Over Temperature Interlock 70 C Secondary Temperature Circuit* Custom * The secondary temperature circuit is mounted on the coils in the same location as the primary circuit. While the primary circuit protects the coils from thermal damage, the secondary circuit can be used to provide early identification of above normal operating temperature. This may provide a yellow alert indicating that the system is within acceptable operating parameters but that some maintenance may be required. Specification: 6 October
Figure 1: Comparison of performance between 5403 and 5405 for standard poles. The data reflects the performance of both magnets operating at peak continuous current with coils at maximum spacing. Specification: 6 October

Overbar Option The 5405 includes the option of an overbar configuration. In this configuration, the magnet provides slightly increased field and greatly increased field uniformity in the working region. Note the Ø40mm bore in the overbar. This facilitates the integration of the magnet with a 1½ cryostat. Specification: 6 October
Vertical Mounting Bracket Specification: 6 October
45 Mounting Bracket Specification: 6 October
90 Mounting Bracket Specification: 6 October
Flow Meter Option It is often important to be able to identify variations from normal operating procedure. One method for achieving this is to include a flow meter in the return water line. This can present a yellow alert that indicates the system is still operating within acceptable parameters but the system requires attention. This is critical for continuous duty applications. Specification: 6 October
