Warranty Restrictions 075 The following items shall be included on the warranty (as described on the previous page) provided that the PTO slip clutch assembly that is delivered with each model is used on that machine.. PTO Shaft Assembly. Driveline Gearbox. Gearbox If any of these items are to be submitted for warranty claim, the clutch assembly must be verified or returned with the defective item. Electrically Operated Valves If the sprayer is equipped with this control method, the valves and the control panel are only covered by the original manufacturer s warranty, whatever that may be. PTO Slip Clutch Assembly The PTO slip clutch assembly is an integral part of the Windmill Spraymaster. Its specific purpose is to protect the tractor and the rest of the machine from abnormal use or misuse by the operator. It is expected that the clutch assembly mentioned above will be subject to normal wear during the life of the machine. For this reason it is designed to be rebuilt and reused several times (many users never have to rebuild this assembly). The assembly is a sophisticated unit, and as such, the rebuilding of it must be done in a timely and proper manner. All of the parts must be assembled correctly and the rebuilt unit properly run-in before using. Constant Velocity Assembly The constant velocity assembly is also very sophisticated. Lubrication is VERY critical. Please refer to the Adjustments and Maintenance section for instructions. Contact your dealer for specific information and assistance if you find a need to rebuild or replace these units. Thank you for your cooperation.

Safety 075 Failure to heed these warnings may result in personal injury or death. Before operating this machinery, read the owner s manual carefully. Use eye, ear and head protection to protect the operator from any flying debris and noise Use a backboard made of plywood or similar material behind the tractor seat for added driver protection. Because of the wide variety of tractors used with the Windmill Spraymaster, it is the purchaser s responsibility to insure that a backboard is constructed and installed on each tractor being used to run the sprayer. All personnel except tractor driver should be 00 feet clear of machinery before starting or operating it. Never use drugs or alcohol before or while operating your mower/shredder. Be aware that driving a tractor for an extended period of time can result in fatigue or boredom and may cause the operator to lose awareness of what he/she is doing. It is recommended that scheduled work breaks be taken to avoid this. Keep hands and loose clothing away from any power driven parts. Avoid contact with hot surfaces including pumps, motors, hydraulic oil tanks and hose connections. Do not operate this machine without all guards being in good condition and firmly in place. Do not operate this machine on a tractor that is not properly maintained. If a tractor control failure should occur while operating this machine, immediately shut down the tractor and perform repairs before continuing. Stay clear of fan belt drive area when fan is rotating. Do not touch electrodes when power is on.

Safety (cont.) 075 Stop the operation of this machine when people or vehicle driver s vision becomes obscured, caused by the discharge of materials and dust. Also avoid operating this machinery in unusually foggy conditions or at night. Never leave the sprayer unattended while it is running. Keep away from rotating elements to prevent entanglement. Use flashing warning lights when operating on highways, except when prohibited by law. Be aware that the sprayer may be wider than the tractor, and caution should be used to avoid clipping or running over trees, signs or posts that may be in the way of the sprayer. Never allow children or other persons to ride on the sprayer. Drive at a speed you can safely operate the tractor and sprayer. Normal ground speed ranges from 0-5 miles per hour. Use slow driving speeds when operating on or near slopes, ditches, drop-offs, or when debris and foreign objects are to be avoided. Use the following guidelines to reduce the risk of equipment and grass fires: -Do not smoke or have an open flame near the tractor or sprayer. -Do not drive into burning areas or areas that have been freshly burned. -Insure slip clutches are properly adjusted to prevent excessive slipping. -DO NOT allow clippings or debris to collect near drivelines, slip clutches and gearboxes. Check the sprayer periodically and clear out any clippings and collected debris. Do not turn so sharp that the driveline produces a severe knocking. This will cause accelerated wear and eventually the destruction of drive train components. 5

Chemical Safety 075 Pesticides are potentially dangerous when not used properly. Sprayer operators should be thoroughly familiar with both chemicals and equipment before spraying. Wear protective clothing and equipment such as goggles, a respirator, gloves, hat, boots and long pants during mixing and application of pesticides. Do not smoke or eat while handling chemicals. Always store and dispose of chemicals and containers properly. Triple rinse empty containers and dispose of them in accordance with pesticide label instructions. Make sure that operators and chemical handlers have the telephone number of poison control centers and that they know which chemical is being applied. Know the signs and symptoms of pesticide poisoning and what to do in the event that it should occur. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling pesticides and before eating. Avoid wearing soft contact lenses when dealing with pesticides. Soft contact lenses may absorb vapors from the air and hold them against your eyes. Maintenance Safety Maintain all safety decals and make sure they are visible to the operator. Disengage PTO and shut off engine allowing all movement to stop before leaving the operator s position to adjust, lubricate, clean or unclog the machine. Be sure to inspect all safety devices (including safety shields, guards, deflectors, etc.) before each use. Safety Device Examples 6

Sprayer Information 075 General Information Pump: The pump is an ACE high volume (0 GPM) single stage centrifugal pump with a Viton seal for extra long life. Since only a small percentage of the high volume of water is necessary to supply the nozzles, the remainder of the water supplies the hydraulic agitation manifold at the bottom of the tank. Agitation System Ace High Volume Pump Note: Never run the pump without water in the tank. The seal will be destroyed and cannot be honored under warranty. Tank: The tank of your gallon Windmill Sprayer is made of chemical resistant stainless steel to give you years of clean, rust-free service. The fan is a precision welded and balanced turbine capable of creating wind speeds up to 0 mph. PTO Driveline: The PTO driveline is a Walterscheid constant velocity U-joint type driveline made for tighter turns under full power and is equipped with a friction slip clutch to prevent damage to the sprayer components. Gearbox: The gearbox is a heavy duty Bondioli and Pavasi 0HP right angle drive with tapered roller bearings. Note: Be sure to use the proper oil in these units. Check Adjustments and Maintenance section for more detailed information. Sprayheads: The Windmill Spraymaster is available with electrostatic and non-electrostatic sprayheads for orchards, vineyards and row crops. If equipped with electrostatic sprayheads, follow electrostatic connection procedures as outlined in this Owner s Manual. 7

Sprayer Information 075 Electrostatic Spraying Information Vrisimo Equipment Company is the exclusive importer and distributor of this electrostatic spraying system. The system is manufactured in London and Ontario, Canada under license of the Canadian Government. Description: The system is comprised of:. Two, four or six electrostatic heads: Each head is equipped with three to eight carbon petal electrodes on the inside and a.5-foot electrical cable permanently attached to it. Each cable is terminated with a brass plug and a sliding nylon connector for sealing into the power supply. These nylon connectors are normally packed separately. Spray Head Inside View Carbon Petal Electrodes. Electric power supply converter: In the form of a small, white rectangular box with an extended base with two mounting holes. This box should be mounted on the sprayer frame in a horizontal position within the reach of the high voltage cables from the spray heads. At one end of the power supply box are four round sockets for connection to the spray head cables. On delivery, the sockets will be closed with plastic plugs. As many as are required should be removed and the nylon high voltage connectors carefully threaded into the sockets to hand tightness. Using the proper size wrench, tighten another quarter turn. Do not over-tighten these nuts as cracking and failure can result. The high voltage cables are inserted through the nylon connector and pushed in as far as possible to insure proper connection. The red insulation on the high voltage cable should extend into the connector body. Remove the cable from the connector and install the nut, the neoprene washer, the conical spacer and the small o-ring onto the cable, sliding them on far enough to allow complete insertion of the cable into the connector body. Slide the o-ring and washers up against the body then tighten the nut onto the connector body hand tight. Do not over-tighten. Any unused high voltage connections on the power supply must be closed with the nylon plugs to prevent the entry of dirt and moisture. The other end of the power supply box has a -prong electric coupler for connection to the socket terminal of the yellow -wire cable which leads to the switch box. 8

Sprayer Information 075 Electrostatic Spraying Information (continued). Plastic Switch Box: With cable connections to the converter and to the -Volt battery of the tractor. A pilot light (green) indicates when power is on. Another light (red) indicates low voltage to the spray heads, possibly caused by dirty or wet heads. The box has a -prong, -wire disconnect for the cable leading to the battery. The box can be mounted using the two studs on the side of the box in any convenient position on the tractor within the limits of the reach of the cables. Switch Box Pilot Light Indicating Power Pilot Light Indicating Short. Electrical Cable: Must be properly connected to insure operation of the unit. The black (+) wire must be connected to the (+) terminal of the battery and the white wire (-) to the (-) terminal or to any convenient -volt circuit of the tractor. The (+) wire of the switch box has an in-line / amp fuse. To Switch Box Cable / Amp Fuse To (-) Terminal To (+) Terminal Note: For owners of tractors that have the positive terminal of the battery connected to the chassis of the tractor, connect the black wire (red markings) to the positive terminal and the white wire (green markings) to the negative terminal of the battery. Do not connect the white wire to the frame or chassis of the tractor. 5. Grounding Chain: The use of a grounding chain weighing at least pounds per foot, bolted to the sprayer frame so that it will drag and extend to the ground for at least a foot is recommended. 9

Sprayer Information 075 Electrostatic Spraying Information (continued) How it Works:. The three to eight high voltage electrodes inside each head become energized with DC high voltage (less than that of a spark plug of an automobile).. The droplets which form at the nozzles will draw a charge of opposite polarity from the ground (through the chain).. The electrified droplets are attracted by the leaves and branches of the tree by electrostatic forces, giving a better coverage over all surfaces and on both sides of the leaves. Precautions:. Connect the cables to the battery or to the fused side of a convenient -volt circuit of the tractor making sure that (+) is connected to (+) and (-) to (-).. Follow the proper sequence of operations outlined in the manual for both starting and stopping the electric systems.. Do not touch the electrodes when the power is on. Notes:. Should one need to carry out spraying operations during a light rain, the electrostatic system, which is protected by the / ampere fuse, will not incur damage if the electric power is left on. As the surface becomes dry again, the electrostatic charging of the droplets will be automatically restored to the full design power.. No harm will be done to the power supply if, by mistake, the (+) black wire is connected to the (-) terminal of the battery. The power supply will simply not build up the high voltage and the electrostatic charging will not function.. Should the red high voltage cable to the heads be cut, consult the dealer for repair instructions.. Should it be necessary to replace the brass plug on the end of a high voltage cable, one must never twist the metallic plug. It must be cut and a new one soldered in place. By heating the plug, it will slide on the cable end. Twisting the wire inside of the HV cable could lead to wire breakage. 0

Basic Operation 075 Attaching to Tractor. Set tractor drawbar in the extended position to accommodate the driveline.. Attach sprayer drawbar to tractor drawbar, rotating to whichever position best allows the sprayer to run in a level position. If level sprayer position cannot be achieved by drawbar position, it may be necessary to raise or lower sprayer by adjusting the axles.. Mount the control manifold support bracket in a convenient position near the operator s station. Attach a control manifold to support bracket and adjust pressure gauge so it can be reached conveniently by the operator. Be sure the control valves are in the OFF position.. Install PTO driveline with friction clutch end toward sprayer. Be sure the tractor drawbar is in the extended position, keeping the pivot point approximately inches to the rear of the tractor PTO output shaft. 5. Pull back on the spring loaded lock collars to release lock balls and slip clutch end over the splined shaft of the driveline. Install opposite end on tractor PTO output shaft. Be sure lock balls seat properly. Attach PTO guard chain to sprayer drawbar to prevent guard form spinning. Attach PTO Shaft (friction clutch end) Attach Tractor Drawbar to Sprayer Drawbar

Basic Operation 075 Operating Instructions Before running your windmill Spraymaster, follow these simple steps.. Check gearbox oil level.. Check installation of PTO shaft.. Check fan and pump belt tension. Be sure not to over-tighten the pump belt.. Check in-line filter. 5. Check tire pressure. Maintain at 5 PSI. 6. Check for any possible leaks. Follow these guidelines for operating your Windmill Spraymaster.. Fill tank approximately / full with clean water.. Open pump supply valve all the way. Open agitation valve and basket supply valve to approximately 50%. Never operate the sprayer/pump without water. To do so will destroy the pump seal and is not covered by warranty. Basket Supply Valve Agitator Supply Valve. Start sprayer and bring up to PTO speed. Do not engage PTO at high engine speeds.. Check to be sure water is agitating properly through manifold and mixing basket. 5. Add chemicals into mixing basket allowing time for the chemicals to dissolve and wash down into the tank. 6. After all chemicals have been added, turn off the basket supply valve and top off the tank with water.

Basic Operation 075 Operation Instructions for Electrostatic Spraying System To operate your Windmill Spraymaster with the Electrostatic Spray Heads, use the following sequence.. Make sure that everything is clean and dry. This includes the electrodes, all electrical connections and the high voltage power supply. In particular, check that the high voltage cables are wellseated in their sockets and that the sealing nut is tight. When nut is tightened properly, the O- Ring and neoprene washer on the high voltage cable are compressed, preventing the cable from coming loose. High voltage grease may be used when inserting the cables into the high voltage box to help prevent the entry of moisture into the connections. Check High Voltage Cables. Start the fan by engaging the PTO output shaft. Only engage at a low RPM, preferably idle speed. Engaging the PTO at higher engine speeds could cause damage to the driveline and to the sprayer.. Turn on the switch to the electric power supply. The pilot light will come on indicating that the circuit is energized. Switch Box Pilot Light Indicating Power Pilot Light Indicating Short. Turn on the water valve(s) for the desired spray.

Adjustments and Maintenance 075 Calibration To calibrate your Windmill Spraymaster, simply use the following formula (adding in the proper units), and set either or both metering valves accordingly. These figures are based on PSI pressure gauge reading: 0. x Speed (in MPH) x Row Spacing (in feet) x Gallons/Acre = Gallons/Hr Note: 88 ft./min. = mile/hour Example: You run the sprayer at.5 miles per hour, your row spacing is feet and you use 5 gallons per acre. Inputting these numbers in the equation we get the following: Lubrication. x.5 x x 5 = 65 gallons per hour Daily Lubrication: A. Check oil in gearbox. Maintain at level using an AGMA 6 or 7 EP oil only. B. Grease PTO shaft every 8 hours, paying particular attention to the CV assembly grease fitting. C. Check belt tension, especially for the fan. Check Belt Tension Daily Every 00 Hours: A. Grease drive shaft U-Joint at the gearbox. B. Grease fan bearings. C. Grease front drive shaft bearing. Annual: A. Change gearbox oil. B. Disassemble, clean and repack wheel bearings. Recommendations:. Use Multi-Grade 85/0 rated as AGMA 6 or 7 EP lubricant for gearbox oil. Change oil after first 0-0 hours of operation and annually after that.. Use lithium base grease for all lubrication points.

Adjustments and Maintenance 075 Cleaning Your Sprayer When using your sprayer, keep one thing in mind: Take care of your sprayer and it will take care of you.. Immediately after spraying, flush out the tank with clean water.. After rinsing out the tank, run clean water through the system to flush out all plumbing, manifolds and nozzles. It is always important to keep material buildup off the fan impeller as this may cause vibration and can possibly damage your sprayer.. When needed, clean the insides of the spray heads with soap and water to remove any buildup of carbon that is caused by the diesel smoke from your tractor. You should be able to see the black electrostatic pads on the inside of the spray head. If you can t, the heads need to be cleaned. Clean Spray Head Dirty Spray Head The carbon buildup around the electrodes may cause the electrostatic system to short out.. After cleaning your sprayer, store it with the lid, drain it out and open all valves to minimize condensation inside the tank and plumbing manifolds. This is also to reduce the risk of breakage of the plumbing and pump due to freezing conditions. 5. Always keep the exterior of your sprayer as clean as possible for better appearance. 5

Adjustments and Maintenance 075 Connecting Voltage Cable of Spray Head to Power Supply Converter. Remove only the disposable nylon plugs which protect the chosen sockets in the converter. This means leave the other nylon plugs in place. There are four terminals protected by plugs so that the power supply can feed four spray heads at the same time.. Remove the plastic nuts covering the terminals you will be using and remove the brown plugs. Be careful not to drop the conical spacer (plastic washer) and the black neoprene washer. The O-Ring should stay in place on the terminal. O-Ring Neoprene Washer Conical Spacer Plastic Nut. Strip part of the high voltage cable so that a portion of the wire is showing. Slide the plastic nut onto the wire. Then slide the neoprene washer and the conical spacer onto the wire.. With the nut and spacers in place, press the wire into the power supply terminal until the wire bottoms out. 5. Slide the nut and spacers down onto the terminal and tighten the nut. You will find that letting the assembly sit for 0 minutes will allow time for the conical spacer to cold flow into the cable insulation and the cable will not slide in and out of the assembly. 6

Adjustments and Maintenance 075 Electrostatic Wiring Diagram This diagram accurately represents the wiring setup for the electrostatic spraying system for the Windmill Spraymaster. Helpful Hints. When mounting the system, the switch box should be mounted where the operator can easily access it, preferably on the tractor near the operator s seat.. The electrostatic wiring system is designed so that the switch box and wires can stay mounted to the tractor and the power supply box and wires can stay mounted onto the sprayer so every time you hook up the sprayer, simply plug in the correct connectors, and when you are ready to disconnect, simply disconnect the connectors and everything can stay mounted for ease of attachment next time you use your sprayer. 7

Troubleshooting 075. Switch is in On position, but the green pilot light does not light. A. Disconnect connector at the high voltage power supply and check to see if voltage ( volts DC) appears at this connector with the switch in the On position. If volts are present, then either the pilot lamp is burned out or there is a bad contact in the lamp socket. Try wiggling the lamp in the socket. If it lights at all (even for a split second) then there is a bad contact. Either way, replacing the bulb is probably the best option. Check Here for Voltage B. If no voltage appears at the connector to the high voltage power supply, then check to make sure the wires are properly connected to the battery and the tractor. If voltage is still not present at the connector, there are two possible causes: ) The connector between the battery wire and switch box should be checked. To improve contact, the prongs can be carefully pried apart with a thin knife or screwdriver blade. Reconnection should result in a good contact. ) The switch contacts have failed. Turn the switch on and off a few times, noting whether the pilot light flashes even briefly. If a faulty switch is indicated, it must be replaced. Check Here 8

Troubleshooting 075. Switch is placed in the On position, the pilot light comes on, but no high voltage comes from the high voltage supply. A. Check the polarity of the connections at the battery. The fused link (black wire) must be connected to the (+) terminal and the white wire to the (-) terminal, unless the positive battery terminal is connected to the tractor chassis. Then consult the Adjustments and Maintenance section for modifications. B. The connector between the switch box and the high voltage power supply should be checked. This is the long yellow wire that comes out of the switch box and connects directly into the power supply box. Check Here Check wires going into the box from the high voltage power supply. Repair any damages found to internal connections.. Switch is placed in the On position, the pilot light comes on but so does the red warning light. A. Check the spray heads to see if they are clean and dry in the vicinity of the petal electrodes. B. Check for possible carbon buildup on the spray heads caused by low exhaust discharge from the tractor. 9
