Belt Remove & Install Belt The tractor must be on a hard, level surface before the belt is removed.
1. Raise the front of the tractor approximately 200 mm (8 in) with tooling (C), and position tooling (A) under the front of the tractor. Lower the tractor on tooling (A). 2. Raise the rear of the tractor approximately 200 mm (8 in) with tooling (D), and position tooling (B) under the rear of the tractor. Lower the tractor on tooling (B). 3. Slowly, and carefully, loosen fitting (2) on each tension cylinder to vent any pressure trapped in belt tensioner cylinder (1) before completely disconnecting the hose fitting from the belt tensioner cylinder. Disconnect fitting (2) from each belt tensioner cylinder (1). 4. Connect tooling (E) to two tensioner cylinders (1) and to the No. 1 Raise implement quick disconnect coupler at the rear of the machine. If the tractor is not operable, an alternate hydraulic source must be used. Slip hoses (3) over the fittings in the tensioner cylinders to direct the overflow oil down and away when pressurizing the tensioner cylinders.
Do not exceed a maximum pressure of 11,000 kpa (1,600 psi) when pressurizing the belt tensioner cylinder. When pressurizing the belt tensioner cylinders, extend the cylinders only far enough to install lock assemblies (4). 5. Start the engine. Using the implement control lever that corresponds to the implement line coupler, slowly pressurize and extend both tensioner cylinders. 6. Position lock assemblies (4) over each cylinder rod and secure with the bolts provided. 7. Use the implement control lever to slowly vent the hydraulic pressure from the belt tensioner cylinders. 8. Remove the core from valve (6) to deflate air spring (7). Remove valve (6) from air spring (7). 9. Support the bogie suspension and remove four nuts (5). Lower the bogie suspension, and remove air spring (7) from between the arm assemblies. 10. Lift the bogie suspension, and install tooling (G) as shown to support the bogie suspension while the belt is removed. 11. Remove six bolts (8) from each of outer rollers (9) and remove the four rollers.
12. Remove two of the ten bolts (10) and install tooling (H). Remove remaining eight bolts (10). 13. Using tooling (J), remove outboard idler wheel (11). The weight of the idler wheel is 91 kg (200 lb). 14. Remove two of the eighteen bolts (12) and install tooling (F). Remove remaining sixteen bolts (12). 15. Using tooling (J), remove outboard drive wheel (13). The weight of the drive wheel is 129 kg (285 lb.).
16. Install two bolts (10) to secure the inboard idler wheel during the belt removal. 17. Install two bolts (12) to secure the inboard drive wheel during the belt removal. 18. Using tooling (J), remove the belt. The weight of the belt is 450 kg (990 lb). NOTE: If both belts are to be removed, repeat Steps 8 through 18 on the opposite side of the tractor. NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the belt. 19. Apply 5P3975 Rubber Lubricant on the inboard drive and idler wheels. 20. Using tooling (J), position the belt on the inboard drive and idler wheels. Be careful while handling the belt not to gouge or crush the carcass, because doing so may damage the internal chords. 21. Install tooling (F). Remove two bolts (12) that were used to hold the inboard drive wheel in place during the belt removal. 22. Install tooling (H). Remove two bolts (10) that were used to hold the inboard idler wheel in place during the belt removal. 23. Using tooling (J), position the outboard drive wheel on the machine and install sixteen bolts (12). 24. Remove tooling (F) and install remaining two bolts (12). Tighten eighteen bolts (12) to a torque of 750 ± 80 N m (550 ± 60 lb ft). 25. Using tooling (J), position the outboard idler wheel on the machine and install eight bolts (10). Remove tooling (F) and install remaining two bolts (10).
NOTE: The torque required to tighten the ten idler bolts is 1125 ± 100 N m (820 ± 75 lb ft). This may exceed the range of readily available torque wrenches. Therefore it is acceptable to use the following torque turn method: Tighten ten bolts (10) in the sequence shown to a torque of 540 N m (400 lb ft). Then tighten the bolts in the same sequence an additional Tighten ten bolts (10) to a torque of 1125 ± 100 N m (820 ± 75 lb ft) or use the previously described torque turn method. 27. Position each of outer rollers (9) on the roller axle assemblies and install six bolts (8). 28. Lift the bogie suspension, and remove tooling (G). 29. Lower the bogie suspension, and install air spring (7) between the arm assemblies. 30. Lift the bogie suspension, and install four nuts (5) that hold the air spring in place. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 55 ± 7 N m (41 ± 5 lb ft).
NOTE: If both belts were removed, repeat Steps 19 through 30 on the opposite side of the tractor. Do not exceed a maximum pressure of 11,000 kpa (1,600 psi) when pressurizing the belt tensioner cylinders. 31. Use tooling (E) and the implement hydraulics to slowly pressurize tensioner cylinders (1). 32. Remove the bolt and lock assembly (4) located on each tensioner cylinder. Slowly, vent the hydraulic pressure from the belt tensioner cylinders allowing them to retract and tension the belt. 33. Remove tooling (E), and correct fittings (2) to tensioner cylinders (1). 34. Raise the rear of the tractor, and remove tooling (B). Lower the tractor. 35. Raise the front of the tractor, and remove tooling (A). Lower the tractor. 36. Apply 5P3413 Pipe Sealant on the threads of valve (6), and install the valve in air spring (7). 37. Install the core in valve (6), and inflate air spring (7) to a pressure of 427 ± 34 kpa (62 ± 5 psi). NOTE: If both belts were removed, repeat Steps 36 and 37 on the opposite side of the tractor. 38. Check belt tension and adjust if necessary. See the topic, Procedure To Measure And Adjust Belt Tension, located in the Challenger 65 Ag Tractor Undercarriage, Steering And Brakes Testing And Adjusting Module, Form SENR4242.
