Transmission-Hydraulic System Oil Level and Oil Filter Element NOTE: Before checking oil level find out if customer has changed filter element (first 50 hours service). Loader Backhoe Return Oil Filter Element NOTE: Before changing filter element find out if customer has changed element (first 50 hours service). If changed at an earlier date, record information below: Approximate hours at change If not, change as follows: Fig. 46-Transmission-Hydraulic System Filter Remove the transmission-hydraulic system oil filter cover and pull out rubber packing and filter element. Install new packing in groove in transmission case. Be sure packing is fully seated. Install new filter element and the filter cover. Tighten the filter cover cap screw to 55 Ib-ft (7.6 kg/m). Do not overtighten. After changing the filter element for the backhoe loader (item 3), check the transmission-hydraulic oil level. Fig. 47-Loader Backhoe Return Oil Filter Remove the hydraulic return filter cover and pull out rubber packing and filter element. Install new packing in groove in transmission case. Be sure packing is fully seated. Install new filter element and the cover. Tighten the filter cover cap screw to 55 Ib-ft (7.6 kg/m). Do not overtighten. Check transmission-hydraulic oil level. Before disconnecting lines, be sure to relieve all pressure. Before applying pressure to the system, be sure all connections are tight and that all lines and hoses are not damaged. Fluid escaping from a very small hole can be almost invisible. Use a piece of cardboard or wood, rather than hands to search for suspected leaks. If injured by escaping fluid, see a doctor at once. (12.19 mm) Test length at 2.84 ± 0.30 lb. force in. (12.6 ± 0.1 N mm) 1-Punch 2-lnlet Valve 3-0utlet Valve Seat Fig. 17-Remove Inlet Valves NOTE: Cutaway section of a pump housing is shown. IMPORTANT: If inlet valves are removed, new valves must be installed because the press fit is criti, cal for sealing. 28. To remove the inlet valves (2, Fig. 17), put a punch (1) through the outlet valve seat (3) and against center of valve face. Visually inspect outlet valve seats (2) for peening or breakage. IMPORTANT: If outlet valve seats are removed, new seats must be installed because the press fit is critical for sealing. Remove seats (2, Fig. 19) using the JOH-39B-1 Installer and Removal Tool (1) from the JOH-39B Hydraulic Pump Seat Installing Tool Set. Put the special cap screw through piston bore opening and install into tool. A-Outlet Valve 8-Spring C-Guide D-Stop T85461, Fig. 18-lnspect Outlet Valve Assemblies 29. Inspect guides (C, Fig. 18) and stops (0) for wear or damage. 30. Inspect outlet valves (A) for scratched or broken wear patterns. If these patterns are found, replace valve and seat in pump housing. 31. Inspect springs (B) for wear or damage. Group 5 FRONT END ASSEMBL V The swept-back front axle mounts on the front end support. Swept-back axles give a shorter turning radius for sharper turns in close quarters. A FRONT END SUPPORT REMOVAL CAUTION: Remove battery ground strap.. for safety. Remove loader (see Group 10 of this section). Remove front ballast (if used). Fig. 1-Removing Grille Screens Pullout on top edge of each grille screen. Lift screen to clear pins in front end support. Disconnect springs (Fig. 1) and remove screens.
