Do not permit anyone to stand between tractor and Verticutter, especially while attaching to tractor. Use care when approaching blind corners, shrubs, trees or other objects that may obscure vision. Dust, smoke, fog, etc. can reduce vision and cause an accident. Mow only in daylight or good artificial light. Avoid slippery surfaces. Always be sure of your footing. DO NOT mow on wet grass. Reduced traction could cause sliding and effect the machine s stability. Do not turn tractor too tight; Verticutter may ride up on the wheels causing injury or damage. Watch for traffic when operating near or crossing roadways. Never carry passengers. Never direct discharge towards persons or property that may be injured or damaged by thrown objects. ALWAYS disengage PTO, stop unit and engine, remove key, engage parking brake and allow moving parts to stop before leaving operator s position. Disengage the tractor s PTO before raising mowing units for transport. Never engage PTO while raising mowing units or when mowing units are in raised position. Raising mowing units " (1 mm) or higher with PTO engaged will result in damage. Keep PTO shielding in place and in good condition. Do not operate with shields missing. ALWAYS block up or securely support Verticutter before working underneath. Hydraulic system failure can cause mowing units to fall and cause serious injury or death. DO NOT operate at too fast a rate. Slow down before turning. DO NOT operate in reverse unless absolutely necessary. ALWAYS look down and behind before and while backing. Stop and inspect equipment if you strike an object or if there is an unusual vibration. Repair, if necessary, before restarting. Never make adjustments or repairs with the engine running. Verticutter reels are sharp and can cut you. Use extra caution when servicing them. Rotation of one reel may cause rotation of the other reel. Take all possible precautions when leaving unit unattended. Shut off tractor engine and remove key to prevent unauthorized use. Know the weight of loads. Limit loads to those you can safely control and the unit can safely handle. Disengage PTO when Verticutter is not in use. ALWAYS disengage Verticutter when travelling, crossing driveways, etc. Mow up and down slopes, not across them. DO NOT operate on slopes of more than 1 degrees. Use of a Rollover Protection System (ROPS) on the tractor is recommended for slope operation. Always wear a seat belt when operating tow unit with a Rollover Protection System (ROPS). GB

Keep all movements on the slope slow and gradual. Do not make sudden changes in speed or direction. Avoid starting or stopping on the slope. If tires lose traction, disengage the reels and proceed slowly straight down the slope. If you cannot back up a slope or you feel uneasy on it, do not mow it. DO NOT park on slopes unless necessary. When parking on slope always chock or block wheels. Always set parking brake. Use a slow speed. Tires may lose traction on slopes even though the brakes are functioning properly. Do not bypass transmission when on a slope. Tow only with a tractor that has a hitch designed for towing. Do not attach towed equipment except at the hitch point. Follow the manufacturer s recommendations for weight limits for towed equipment and towing on slopes. Tractor counterweights may be required for optimal steering control. Refer to tractor s operating manual. NEVER allow children or others in or on towed equipment. On slopes, the weight of the towed equipment may cause loss of control. Travel slowly and allow extra distance to stop. Use extra care when loading or unloading unit onto trailer or truck. Secure unit chassis to transport vehicle. NEVER secure from rods or linkages that could be damaged. Transport Verticutter with transport chain in place. Block the Verticutter units securely to take the load off to the lift chains and lift mechanism. Do not exceed 0 MPH ( KMH) transport speed. Keep unit free of debris. Clean up oil spills. ALWAYS block wheels and know all jack stands are strong and secure and will hold weight of unit during maintenance. Release pressure slowly from components with stored energy. NEVER attempt to make any adjustments to unit while it is running. Stop tractor engine and remove key and wait for all moving parts to stop before servicing or cleaning. Check tractor parking brake operation frequently. Adjust and service as required. ALWAYS maintain unit in safe operating condition. Maintain or replace safety and instruction labels, as necessary. Check all hardware at regular intervals. Keep properly tightened. Check moving components frequently. If worn or damaged, replace with manufacturer s recommended parts. GB

OPERATION GENERAL SAFETY Only qualified people familiar with this Owner/Operator Manual and the tractor operator s manual should operate this Verticutter. Operator should wear hard hat, safety glasses and safety shoes. The operator should read, understand and practice all safety messages shown on the caution, warning and danger decals affixed to the Verticutter to avoid serious injury or death. It is recommended that tractors be equipped with Rollover Protective System (ROPS) and a seat belt must be used. Before beginning operation, clear work area of any objects that may be picked up and thrown, and check for ditches, stumps, holes or other obstacles that could upset tractor or damage Verticutter. Always lower Verticutter to ground and allow reels to come to a complete stop, set parking brake, and turn off the tractor s engine before leaving the tractor operator s seat. ATTACHMENT Leveling the Frame Tongue Adjustment The clevis hitch may be rotated and mounted in six different positions for leveling the frame. See Figure. Tractor Hook-Up 1. Position the tractor close to the hitch. Use the Verticutter tongue jack to raise or lower the tongue to level the Verticutter s frame.. Adjust Verticutter hitch height to match tractor drawbar height. Keep frame level with tractor and Verticutter on level ground. Place a -ft. (1. m) carpenter s level across the square frame segments front to rear and adjust hitch height to level the frame.. Attach Verticutter with a /" (19 mm) hitch pin and secure with a lock pin. IMPORTANT: Always use a hitch pin that contains a safety locking device to prevent it from falling out.. Lower the tongue jack until the weight of the Verticutter is fully removed from the jack, then remove the jack. Place the jack in the storage base located on the mainframe weldment. See Figure. 1" ( mm) Figure " (1 mm) -/" (0 mm) " ( mm) " (10 -/" (11. Attach the safety chain on the frame hitch to the tractor. Adjust the chain length to remove all slack except what is necessary to permit turning of the Verticutter. Lock the hook securely on the chain.. Attach the driveline to the tractor. The end with the constant velocity joint connects to the tractor s PTO shaft. Attach the other end to the splined input shaft on the center of the Verticutter frame. See Figure. Verticutter Jack Holder Figure Tractor PTO Shaft NOTE: The use of a drawbar hung between the -point hitch arms is not recommended. A straight drawbar attached to the rear-axle housing in the standard SAE position to the PTO is preferable. Constant Velocity Joint Figure GB 9

. Move the driveline back and forth to ensure that it is securely attached on the PTO shaft of the tractor and input shaft on the Verticutter.. Secure the driveline chain around the Verticutter frame to prevent the outer shield of the driveline from rotating. IMPORTANT: A chain is supplied with each driveline. This chain must be attached to the shield cone of each driveline and to an anchor ring on the Verticutter hitch. 9. Route the hydraulic hoses through the hose support and connect to tractor remote fittings. Shortening Driveline If the driveline requires shortening: 1. Position driveline half shafts in the shortest working position and mark.. Shorten inner and outer guard tubes equally.. Shorten inner and outer sliding shafts equally at the same length as the guard tubes.. Proper overlap is a minimum of one half of the length of each tube, with both tubes of equal length.. Round off all sharp edges and remove burrs. Apply grease to sliding shafts. Hydraulic Hose Connection 1. Route supply and return hydraulic hoses through hose guides on Verticutter unit. Ensure that hoses do not make contact with driveline and tractor drawbar.. Insert the hydraulic hose quick-disconnect fittings into the female quick-disconnect fittings on the tractor. Ensure that supply and return hoses from the Verticutter are mated to the supply and return hoses on the tractor. NOTE: Verticutter quick-disconnect fittings are SM Type 00 QC. If tractor is not fitted with quick-disconnect fittings an adaptor kit must be used. MOWING 1. Disconnect transport chain from between two rear lift arms.. Place the tractor hydraulic control in the lowering position and lower the mowing units to the ground. IMPORTANT: Avoid damage to hydraulic components. Do not attempt to lower Verticutter units with transport chain or lock pin in place.. Engage tractor PTO at low speed to avoid shock to Verticutter powertrain. CAUTION: Do not engage the PTO with mowing units in the raised transport position. Do not raise the mowing units with the PTO engaged. Make sure that the PTO is disengaged and the reels have stopped rotating before raising the mowing units.. Select appropriate tractor gear range (maximum -1/ mph or. km/h at rated PTO speed).. Accelerate to maximum PTO speed of 00 0 rpm. To raise the Verticutter units place the tractor hydraulic control in the lift position. Return the control to the neutral position once the Verticutter units have raised fully against the stops. GB 10

MAINTENANCE DRIVE BELTS Check condition of drive belts frequently. Replace damaged or overstretched belts. TIRES Tires should be checked regularly for damage, especially on units which are frequently transported on highways or rough roads. Regularly check tires for proper inflation. For inflation pressures see SPECIFICATIONS on page 1. CAUTION: Avoid injury! Explosive separation of tire and rim parts is possible when they are serviced incorrectly: Do not attempt to mount a tire without the proper equipment and experience to perform the job. Do not inflate the tires above the recommended pressure. Do not weld or heat a wheel and tire assembly. Heat can cause an increase in air pressure resulting in an explosion. Welding can structurally weaken or deform the wheel. Do not stand in front or over the tire assembly when inflating. Use a clip-on chuck and extension hose long enough to allow you to stand to one side. ANNUAL INSPECTION To ensure efficient operation and long life of your Verticutter, the following checks and maintenance should be carried out before storing the equipment at the end of the mowing season: 1. Perform all services outlined in the section on periodic maintenance.. Check jackshaft coupling to ensure that keys are in place and bolts are fully tightened..
