11 Success Story: Neptec Using QNX since 1991, first products deployed in early 1990s Mission-critical space vision systems, including these QNX-based products: LCS camera for inspecting exterior of space shuttle to ensure it is safe and intact; Space Vision System (SVS) which helped astronauts to assemble the International Space Station and to guide the Canadarm in previous shuttle missions.

Most important QNX features to Neptec: Reliable microkernel architecture and proven ability to handle the extreme conditions found in space, where there is no room for error. Microkernel architecture allows only those components that are needed to be installed, ensuring the OS has a small footprint and uses the least amount of resources required.

13 Success Story: Neptec (cont d) Microkernel operating system architecture made it easier for Neptecto detect and eliminate programming errors. For instance, the LCS camera system for the Space Shuttle was completed in just 14 months, on time, and without complications. For THE LCS system, QNX professional services developed a custom BSP, allowing Neptecto focus on application development. The development and technical support provided by QNX was critical to the success of the LCS system.
